  1. So we buy a player for roughly £1m was it? played him in a couple of games, but hit or miss, has a whole pre-season for Pearson to get him integrated in the team and the way he wants him to play and can’t?

So it’s either the recruitment of the wrong mentality player or Pearson isn’t coaching him well enough?

If that’s the case I’m not surprised SL is reticent in giving NP £20m to spend.

  2. I don't see any sort of game play or style of play that we are trying to do. There is no movement from midfield. People stand behind opposition players and don't make angles for short passes. Any short pass we do make is shin high and too powerful. Ipswich jut played simple 5 yard passes to manoeuvre our players out of the way and then would attack in numbers. Our game plan as far as I could see was pass it across the back 4 to Sykes, to chip a ball down the line for Conway to be outmuscled but hope Knight can pick up the ball form there.

Pearson has done well to steady the ship defensively and we do look solid (until O'Leary either has to kick or save it) but that's come at a huge attacking price where we always seem to be a player or two short on attacks.

The less said about Dr. Death in charge of the medical side the better!

  3. The way I see it is that no-one would be against a new owner coming in, righting the wrongs and financing the club to promotion and then stabilisation in the top division.

How many clubs has that happened to?

Brighton, Brentford, Fulham, Bournemouth, Burnley and the Championship Watford, Stoke and Swansea?

Then there are the clubs who have had an owner come in, risk it all for that promotion, short success and then leave - Cardiff, Birmingham, Portsmouth, Bolton, Derby, Leeds a while ago, Charlton, Reading, Wigan.

Roughly 50/50 success rate from those selected. Now as long time Bristol City fans, which type of owner are we more likely to get? 😆

We are what we are workmanlike but lack the quality,  physicality and craft of alot of the other teams in this division mainly due to parachute payments, lack of funding and not being as big a pull as alot of other clubs In the leauge. We can produce and sell which is all well and good but that investment needs to be put in for a more ready made remedies sprinkled with some home grown talent personally I feel either we need a football man on the board or lansdown needs to sell the club to someone who can get us going on the pitch.

That is exactly what we are. We'd work really hard to press and harry, close the ball done, win it back and then put a 5 yard pass just out of reach of an attacker and have to do it all again.

We seem to have sacrificed attacking prowess for defensive stability. Every attack we have we seem to be heavily outnumbered and it's such hard work to get into a position for a good shot so we rarely get shots on target (only 2 today I think) whereas if you look at Leeds today, they often had 5/6 players pushing forward.

Now SL show you actually mean what you have said for decades about promotion, and let Nige build a team around Tommy.

So first thing you need to do this month is extend contract and pay to Nige and Tommy.

Please don’t fail us again.  We’d be half way to playoffs if you had kept Scott and bought a decent centre half

Keep the faith, people, with Nige.  Best manager, bar none, in 8 decades following City

You do know we're 1 point off the play offs?

That's without Scott (who would have been injured anyway) and he did buy a decent centre half in Dickie.

...but they wouldn't be hitting today's high tech balls, wearing high tech boots and playing on billiard table pitches. Also back then, today's strikers would not have a fitness and nutrition regime to keep them at their peak, they would probably be smokers and drinkers and the same would apply to today's goalies, were they playing back in the day.

So with such a difference in the way footballers trained, etc it would make sense to differentiate the eras.

Maybe we could use the rebranding of the top division as the marker for the modern era?

What do you think was particularly wrong with goalkeepers back in the day? Do you suppose Pickford is better than Gordon Banks was, for example? I appreciate some are now very big and no doubt fitter

    They were crap!

  7. It's common for records to be grouped into smaller/more recent increments to give it some context i.e. last 5 years, 10 years, since the Premier League began, post-war, etc.

Not sure why so many people get upset about it.

.... and if today's players "enjoyed"  playing on muddy ploughed fields for half a season, and being subject to the type of tackling that was allowed in Greaves' time, with little to no protection from referees, many would only play for half a season, let alone manage nothing like the goals they do today.

To be fair, if todays strikers got to shoot against the goalies of that time, they'd all get 50 a year easily.

What a way to mark your 500th game in charge

But this charlatan will no doubt thrive on the extra publicity from playing against Villa in these two games

We've always known how far behind Scottish football is but this just emphasises even more

  9. I’m in Buckinghamshire and playing for the work football team tonight.

    We all generally wear a football teams shirt so we have;

    1 Bristol City

    1 Derby

    2 Spurs

    1 West Ham

    1 Man U

    1 Shrewsbury

1 Rugby top of I don’t know who

    1 Celtic

    3 Watford

    3 Arsenal

and 1 guy wears a different knock off shirt each week. He had Chinas shirt last time I saw him!

Agreeed, but we dont know any facts or context atm. Maybe just an internet exaggeration… follwed by rage reaction, just for a change.

I can tell from the change in font size that you had to copy and paste the word 'exaggeration' because you didn't know how to spell it.

That is why I am unsurprised you are defending someone who admitted giving a man and young children 'dogs abuse'.

  11. I like the fact that after 60 mins we can replace the whole of the front 3 and still have a forward line many could say is our first choice!

    Start with Bell Wells Cornick

    Finish with Mehmeti Conway Sykes

Will be interested to see how Andi gets on. Playing deeper than when he scored all those goals for us, so will need to be disciplined out of possession and quick to support the front guys.

Him and Brooker in their prime was one of my favourite combinations , Lita beating men for pace and poaching . Then Brooker with his strength guile and ability to score outside the box .

I always liked how quick he was in the box while others were static from set prices. I remember a couple of goals at MK Dons when they were at the Hockey Stadium as well as Brentford where he seemed to zip about everywhere before anyone else had moved to bundle the ball over the line anyway he could.
