Good let’s get a good rivalry like we had in late 80 s early 90.s. The 89/90 season was brilliant even though it didn’t go to plan at the end

I remember some great rivalry especially when I was a young lad at away games at the old Eastville ground. The gas and the Tote end and the pitch invasions at the end were both sets of supporters were like two armies running at each end of the pitch, us from the open end and the gas from the Tote end clashing mid way. From memory this was would be mid early 70s.

We will always be the best club in Bristol but looking for a bit of a gas ressurection to bring back some rivalry.

  2. 7-0 and automatic promotion.

Bristol Rovers produced a stunning second-half display to thrash a youthful Scunthorpe side and snatch automatic promotion from League Two on goals scored after a dramatic final afternoon.

Probably good for Bristol football in general terms and next season only one division below us. Even though I wish them luck as long as they always stay a division below us for the rest of my life I will be extremely happy.

I'm 17 and I heard a song on Radio One by a band I was only vaguely aware of and something had told me they were sort of local.

The song was Outside World and I thought it sounded amazing. (Thinking that the show was Alan Freeman's, but I can't swear to it)

The next chance I got, money permitting, I bought the album that the track was taken from (it included a freebie 7" single)

The album Drums and Wires was a clever album. It had all the lyrics to the two previous albums printed on an inner pullout.

So, off I trot to buy the first two albums as well (money permitting again, I'm out of school, but still signing on)

The band is of course XTC and so ensued a life-long obsession and love for EVERYTHING the band did.

I never missed one single release by them ever since.

Saw them live, 1980 at the Studios, saw Dave Gregory once in a Swindon park, but bottled it and didn't have the courage to talk to him because I was starstruck. (He was walking a dog, I seem to remember and I regret that to this day. Not him walking a dog, me being too nervous to tell him he played in the best band of all time, this was 1994 ish)

So now I'm on just on a bit of a phase/reappraisal of their incredible output (Steven Wilson remixes blu-ray versions included)

Would be interested to hear from anyone else who is an XTC maniac  like me.

In my humble opinion, they never put a single foot wrong.

I love a lot of bands and a lot of music, but there are times when i think that XTC is  THE best.

So many memories, they were the entire sountrack to my life up until the year 2000 when they pretty much disbanded.

XTC is the reason why I have a soft spot for Swindon. No not the football team because rivalry is rivalry.

But Swindon has something to be very proud of, because it produced one the most unique and talented British artists in the whole history of rock and pop music.

XTC memories, fav tracks, plaudits etc please

Currently have The Steven Wilson remixes of The Dukes Of Stratosphear albums  playing in my lugholes, day in day out.

    Marvellous.

They were good but not exceptionally good.

XTC was one of the smartest – and catchiest – British pop bands to emerge from the punk and new wave explosion of the late '70s. ... While popular success has eluded them in both Britain and America, the group has developed a devoted cult following in both countries that remains loyal over two decades after their first records. ... XTC's lack of commercial success isn't because their music isn't accessible – their bright, occasionally melancholy, melodies flow with more grace than most bands – it has more to do with the group constantly being out of step with the times. However, the band has left behind a remarkably rich and varied series of albums that make a convincing argument that XTC is the great lost pop band.[1]

Our final game of the season takes us to West Yorkshire. In our last four games we have pounded the Potters, blunted the Blades, ravaged the Rams and tamed the Tigers, let’s hope we can round things off by terrorising the Terriers! We have not beaten any of the current top six this season so here’s our opportunity to change that.

They appointed Leeds United assistant Carlos Corberan as their new head coach on 23 July 2020. He had spent the previous three years with the Whites and coached the club's under-23s as well as being on Marcelo Bielsa's staff. He replaced Danny Cowley after the ex-Lincoln manager was sacked.

It's fair to say that expectations were not particularly high in West Yorkshire heading into the new season. The Terriers made a good start to life under Carlos Corberan last season but fell off badly and a 5-1 thumping by Fulham in their first home game of this season left many expecting the Spaniard to be replaced. However, they have been one of this season’s surprise teams. They secured a play-off place a couple of weeks ago when they beat Barnsley 2-1 a result which also relegated Barnsley.

Our head to head record - we have won 24, lost 27 and drawn 11. Here’s three minutes of misery for those who want some bad memories resurrected:

Ten of the last twelve meetings between us and them have featured three or more goals. They are in great form having won five and drawn one of their last six games!

At our place they won 3-2.

Prior to this game they were just three points better off than us.

The John Smith’s Stadium was one of the first modern-era stadiums to be built in England, and became Huddersfield Town’s home in 1994, when they moved from their previous stadium, Leeds Road. It is also home to Rugby League team, Huddersfield Giants.

