That's fair. Maybe I am, just don't realistically think we're top two challenge eady and if there's some kinda expectation among the fans well anything is possible but it's a major swing and leap forward needed to say the least.

I think that’s the whole point of being a fan though Mr Pop, after all, they do say “it’s the hope that kills you”. At the start of every season I hope, but not expect, promotion. I always start a season with that expectation. It usually gets disabused by game 3 and sometime at halftime in game 1 ?

I love the fact that we're not just rolling over and letting the Premier League pennies wash over us.

For the right price we sell, that's not in doubt, I think we're all realistic about that, but the "sale on our terms approach" is refreshing, and a sign of our improving overall health, both financially and structurally.

I also genuinely wonder about Alex's attitude to the interest from Bournemouth & Wolves and where he's set his sights personally.  I'm not being naive here as both would obviously be a step up the ladder, but if he was agitating for a move, regardless of destination, as long it was higher up the chain, then I think it may have expedited the process, which doesn't appear to have been the case.  I'm not saying he's particularly loyal to us, or doesn't want to move, of course he wants to progress, but he appears to be pretty sensible in his approach to his almost inevitable rise to the top end of the game.

I suspect he feels he’s in a win win. He seems content here in his flat with Tommy. He is responding well to the coaches and developing brilliantly. He may think “lower Prem team now or mid to upper one next year when I’m still not yet 21”. He might be genuinely content with things either way. Another season of being a big fish in the Championship pond, wouldn’t be so bad.

There is that but the other option would be to buy them and. once the project is completed, sell them off individually to gullible loyal and true fans as a souvenir of the construction of one of the finest buildings Bristol has ever seen.

It would be like owning a spanner Brunel used to build the Suspension Bridge.

    It REALLY wouldn’t ?

You also have to remember this stand I believe was going to be used for away supporters.

So with the 400 odd season ticket holders and the inevitable influx of fans for the first day of the season it makes no sense that they wouldn't have got this sorted months ago.

For any other team perhaps. In the context of BRFC it makes perfect sense. If you wish for something hard enough, the Universe will provide and someone will give it to you FOC. Perhaps they could get the Royal Engineers Rgt in, don’t they build bridges in just a few hours?  I’m sure the Great British taxpayer would be thrilled to chip in to help everyone’s second favourite team.

WTAF!!! Not so much that he believes this crap, but someone thought that there was a good reason to even try this "experiment".

You know there have been many positive things happen during the latter part of my life because of the internet, but sometimes I think that they are more than cancelled out by the absolute "fruitcakery" that no one seems to be able to control.

There’s a meme doing the rounds on FB that goes something like…

”you know in the old days, we thought people said and did dumb things because they didn’t have access to good information?   Yeah, we’ll, it wasn’t that”.

Would do you think we should do if no one is prepared to go any higher up front, then?

Keep a player who wants to leave? With no guarantee that he’s going to be happy in the interim. He also won’t sign the new contract that’s been on offer for months, pretty obvious why.

Wait a year for offers that probably won’t get any higher as he’ll then be a year from his contract expiring?

We realistically have 2 weeks to see what the highest offer we get is and then almost certainly sell.

Bournemouth are currently the only game in town, West Ham might be interested but he’s well down their list.

Not heard any evidence that Alex “Doesn’t want to be here” quite the reverse in fact. I think if no one meets £25M, we keep him. If we DID get promoted next year, everything changes. If we don’t but Alex has another year like last year his value would rise (better PL teams interested) which would offset some on the ‘last year of contract’ loss. Time we stopped selling our best players for less than what we felt they were worth.

we decided to get the Dhedhou ‘value on the pitch’ (although FD didn’t deliver it), I would prefer we do the same again unless someone makes a serious bid.

I don't go on it, but I'd imagine if you looked back, what you would find is that some posters were very pious, and that will always be the case as it is with every other form of social media.

Very true Miah, but it contrasts with the rather more conciliatory attitude taken towards Mr Brown.

You've been quite bullish so far about the £25m and maybe more. I may as well ask.

Do you think we'll actually get a bid of £25m and or above? Granted nearly two months left in the window but there do seem to be or have been a lot of reports of clubs and hesitancy about the price tag.

Scott is just one of many options out there, albeit ahead of many of these at respective stages of their career. I checked a few of these the other day.

I actually could see his development being well served by one more season here but time will tell.

I agree. If he goes now, I foresee a season of sub appearances for a Wolves type team. Another season performing for us and next year you could imagine sub appearances for a Liverpool or Tottnum.

Well he won't be the last if society imposes lenient penalties and football clubs turn a blind eye - the whole point of deterrent is lost. What stops another player going out tonight and doing the same if they think it will just cost them a few £k?

According to Gaschat - 'We will rehabilitate him, we have done nothing wrong' etc. Maybe not but if that is how they want to be associated then they should expect a moral backlash too.

Technically and legally ok, morally and reputation wise - terrible news for the club and genuine fans.

For me the way back for this player is to put all his spare time into charitable and community work. It won't be good enough to just be a goal scoring hero.

I recall Gaschat being VERY pious when we signed Danny Simpson.

I can't see how the West Ham story is true.  Whilst players might be signed for the 1st team squad, no manager will be promising a player guaranteed mins in the 1st team.  Am pretty sure Moyes would have a similar take as Nige; performances in training/pre season dictate who gets in the team & performances on the pitch determine who stays in.

I think the issue was Moyes saying he couldn’t promise Alex ANY first team action. Maybe he took it as something stronger than the usual “you’ll have to fight your way into the team”.

As you (rightly) point out, after Simpson we are in no position to mock here.

It does seem like a very, very, strange signing.

Hadn't Simpson been prosecuted though?  Not excusing it, (can't, it's indefensible), but if someone has served their sentence, the slate is supposed to be wiped clean.  Also, the victim on the Simpson case was saying it was over-hyped, this victim is putting herself through the ordeal of a trial.  Not saying Simpson was OK by any stretch, just that this is a different situation.
