I've seen a lot of this narrative about Gary Johnson on here recently, and my memory must be completely wrong as I remember him being a very popular appointment. The Brentford game after he was announced, but before he'd taken full charge, already had people singing his name.

Fair play, he had became slightly less popular after losing 10 of his first 13 games..

There were shirts "Johnson's, no more tears" at his first home game if I remember rightly.

Really, because I made this point to someone else earlier.

You're argument seems to be that the next manager should be one who has a promotion from the Championship if that is our aim.

    Thats very flawed reasoning.

If every team takes that approach, no manager without a previous promotion will ever have a realistic shot at getting a promotion because they'll be at a club that's in a relegation fight or expect to be around mid table.

So what happens then? How do managers show they're capable if they're not given the opportunity to do so?

Should Burnley have not kept Kompany?

What experience of qualifying for Champions League football did Arteta have? Or Howe?

What about the managers that have got a promotion from the Championship but failed to replicate it in the time since? Why should they take precedent over someone who has only ever had a good record at the clubs they've managed?

Should Huddersfield not have appointed Wagner, because he'd never won a promotion before then?

Cotterill had never been promoted from League 1 before we appointed him, but that worked out fairly well.

    I get ya.

What gives you more chance of getting promoted a manager that has been promoted or a manager that hasn't? By your logic I could be as good a football manager as anyone else so only another 8 billion people in the world to try before we find out match.

In the last 20 years we have had 2 managers that have had experience of getting teams out of this league (in the correct direction) one of them stayed for about 3 games because the Lansdown are C u next Tuesday's. Meanwhile the rest of the time as we bounce between the second and third tier we have appointed good tacticians that can't drive an ethic into a team, we get soft like our managers/coaches - the type of people the Lansdowns know live in fear of there wealth and power over them.

It's not that I'm anti someone that hasn't been promoted before but I don't trust the Lansdowns to get this right at all - they don't know what makes a successful football team so they don't know what they are looking for in someone to create it. The only option is someone who has already demonstrated that they know what they are doing otherwise there are going to be a lot more upset people around Ashton gate.

What is the paradigm appointment time that doesn’t have the similar hit/miss rate you describe? Internal appointment? Foreign manager? Experienced hand? Someone that has won something?

Every appointment type you can point to will have hits a misses.

My argument is that just saying good league one managers is what good league one teams have is facile.

Fair enough. I'm looking for someone who knows how to get promoted out of this league, you sound like you are happy with someone who has a history of being competitive in league 1.

Everyone will be hit and miss, I agree, I would just prefer someone who has had a hit at the thing we are stating as a minimum requirement (getting promoted).

Promotion wasn't even in their minds when they appointed Rowett.

They were more focused on not being relegated.

So not our stated goals then.

Who are you hiring then out of interest? No premier league managers that can beat premier League teams would come to us. The championship quality managers that have, with mixed success, beaten championship teams are quite uninspiring. At least here we are getting a forward thinking, yes untested, but attacking manager.

I wouldn't have sacked Pearson, I hear he is out of the job, ticks all the boxes for me so would hire him!

I wonder what Birmingham fans thought when they brought in Rowett

He hadn't managed above league 2 at that point so clearly didn't deserve a chance at managing in the Championship.

Probably that they had had enough of Lee Clarke and they wanted someone with experience of getting promoted from this division?

Blimey, you alright mate. We have a league one manager coming to the club. Our reference for that manager is his performance in league one. Great insight in identifying league one as not being the championship. Maybe crack open a thatchers tonight to cool off x

If we want to be good in league 1 we can hire good league 1 managers.

See, I always thought players only had a left foot and right foot.

Are they evolving into having a back foot and front foot as well?

I am not too concerned about possession. 30% is often enough to score goals if you get the ball into space quickly.

We are not good at breaking teams down so that is possibly his first task, if confirmed.

I had to look up front foot football and the best I can come up with is that it is the opposite of being on the back foot - seems an obvious/pointless statement - like saying we want to score goals, don't want to be on the back foot so get on the front foot.

What team wants to be on the back foot because not every team can be on the front foot?

It’s not the lack of big name for me, it’s lacking any experience at our level and having had no tangible success (I.e. promotions).

He has got a hell of a task. Needs to get promotion and win over a fan base who, in the main, didn’t want a change of a manager. Fair play to him if he can do that.

I assume he gets the sack if we don't get promoted though?

Surely we can get a few rounds of “ There’s only one Nigel Pearson” going ? No more than the man deserves  ???

I see this as supporting the team he built as well as showing support for him with subtext of **** the Lansdowns. Win win win.

Apparently having a crash course on how to cheep ‘yes’ ready to be announced as the new head coach.

I thought you were going to say scrumpy had done an interview explaining Nige's departure!

  12. Well that's cleared up **** all.

"We know who we want to speak to, but the news is only just out so names might be added in the near future" what the **** is it? Is it that you know who you want to speak to or is it that your waiting for people to apply?

Obviously no follow up questions like "Why didn't you back Pearson when Scott left then?" To the nonsense of we weren't getting promoted line!