The stadium is really unique looking with each stand semi-circular in shape rather than the traditional rectangular structure. The corners are not enclosed, but this hasn’t stopped the stadium winning numerous design awards. The stadium has also played host to international rugby fixtures and a number of concerts. Away fans visiting the John Smith’s Stadium are located behind the goal on one side of the Chadwick Lawrence (South) Stand.

Former Huddersfield Town owner Dean Hoyle is in discussions to buy back the club. Phil Hodgkinson, who Hoyle sold the club to in 2019, has stepped down as a director of the club to focus on his other business interests.

David Webb is the referee today. He was handed his first game as referee for the Bury v Brentford game in 2007, having previously worked for a charity that supports adults with learning difficulties and mental health problems.

    Huddersfield banter

    • Former Prime Minister Lord Harold Wilson was born and raised in Huddersfield and there’s a statue of him outside the train station.
    • The Sex Pistols performed their last ever UK gig in Huddersfield. The infamous punk band performed at Ivanhoe’s nightclub on Christmas Day 1977, before embarking on an ill-fated US tour which saw the group’s acrimonious collapse.
    • Rugby League was invented in Huddersfield in 1895 following a dispute over payments to players. The sport is still prominent in the town thanks to Huddersfield Giants who play their trade in the Super League.
    • The annual Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival is the largest contemporary music festival in the world!
    • Huddersfield has the third highest number of listed buildings of any town in the UK, 3,000 in total.
    • Sir Patrick Stewart, best known for his roles in Star Trek and X-Men, grew up just around the corner in the little town of Mirfield. He remains loyal to his local roots and was the Vice Chancellor of Huddersfield University.
    • Huddersfield Town FC were the first English team to win three league titles in a row, winning the third of their titles in 1926.

    Pubs

Our away support has been brilliant this season let’s hope the traveling Cider Army are rewarded today with a memorable away win. COYR!

Great job Jersey bean. You put all the information available in one concise post. Lets hope for an away win today

Yep, posturing for support from other Champ clubs so that cost-cutting not quite as heavy.

We won’t be anywhere near 6-12 points.

If we were to fail to make the necessary cost cuts, we are likely to be in the 0-3 pts range.

Thanks Dave, News like that gave me bloody pains in me chest so I took an extra aspirine . Now I might have a Creatures Pale Ale and be happy

We have enough value in our squad to sell players and avoid a points deduction.  For me, avoiding it is very important. Gould seemed to suggest we may just take a deduction on purpose.  That may well have been bravado.  If the club is trying to sign players on one hand and presumably talking about the club potential whilst also suffering a points deduction, it’s an awful look

Something like a deduction of 6 to 12 points next season could result in a possible play off spot but then drop us back down to where we are about now this season. The Championship is a very close league when you take on points as a perspective.

I’m not desperate for anything other than not to lose points.  I don’t think we will lose points because of the steps we have taken, which you so eloquently list.  And if we do still look like losing points then I’d expect us to sell players to avoid that. If we didn’t it would be mismanagement.

We have done very well to cut the wage bill. I never said otherwise

I have just googled points deductions Bristol City. It potentially does not look good and there are also other Championship clubs listed as well.

£10 million + appearance and goal fee + 30% sell on clause = very tempting.

I think it will be hard to get much more.

We need to keep him. He has great potential and part of the next two season progression in NP plan for Prem at BS3.

  9. What is it 52 points now and two matches left. Going back a few weeks ago there was a lot of posts around would we get 50 points and would 48 points be enough ? Luckily or not luck we now have 52 and what would seem four or five weeks ago a bit of worry has taken the pressure off. The last few matches the players have shown some tremendous commitment.

I think Hull at home will still be a tough one but the result will be a close win for us. Away to Huddersfield after that will be very tough but a draw is my prediction. This would give us 56 points and very credible at that.

looking at some of the posts on You Tube of city fans away is incredible. It has been incredible all season with the numbers travelling and the singing throughout matches. Those of you having the chance and the money to go away on the last one this season I wish you all the best for a great enjoyable day out.

Im looking forward to next season all ready.

Derby is a fantastic place to watch football and will be sorely missed (vs the Reading's and Watford's of this world).

Disappointed you didn't get any photos of the walk to the ground alongside the river John - quite sunning scenery.

Then peeling off the river path on the way back, coming up these stairs to some of the best away pubs in the land.

Great photos. What is with the cars on the 6th photo parked on yellow lines. It looks a great stadium to watch football.

