What's not to like ? The total dirge of the first 35 minutes, Max's continuous poor kicking (finally resulting in us conceding a goal), unable to find a team mate with a simple pass, lack of movement to create space and give the man on the ball options, Vyners two howlers (got lucky first half). Shots on target included the 3 goals, mehmetis tame effort after a long run, Conway's miss, not exactly edge of the seat stuff. Complete lack of pressing (except Knight, who left a massive hole behind him each time), standing off watching them pick any pass they wanted, us not picking up runners etc. We all see it differently but I thought it was a poor performance/ game and was at least expecting to see a set game plan and more inventiveness after 2 weeks doing nothing else

We didn't have any consistent game plan or style under NP after 2.5 years - & you expect LM to have nailed everything over 2 weeks..?!

I think some people are determined not to want to see positives..!

We had more shots on target yesterday than the vast majority of games I can remember under NP & against a good team who are flying & beat Leicester, with a clean sheet, last time out.

Of course it wasn't perfect - but I thought there were tangible signs of difference in what we did or tried to do - which was impressive after only 2 weeks.

I think you’re over thinking this feeling of ‘sourness’. Apart from a few acting like heart broke teenagers on here - people are moving on

I just think the football has been shit for so long - and so has the atmosphere. Let’s be completely honest, the atmosphere at Ashton Gate 95% of the time is absolutely dire . Completely flat - and a lot of that is driven by the dull football that’s been dished up consistently for the last 5-6 years

    Absolutely this.

Not for the first time, you'd get totally the wrong impression of what it was like at the ground, by reading things on here.

Read this forum & you'd expect the majority of the crowd to be dressed in black, mourning the passing of a legendary manager......

The reality is, in my limited mingling with others at the ground - that nobody has any issue with NP being replaced & believe that we've not progressed in 2.5 years (despite acknowledging he did a good job in other aspects) the football was generally dour & he didn't get the best, or any consistency out of the majority of the players or as a team.

People seem genuinely refreshed by the change, if not a little unsure of whether it will push us forward.

Early signs are encouraging & it was notable at the final whistle, how refreshing it was to have enjoyed a day at football again..!

Not too sure how I feel about him doing the lap of honour with the players.

But then I didn't like Pearson not really acknowledging the fans but I also understood how he wanted the players to take the credit and not him.

I actually noted & thought to myself how it was nice that LM kind of tagged along behind the players - let them take the plaudits, without making it about himself - & then had his own little moment at the end.

First impressions are that he is quite a classy guy.

He must have been absolutely thrilled & relieved to start his home reign off with such an impressive result.

That will buy him some time when it would have been easy & understandable to struggle with a run of fixtures against Boro, Southampton & Norwich.

Another 2 points or more against the next 2 & he will have had a very encouraging start, in difficult circumstances.

I think you’ve got him a bit wrong to be honest.  He didn’t say it was our club that made him go to a casino and he has taken responsibility for what he has done with his life and the hurt he has caused.  A man who suffers from addiction and depression, and a man you’ve never met, yet you have no tolerance for him?  Nice

Little tolerance. You've literally quoted what I said above & then changed it.!

I understand that addiction is an illness - but it also leads to lies, manipulation, deflecting the blame & failure to take responsibility.

If you've ever had prolonged, direct effects of an addict then I'd love to know how you maintained higher levels of tolerance with their behaviors.

If you haven't, then your not really in any position to miss quote or judge on those that have.

It's easy to sit in an unaffected bubble, saying "oh poor little addict, it's not their fault"

The reality is that, whilst not always being their fault - once addiction takes hold, they are dangerous & destructive people to have around your life.

The fact that the post referred to on thos topic is him feeling sorry for himself for not getting a job that blatantly I justified in not being right for him, is an example of how everything is always someone else's fault.

I hope addiction has never disrupted your life, I genuinely do.

For those it has, they may have a slightly more realistic view on why I might say what I said above.

But if you're playing in an u19's football team you play when you're 19 🤔

Yes, but they aren't playing for an under 19 team - they are buying a ticket, which is self explanatory in it's qualifying age.!

25 years ago some friends and I used to forge university letters to prove we were students and get student season tickets. Did it for about 5 years I think. Big savings.

    You will be fine

Pushing your luck by getting an under 19 ticket on your 19th birthday is a bit different to outright fraud & ripping your own club off your years..!

A bit like Rovers, I feel I dislike them too much to parachute them into the Prem. You're right though, games have a definite edge.

Strange comment, as pretty much all the biggest ten clubs in the country are part of it.

