13 points needed max from 19 games

We’ve got 14 points from our last 10 games and 24 points from our last 20. And we are improving. I think we will finish on around 58 points which will be around 12-14 points clear of the bottom 3.

And around nine points off of six place. That makes me more happier.

If/when we stay up it will be classed as a good season

We've signed next to no one but the effort being put in is better then anything we've seen in a very long time

great effort recently. I predict a 10th spot. it will be a typical season where we have more downs than ups. We will start winning a few on the trot and by the Easter busy time we will be around six points off of the top six. Alas like many times before we will settle out and fall short of the top six positions by around nine points at the end of the season. This will give us hope for season 22/23.

Fulham are the best team I've ever seen at this level.

were we not once as well. OK many years ago but once we were one of the best if not the best in the second tier league of English football.

Alas another minimum two seasons yet in front of us before we can claim that again.

I'd say it's pretty tedious. He knows exactly what's behind the question - just decides to play the smart a**e.

He forgets he's really talking to the fans. Plays the man (the journalist) rather than the ball (the supporters, who just like a bit of info).

I reckon NP is very candid. He has a fantastic technique in answering difficult questions. His answers all though some times a bit slow are positive and professional. Unlike previous managers before him.

  5. All the best to the travelling 1,687 travelling City fans today. I hope your day is enjoyable, great fun, have a few pints, keep an eye on the young ones around you, look after yourselves, sing as loud as you can, keep safe and most importantly enjoy what I hope will be a City win.

Fulham 2 - City 3. Martin netting two and the other coming from Massengo.

It’s important to note that I’m sure there’ll be games in the next five where we’re not competitive. But the consistency is on the up. It won’t just click and all go into place at the same time, we’ll regress occasionally but we have to be patient - which sadly isn’t something we’re particularly good at on otib.

Not any of us have much patience on OTIB and in fact most of us get annoyed and frustrated. However the team played well against Fulham who are a top class team in this division. We also showed some commitment above and beyond where we were a few months back. I feel the tide is turning a bit and the team under Nige is starting to gell more and commit. We now have a team all though not where we would like it to be will hopefully see a mid table position at the end of this season.

Can we bat all day tomorrow? It looks like the weather will help if nothing else.

Billingswatch has been great fun on TMS though!

Thunderstorms in steak and kidney tonight. Should dry up though by brekkie tomorrow morning.

I think this could be the chance for the forgotten and not quite so forgotten men.

Reckon Palmer, DaSilva, Bents and Wells could all be in with a chance of a start - assuming no interest has been expressed from other Clubs in them.

Would be interesting to see how they preform. We want a Cup run financially, so it’s not a dead rubber, even though the League is more important. Arguably, their inclusion should strengthen us - on paper at least.

The selection will tell us an awful lot about where we are going with Nige player-wise.

Just seen this on Bristol Live. Why not play all three. Nahki, Weimann and Martin and see what happens.

    Attack

Which brings up nicely into the main area for debate: who out of Chris Martin, Andi Weimann and Nahki Wells will get the nod? All have strong cases for inclusion but there are only two spots available with Pearson wanting a pair in the final third.

To go through each combination: Martin and Weimann has been the manager’s go-to options with the former’s physical presence, aerial strength and touch play and the Austrian running in behind; it’s clear there’s an established chemistry there and they’re the obvious pick, having also started against QPR.

Martin and Wells offers a similar dynamic, with the latter also probably the best finisher at the club, but that means taking Weimann out of the starting XI which doesn’t seems a realistic option right now, given how hard he works on and off the ball.

I think more happened than just 5 goals! ??. Always odd highlight reels these!

Trying to watch the goal highlights but links going to Sky Sports come up "unsuscribed location"

Will probably have to wait until tomorrow when the club adds it on.

Great win though. Sounds like it was a cracking match.

It is a bit weird as just watched the Chelsea and Liverpool goals 2-2 on Foxtel.

Chicken George..... surely this is a wind up

We have Chicken Treat and Red Rooster in OZ. Both are crap. Have KFC too. I remember November 2019 I was back in gods country and watched us go down against Blackburn. Highlight of the day was the KFC close to the ground. If you leave KFC for a day the bones do get softer and you can wash them down with cider.

If it’s not because of a Jan transfer then it’s very poor management.

I don’t recall anybody saying drop Bentley.

He has been consistently one of our better players for past 2 years.

We did not play a Striker last night as well.

People will say we played well  - really that was only the first 25 mins.

And let’s not forget we lost last night and that is ultimately the bottom line.

Bents is a good goalie. The issues are we have not a team yet that can consistently perform in this league under NP.

Match Report from away at Preston (September 2019):

"A frenetic end to end game played out in biblical torrential rain that had everything - except a halfway competent referee. Not only were City inexplicably denied a fully deserved winner from Diedhiou's brilliant one-two and finish to seal an end to end thriller, but the match official finished the game penalising City at every opportunity.

