Our history is littered with ‘returnees’ who have failed to fully live up to expectations second time around, in on or off the field roles - whether loans to permanent (the Chelsea trio, Tomlin et al) or permanent to permanent (Joe Jordan).

There are occasional exceptions. Hopefully, Joe B would be one of those. On the ‘hope’ side, the guy is super-intelligent and highly likeable. He was very fit and athletic. There is a ‘risk’ side though, the mental health aspect and whether that hunger for football and success really does still burn bright. I suspect even Joe doesn’t fully know that - but, logically, he may well view it that if he can’t do it for his hometown Club in familiar surroundings with family support, he wouldn’t be able to do it anywhere else. The other ‘risk’ is that Nige doesn’t know how to play him…for info. he just hasn’t the positional awareness to play full-back, so left/central midfield please.

Let’s hope for an MA-style ‘vigorous’ assessment before we commit so neither parties end up regretting the move. That said, on an emotional level, I’d really love to welcome him back and for him to play a big part in pushing us on.

On the other hand, Carey and Murray did well second time around.

I don't think he fits the way Pearson wants to play and I don't think we will even see him offered a deal on reduced terms. Considering his rumoured salary there must be better players in L1/L2 who will better fit the bill, such as the Wimbledon lad we were bidding for in Jan.

Well, for a good example, look at the Right back. IIRC when we signed Tanner, the then Carlisle manager slagged him off saying he was useless. I think he is getting better and better.

Jesus. Yattongas, post another defeat, is talking of promotion next season. Apparently they only need half a team, and should sign 6 players while losing about 13.

If that level of their squad isn’t up to scratch, they’re in serious strife

The delusion continues. Also, what’s all the “Division 2/Division 1” nonsense. They have NEVER been in Division 1 and only very rarely in Division 2. If we are using the old names, it’s Division THREE. It’s like when they were non league and it was all “5 tier”. Deluded.

Crap team in a third filled rusty stadium, in a scabby dirty little town filled with chavs.

    Disgusting little place.

    Other than that, its ok.

A load of people look like Wally from Where’s Wally and they’ve pointed that out.  If it was us doing it to them I’m sure you’d see the funny side.

We couldn't do it to them.  The people would be so few and so spaced out that it would be too easy to spot Wally.  BRFC Media own goal really, my first thought on seeing it was that chant "What's it like to see a crowd"?

I know it is how football works but it is so sad when as soon as we get good young players, it is always "how long can we keep them?" ,and" how much will we get for them?".

I’m sure that’s what Wycombe fans were saying when we took Mehmeti off them.

  7. I understand your comments re the play-offs, but it does seem to often be a ‘thing’ that one team goes on a hot run after Christmas and goes from bottom third to the play-offs. I may be completely mis-remembering now, but didn’t Hull do it the year of our P.O final?  Someone else went up recently, having been nowhere at Christmas.

I will always remember when Ray Cashley our goalie scored a goal. It was against Hull City in 73. I was at Ashton Gate with my dad, and it was a very cold and foggy night match with high winds. Hull had the advantage in the first half and we had the advantage in the second half. Cash got great distance with every kick in the second half as he had the strong wind behind him. He kicked out from the East End of the ground, and I was with my dad behind the goal in the open end. I remember to this day the ball from Rays clearance bouncing just in front of the Hull goalie, the ball bouncing over his head and the ball going in the net. At first there was some silence and then a fantastic roar as like me this was something different and I think no one actually believed what occurred.

We went on to win that night 3-1 and were either second or third in Division two at that time. Booby Gould and the sticks Ritchie were the other scorers for us that night.

I did not miss a home match at Ashton Gate that season.  I was not yet a teenager that season, and around ten or eleven years old. 73/74 were glorious years, and I will always remember those early years at Ashton Gate in the 70s.

I for one am quite excited for a good and solid home win against Hull next Saturday as we are doing well and NP now seems to have all the jigsaw puzzle pieces in place, however there is still more work to go with the current players he has.

Next Saturday should a hard fought but a positive win in front of probably 20,000 of you lucky ones attending Ashton Gate.

I should be able to live stream the match against Hull and also the Man City one most probably will be live on "be in sports" in OZ.

Every time Cashley got the ball after the goal, the East End shouted “Shoot” ?

From these pics it looks like Tanner is sliding in with his right foot along and down on the pitch and getting to the ball first whereas McTwat is jumping in knees first and a good second to the ball. No foul.

I commented at the time that it looked like they did an almost identical thing, yet only our man got booked.

    That’s nonsense.

This “blip” has been going on for nearly 5 years.

“It all evens itself out” is a myth.

Rather aggressive reply, please try to stay cordial. It’s not nonsense, it’s my opinion and it’s no less valid than your conspiracy theory. If you toss a coin 50 times and it came down heads every time, the probability of tails on the 51st toss is still 50%

  11. It’s just statistics. It’s weird, but this sort of thing happens. When the drought breaks, we’ll probably get penalties in successive games, or even two in the same game. Now, whether we will SCORE from them…