Technically a very good player, knows his own strengths and weaknesses

In some ways not too dissimilar to an excellent footballer back at the Gate today - Nicky Morgan, who also lacked a yard of pace but made up for it in his thinking , game awareness, and technical ability

He is a very honest player when interviewed. He is down to earth and he knows  what he is good at. A great signing and let us hope he is with us season next season.

    @City oz

Born in 1943, saw my first league match, taken by my father, much to my eternal shame, at Eastville in Feb 1950. Bristol Rugby in March and City v Aldershot on Good Friday 1950. Cardiff City Easter Monday following. In the summer both Glos and Somerset County cricket.

Dad came from Rhondda Valley but his father born in Claverham next to Yatton. When Dad was young he would viisit an uncle who lived on Coronation Road and if City were home, all the males went. Around 1910 to 1914.

We'd go to Cardiff about five times a year en route to visit Nana and they were in the First Division. Saw Blackpool with Stan Matthews, Pompey had twice won the league a year or so before. John Atyeo was an amateur at Pompey while the won them before he joined City. Wolves were an awesome team then with England captain Billy Wright.

So I got in the habit of watching as much live football, rugby and cricket at a very young age. My memory of those days is clear, it's what I did five minutes ago that are the problem now. Early sixties after I left school and I grabbed the chance to see live football whenever I could. Even at Eastville as a last resort. Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea v Liverpool,West Ham in 1963, Fulham later on with George Best and Bobby Moore Internationals at Wembley and lots of City away games. Also didn't miss a City home game for nearly 25 years from 1960.

You are a true robin. My first City home match was around 1968 and I was 6 years old. My dad took me too every home match for many years up to about I was around 11 or 12. We had a nice spot in the East End near the corner and I watched the Dolman stand being built. Then when my dad did not want to take me as he liked his Saturday afternoons in the Concorde pub at Stockwood other City die hards from Stockwood would take me.

Then in my teams I started to go too away matches with mates from Bris school. I remember so many great away matches. Coventry, West Ham, Arsenal, West Brom,

Even had a season ticket in the Dolman between 82 and 83.

89 moved to OZ and have been back only three times in the past 30 or so years but I have always managed to get a home match in. Last one was early December a couple of years ago and we lossed to Blackburn Rovers. I was back for my dads funeral.

The age old scenario when those who admire good football from teams other than their "own" club are derided by others.

I've supported City all my life and have only followed a couple of other sides because I lived in those towns for a while; Shrewsbury and Livingston.

But I've also been fortunate to see live games of some of the best teams in the world at the time.

Portsmouth, First Division champions twice in late 1940's. Wolves in the early 50's. Spurs, league and FA Cup winners in 1961, Brazil at Wembley in 1963 but without Pele. The Busby Babes at Eastville before Munich. Real Madrid's Di Stefano and Puskas, Portugal's Eusebio at Wembley in international games

Liverpool, Forest in 1970's at Ashton Gate.I hated losing to them but had a real thrill to see such quality football.

Now we are flooded on TV with top class football every week, yet while I still admire the class football from them, I still get a bigger buzz going to City. They are my club, for better and for worse, in sickness and in health, til death do us part!

Wow mate back to the 40s. How old are you ? well done mate

I can understand times are hard but this isn't the answer, If us fans don't spend money then dont expect the club to spend either. If we can afford a season ticket then get one we need bigger attendances at the gate we need to generate money for Pearson to spend we can't keep expecting lansdown to find the money. The more money coming into the club the better and we need to play are part.

I bet you and your family and our parents and grand parents that have supported this great club have spent enough all ready. A season ticket purchase does not mean the club and Lansdown will spend.

We need to win week in and week out and the games we draw we need to make sure we have done everything we can possibly do. This will result in season ticket purchases and what snowbals from there.

inconsitencey is the team issue and not us City supporters

  15. 3-3 for me at 40-1.

Peterborough if you can bet on it two of three of their three goals will be from penalties. Set pieces as we know we are crap at all season. We will be under pressure and ultimately commiting stupid mistakes and fowels in the 18 yard box

One point for us is still better than none

  16. 3 minutes ago, Robbored said:

He’s added more goals to his game this season - that’s the difference and I’d imagine the main reason why he’s been called up.

AW has always had goals in him and he could reach the 20 goals mark this season. I’m not sure whether he’s ever bagged 20 in a season before.

Now you have opened a "how many goals will Andy get this season"

I think he will net another six in the championship that brings him up to 24.

I wish all the best to him and hope he does well playing for his country.

Wow, £10-£20m for Massengo. That’s a bit of a stretch to say the least.

Hope we keep him. The development seems a bit slow but the quality is there. He is a great investment if the club can keep him for next season.