Deepdale is just minutes from the EFL HQ and if you needed a metaphor for the last few years of administrative inadequacy in a league whose quality now vastly outstrips it's organisation, it was seeing a ref unable to keep up with two fine attacking sides and who ended up cheating one of them.

Referee Davies gave Preston 2 penalties to get back from two goals down, allowed a questionable third Preston equaliser and disallowed two City goals in an afternoon he routinely pulled back play, didn't keep up to award advantage, and finished the day simply penalising the dominant visitors any time they got over the halfway line."

Match Report from away at QPR (August 2019):

"Football is sometimes a predictable game - for example when 2 semi-reserve sides are put out for a first round cup game you can guarantee chaos and goals. Today we got both in an end to end game that even had reserve quality match officiating too.

City rode their luck in a match that swung back and forth, but appeared in control at 3-2 up, only for increasingly disinterested linesmen to be compounded by a referee picking and choosing his moments, finally  deciding to award the tamest of penalties.

QPR duly claimed their late lifeline back in the game as Johnson protested furiously but in truth City were always second best in the shoot out bar a brief leveller at 3-3, form being decisive as sluggish Diedhiou and out of sorts Wright, blew their lines."

    SAME REFEREE. Mind blowing.

He is still registered as a referee . Please dont cry over spilt milk. We have experienced bad refs over the years. Even some have been in our favour. The ref is the boss if we like it or not.

  14. What a year.  So many of us have experienced the dreaded covid either family related or work related.

Most importantly every time I am depressed or even happy I love the interaction on OTIB.  true City supporters young and old contribute in some way or another. I wish all you City supporters in pommie land and across the world a very prosperous new year.

Good luck to you all and let us hope we stay in the Championship next season. COYREDSSSSS

I was there, there was a gale-force wind blowing behind Cashley's kick. Rovers had the wind in their favour in the 1st half but only scored once

I also remember Cashley scoring a goal on a night match at home in similar circumstances. I remember the ball bouncing in front of the other goalie and going over his head and in the net. I was in the open end with my dad and this is the end the Cash goal was scored.

Will have to look it up in the City bible to confirm who the away team was at the time.

  16. I do not intend taking away the start of the great match day threads by others. I was looking for a bet and it seems that QPR are most probably the favourites to get a win.

I will be going for a 1-1 draw. Below is what I go from a local betting site. The below accurately and unfortunately summs up where at this present time in the season how bad we are.

QPR have really rediscovered their mojo in recent times, winning ten of their previous 13 games at the top table of the Championship and only dropping points against some games during this spell. Bristol City, by way of contrast, have triumphed just once in 13 matches of late, and they were beaten 4-1 in this fixture last term.
Although Bristol City are capable of putting most teams to the sword in domestic competition, it is interesting to note that 17 of their last 21 Championship games have served up no more than three goals. This has also been the case in 13 of the previous 16 top-flight fixtures involving QPR, so all the evidence points towards under 3.5 goals in this clash.
When QPR come calling in the Championship, excitement usually follows, with the team both scoring and conceding during the same 91 minutes in 16 of their previous 21 away games. Given that 13 of the most recent 16 Bristol City home matches at this level have followed the same pattern, something similar is expected when the teams go head-to-head.

It was my 20th birthday and in the afternoon City gave me a birthday treat and in the intervening years, I've never had any gift so pleasing as this. Stood on the Open End, as each goal went in friends were shaking my hand and wishing me a happy birthday.

great memories. Some great players as well. Merrick, Tainton and how good was Cashleys kick up the field to Keith Fear.

A paragraph that sums it up for me . Joe Root reckons that is the best 18 players playing red ball cricket in England at the moment on this tour. If that is the case we are in trouble for a few years yet.

He is right it needs a reset. As above the gimmick 100 can piss off . We are an embarrassment of a test side

Day3, And an  innings and 14 runs. The sponsers and suppliers to what is supposed to be a five day test would be very dissapointed. Hospitality as well with many thousands checking out of their hotels early, the pubs around the MCG that would of expected to be at full capacity for five days would be devastated. Playing crap cricket effects more people than you think.

The real issue lies with the ECB and the prioritisation of white ball cricket.

We need to put the county championship back to the pinnacle and run it from start to finish of season with 1 50 over tournament and 1 20 over tournament.

The 100 can get in the ******* bin for me but you know it’ll be the blast that gets the chop

Last time I was at the MCG was 1990 and it was England up against Pakistan in the world cup final. We lossed that one as well. It was the grand opening of what was caled the great southern stand at the MCG. A bit like our old East End. The capacity that day in the stadium was 90K. 15K of this was the barmy army. I will always remember attending that afternoon night match as it was the last cricket. I remember getting locked up in the cells at the MCG by the local cops. I think it was something too do with me and my mate smuggeling bottles of scotch of Johnny red inside our jocks. Not allowed to go too a cricket match again since that.
