Give me some effing credit.  I don’t make up any stats I post on here or take favourable sequences to spin / prove a point. 😡😡😡

I actually took every single 8 game run under Nige.  No cherry picking.

    FFS

Actual facts from me, sorry if it disproves your midguided thought(s)! 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

How are game results not being replicated if the stars consist of more games than he was manager for..?

Use each result once & it's a fair reflection.

Aren't you basically replicating the use of each result 8 times..?

Well maybe you ought to look it up.  There are 44 runs of 8 games at least equal to 11 points, and 27 runs of 8 games better than 11 points.  We picked up 16 points in one 8 game run, a few 15 points.  Our worst 8 game run was 5 points, in that first season.

    Baseless “facts”!!!

    Exactly.

44 runs of 8 games.... that alone totals 352 games.

He was in charge for 131 games - so that must be cherry picking the very best groups of games & replicating many games into different selections of 8 game periods.

How many stand alone 8 game periods exceeded his average stats..?

The depressing lack of back to back wins under NP, reflects the polar opposite to how you have relayed the stats in a very pro NP manner.

    I'm surprised by that.

I assume that is selecting a favourable 8 games to suit the angle required.

If he had that many decent periods (cherry picked), then pretty much the entire rest of the time must. Have been utter dog shite, because his record generally over 2.5 years was pretty uninspiring.

His home record was generally abysmal & we rarely won back to back games. Facts.

11 points in 8 games? I think the two wins in a row are making people exaggerate a little…..

Yeah - so 1.375 pts per game, average.

NP overall have 1.2 ppg  average & I can't recall many/any periods where his average got much above that.

My son and I support Bristol City and Southampton, but are Southampton fans first. He's 10, and I don't want to sit with the away fans.... because away fans can be a bit extra.

I thought I'd get us family stand tickets, but wondered if it could cause trouble if he accidentally lets out a cheer at a Saints goal?

I'm sure you'll be fine, if you are suitably respectful of being in a home area of the ground.

I once had to get tickets in the home end at Southampton (not family stand) & got treated like Shite, grassed up to a steward & kicked out the ground, simply for not cheering when Southampton scored.

Which was fair enough, I knew the chances when I took that option.

It all depends who ends up being sat around you - but you should be OK in the family stand area.

I doubt they'd permit any visible saouthampton shirts or scarfs though.

You'll just have to accept you may get kicked out if anyone takes objection to you being there.

I think that’s nonsense, and I don’t know why people keep saying it.

I’ve defended LM a lot when he’s come in for some unfair criticism but I honestly think the results/points return would be roughly the same.

And for me, that’s a positive because it shows the players have reacted the right way to LM coming in.

Nobody knows what the results would have been under NP & it's a waste of time considering it - but I'm pretty certain that a stat comparison would back up the (pointless) claims.

Very, very rarely did we win back to back games under NP - especially against 2 top six sides.

Very rarely, if ever, did we win 3 out of 4 home games under NP.

Without looking it up, I'd suspect that LM's PPG stats are already better than at any point under NP, over a similar number of games (of course that can changes ina game or 2 at this early stage)

There is little to argue in that we seem to be creating more shots at goal than under NP & that can only help make games better to watch & help improve results.

It's been a pretty decent start for LM & hope we continue to see improvement.

My title is perhaps a little inflammatory but I do think Aston Villa are being a bit oversensitive or pious here on the face of it.

Can you provide us all with the transcript that you've obviously been privy to, of exactly what the Brentford fans abuse was - then we can all make our own mind up on whether there is an over reaction or not.

It's not really fair if only you have seen it, which you obviously must have....

    Don't agree.

I think he was there in terms of physicallity after a game or two, but I don't think he's been there mentally at all.

Numerous missed chances is testament to that imo.

Even on Saturday when he turned right in the area when a quick shift left would have left him with a clear shot. That would probably have been in the net last season or at least tested the keeper.

I don't think he's been on it at all up till saturday - getting in the positions, yes no problem, but his finishing has been poor which is unlike him .

But I did see signs saturday and that goal will have done him the world of good even though it was more or less a tap in - he got there to get on it. His face lit up when the interviewer brought that up, he lives for scoring goals.

I think he's back on it after a bit of a hiatus and I fancy him bagging a goal tomorrow.

So you don't agree - but you agree...?!

Been involved in junior football for years in North Somerset and when they get to U14s games are played on Sundays, so kids that play both football and rugby have to make a choice

That would explain it then my son is 9 so not got to that yet.

You have never heard of kids football on a Sunday,Jesus Christ when I played as a kid I played Saturday and Sunday and that’s a long time ago and still exists, honest question have you ever played football

Yeah, only to fun/pub league stuff.

On Saturday mornings as a kid & then only ever wanted to play on Sundays from my mid teens onwards, because Saturdays were all about watching City.

Since I've had my son & he's been of playing age, we have lived in North Somerset & it seems to be Saturday = football, Sunday = Rugby for his  age groups around here.

0930 or 1030 kick off times mean we can always make City home games but no chance of away games - so this one being on a Sunday is good for me & anyone else with that schedule - was my point.

I'm not questioning if there is kids Sunday football - there just doesn't seem to be around my way.