True, but at least Swindon have been in the top flight themselves, by their own doing & wouldn't be requiring a completely hypothetical miracle, like the gas would.

  8. He was a Top Top talent when he was on loan with us - great player with a huge potential.

Since then he has come across as a self pitying whinger. All the usual traits of an addict - always someone else's fault without taking responsibility for their own actions.

Wasn't it our club at fault for him to keep going to the casino.?!

Now he applies for a job (not on TV, but that suits his agenda better) and whinges about the sole funding company, understandably, not thinking he's the right fit for the show.

A player I'd loved for us to have had for longer - but a person I have little patience or tolerance for.

That’s decent support considering the distance.

I know that’s not the point of this thread but it is.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the bloke who bet on games he played in, gets the gig now.

That is good support - nobody can argue otherwise.

Their problem comes from exaggerating all the time.

Even yesterday when Mangan was asked about the 597 who'd made the long trip, he mentioned the "3 thousand" who went to Reading- it wasn't 3,000 so why say so, you f'king moron.?!

As I said in MDT, play like that against Boro and it’ll turn sour very quickly. That was really, really bad.

If anyone was of the opinion that Pearson not being a ‘touchline manager’ made Any difference during games, case in point it makes no difference whatsoever. I’ve no idea why we try to play through & not over first half, they had a very high line and we had pace on the wings.

Southampton away after Boro too, talk about baptism of fire.

JL & Tinnion currently writing up their narrative for back tracking re: this not being a top 6 squad.

How about we review this after those games - when the manager have had time to even learn the players names.?!

Doubt he played the two worst teams in the league very often either?

Regardless, will take a few months to start seeing what Manning wants the team to be I imagine. Have to give him a bit of a free pass for a while in my opinion.

But he won all his games against all relegated teams in his time here, did he.?

One thing that worries me is that Manning failed when he had key players sold on his watch, but Nige kept us playing competitively and could say improving

I would expect MK Don's losing their main 2 players to have more effect on their squad than us losing 1 or 2 of our key players.

    I’d never buy a bmw.

I never have had a BMW & never plan too... but if I ever did, I'd have to get the badge ceramically changed to at least Red & White (I've seen a few other people do something along the lines of that)

However - my first aim is to never be enough of an ignorant tosser to justify being behind the wheel of a BMW...!

Most people are just passing stuff on in good faith.

    No,

Most hear hear something & don't question it's source & then pass it on as ITK in the hope that it might stick & people will believe they are ITK, when in reality, it's pure fluke that what they'd heard happened to happen.

But isn't that down to Alex Scott being sold and a replacement not being brought in?

Also Conway and Wells have been injured.

Sykes has had to be moved around the team to cover positions.

We've then had injuries in midfield too.

So with all that in consideration you can understand why we may have not been as attacking.

Partly & that is why the timing surprised me - but we weren't really much better last season, with all those available.

I wasn't in any rush to get rid of NP & appreciated that he was doing dirty work behind the scenes - but I'm not bothered that he has gone either.

I think, on the pitch, we have been utterly underwhelming since he came.

Of course it's a gamble & will be interesting to see what the change will do.

We could go backwards or we could thrive - who knows yet.?!

I disagree. Over the past year performances have been pretty consistent, just that results haven't been and that's probably due to all the injuries and Pearson being given the bare min to spend.

You are somewhat dismissing how difficult it is to sort out defensive frailties. Its not just a tactical thing, it's a mentality thing.

This season I felt we had taking a huge leap forward with that. We had players throwing their bodies on the line to prevent goals and that was without the likes of Atkinson and Vyner.

Definitely better defensively this season - bit our attacking play has gone to pot & we look like we have very little plan, Bar the occasional counter attack.

So we rip up the template of the past 3 years and start all over again..... wonderful

    What..?

Alot of hard, dirty graft has been done by NP - an area of his role where he did a good job.

At no point to I ever think he developed the team to get the most out of them, by style, game plan or tactics.

We were terribly inconsistent & it took an age to address our defensive frailties.

As other posters have said - there's no doubt he did alot of good work - but mostly off the pitch & on it we frustratingly bang average, or worse, throughout the majority of his time in charge.

Go and listen again. He said promotion with this squad of players this season

Yes, that was the hope/expectation/target - it's not going to be for the new man, this season.

That would be ridiculous as he isn't starting from level pegging with the rest of the teams, like NP was - he had a deficit to make up & 15 games less to achieve anything.

Progress will be expected, but it would be extremely harsh to expect any manager to be targeted with getting top 6 this season and would be outstanding if he managed it..!