There is a huge contingency of kids playing Sunday league football - Hanham minor for up to 11 year olds and then the Avon youth league 12-18 .  To give you an indication at u12’s level alone there are approx 75 teams all playing every Sunday 9 a side - there’ll be a few (2-3?)  thousand kids really all playing Sunday league footy I imagine when you pull together all the teams from u7’s through to u16’s ..
My lad plays Sunday PM so we were hoping for a Saturday or now a  tactical postponement on the Sunday !

I'm sure there are - I've just never heard of it.

My kids football was always Saturday. My sons (Under 10) is Saturday morning & everyone I know who's kids play, all play Saturdays.

Sunday has always been more of a Rugby day, where I live.

  12. 3 hours ago, Harry said:

Yep. I think the Sunday youth leagues are gonna mean quite a few people with chips covered in urine.
And even if the games get weathered off, it’ll be too late for them to get a ticket or make arrangements.
Shame really. I’d have expected a sell out on a Saturday but Sunday means I’d knock a fair few off of that.

Or all the kids that play on Saturdays & can't do away games can now go...

I've never even heard of kids football on Sundays- thought that was just pub league stuff.

Every kids team I know of play on Saturday mornings & this now means I can take my son without missing his game, so all good for me.

Can’t really argue with that ! Bet there’s not a footy fan in the country that wouldn’t instantly recognise that kit !  Can’t believe I’ve said this out loud 😂

This is true - but then most people would recognise Susan Boyle aswell..... !

I gave up watching city during the Lee Johnson era. Got fed up with it all. The atmosphere,  the football, the lot. 17 years a season ticket holder but just had enough.  Happy to listen on the radio these days. At least I can fall asleep at home

I don't think this thread was aimed at you then.

    Professional sporting clubs average attendances as it stands today;

    1. Bristol City 22,355 (ranked 12th in Championship)

    2. Bristol Bears 19,781 (Last season, can't find this seasons average)

    3. Bristol City Women 8,671 (ranked 4th in WSL)

    4. Bristol Rovers 7,820 (ranked 14th in L1)

    Says it all really.

I know we knock Bristol Sport a lot on here, but stand back a bit from our narrow perspective and that's an impressive set of stats.

Especially when 30 years ago we'd regularly get home crowds around the 7,8,9k mark.

Look at the whole structure of the club off the pitch & we are a million miles away from where we were - we just haven't found the golden formula on the pitch yet, which is frustrating, of course - but that can often overshadow all the other good stuff.

What about Hull and Swansea, or Stoke (where we somehow contrived to lose), we played some fantastic football in those.  For a mid-table side with mid-table resources, we got a mix of performances.  It felt far from turgid as an overall view from what I saw, but all about opinions.

There were exceptions, of course - it was the total lack of any consistency that was most frustrating - as demonstrated by the appalling stats for back to back wins (lack of)

I think what you say highlights the point - we ARE capable of it, but never produced it often enough.

I've no idea if that might improve with fresh ideas & leadership - it will be fascinating to see.

You're not providing the full picture tho.

His last 5 games included a game against Cardiff where we barely had 11 fit first team players.

We lost narrowly to a very good Ipswich team.

    Scored against Coventry and won.

Lost to Leeds and beat Rotherham.

So I'm not sure it's correct to say goals had dried up. Just the circumstances and the level of the teams we were playing.

The previous 5 to that we scored 8.

We had scored 15 goals in 14 league games. That is pretty dire.

Moreso was the lack of goal scoring chances. Our shot stats were often poor.

Of the games you mention - Cardiff, yes - utterly decimated by injuries.

Ipswich, we were unfortunate to lose.

Coventry we were fortunate to win.

Leeds I don't know much about, but was almost inevitable we'd lose.

Rotherham we were dreadful & TC saved us with 2 outstanding finishes.

Bar Plymouth, we hadn't really looked convincing all season.

Millwall was decent enough, without really looking much of a threat.

It was just all pretty turgid & we'd become satisfied with not getting battered due to sheer hard work.

I've always agreed that the timing seemed odd, with the injuries as bad as they were - but I've no issue with the decision to replace him whatsoever. It's been drab generally. Only time will tell if he wasn't getting the best out players - I've always been of the opinion that we should be better than he had us - let's see how the season pans out & if there was any merit to that view.

Then let's see what LM changes over the summer, when he's had a proper chance to look & assess what he's got here & what he things needs adding/changing.

It will be the end of next season that a fair comparison can be drawn, imho.

You said we didn't have a consistent game plan. We did. It took 2 years to evolve via moving players on etc and couldn't always be executed due to injuries (Sykes having to play RB for example), but we had a plan and a way of playing.

    I don't think we did.

Perhaps moreso away from home - but not generally.

We often relied on something out of the ordinary from an individual, rather than looking like we had any real tactic.

When we shored things up defensively (eventually) it was to the detriment of almost any attacking flair or purpose.

I can only think that the game plan you refer too was hitting teams on the counter - which was fine when it worked - but our goals had dried up almost completely by the time he left & watching us was generally drab.

We did. It's not my problem if you couldn't see it.

Then why did we struggle to get more than a handful of back to back victories throughout his tenure..?

Why was almost every positive performance followed up by the same old rubbish..?

What was our home form so abysmal during his tenure.?

Why were we utterly inconsistent over the 2.5 years that he was in charge - that doesn't come of having a settled game plan & shape that gets the best out of the players.
