  1. I thought it was flat before the game on Saturday, it was flat when the game started and was flat until the second half when for about 5 mins we had a go and the crowd were singing JD.

Not having a go but the corner just didn't seem up for it let alone the rest of the ground.

I said on a thread a few weeks ago that there have been times when SL could have gone for it. The January of 2008 and the subsequent summer of 2008 after the player off final were the obvious ones long before FFP were a thing.
Easy to all say in hindsight now though..unfortunately we are stuck with the fall out from the Ashton regime, its going to be hard going and you just hope we can unearth another academy gem in the mould of a Reid Kelly or Bryan that can be sold for a big fee.

If you ask SL I'm fairly sure he would say he did go for it in 2007 and again in 2008. This is part of the problem one way or the other - whenever SL goes for it it's not enough so we barely notice and then seem to wonder why we don't go for it creating frustrated fans.

You really need to calm down. Nobody called this group racists so not sure why you need to tell us that they were multi racial and not racist in every single one of your posts.

All Lives Matter would not have been put on that banner if it wasn't for the context of it being opposed to a Black Lives Matter demo, so context does indeed very much come into it. It was not intended to be racist, but it does seem to be a little clumsy to me.

I did a quick search on "All lives matter" and it doesn't appear to be a racist slogan in any context. It appears to be a slogan used in criticism of the Black Lives Matter movement - which isn't beyond criticism.

It does say that All lives matter is associated with conservative values, I would say once again conservative values aren't even close to being racist. What I increasing see is that it is convenient for some to lump everyone on the right in the racist bucket to try and make them look like an extremist which ultimately means they don't want to be part of the conversation.

Luke, you are correct in identifying the difficulties faced by many white, working class men, but please don't tell me you really believe it is easier to be born a black man in the UK in 2021 than it is a white man? If you do, we'll just have to agree to disagree as I find that belief to be staggeringly inaccurate.

I think everyone goes through difficult times in there life and has different challenges.

I get where you're coming from, but the term originated as a response to the Black Lives Matter movement in America made by white supremacist groups, pretty much cementing it's place a a racist slogan.

I am not branding anyone who uses it unknowingly a racist, but once it has been pointed out to someone then it would make sense that if that person continued to use it they would be deliberately using a slogan they know to be racist, and therefore have racist intent.

From my perspective the bits in bold are true, everything else is your perspective or extrapolation of your perspective.

I've never heard anyone that's racist say "all lives matter". Surely if your racist you don't think "all lives matter" you think what ever race you support matters.

See what I mean - the language creates confusion and feels to me like it lumps moderate right wing people in with racists and thugs which alienates them from the discussion because they find far right people as obnoxious as moderate lefties and far lefties do.

  6. Maybe I'm a bit far along on the spectrum but is "All lives matter" really a racist term?

@richwwtk you say it with such conviction the way I read you saying it but it feels like a bit of a "newspeak" term where I've missed the memo so therefore if I say it then I'm branded racist thus alienating me from the conversation. To me it clearly means what it says even if it's in response to black lives matter - I don't know why it can't be taken at face value, e.g. that all lives do matter?

It's this kind of deliberate playing with language and it's meaning that really confuses me and someone just saying that it's different doesn't make it different IMHO. Obviously we all have to agree on language otherwise we're speaking different languages and once again communication breaks down.

Not quite sure why a bunch of thugs are being legitimised in this way.

Its a bit strange. I assume it's because the Bristol post need page hits and people are still interested in football violence.

Would any of us have clicked on it if it was just random bloke who isn't racist talks about protecting the cenotaph?

Not that I care for this type of thing but the Gas must hate this type of thing - the article must have said how long we have been bigger than them for about 4 times.

No, but a bit of involvement wouldn't go amiss.

Isn't this a bit of involvement?

To be honest I would prefer he talked less so clearly not going to please everyone. He's a figurehead and figureheads shouldn't talk about the team (that the managers job), he shouldn't talk about strategies (that's the CEOs job), he shouldn't talk about ownership (that's his dad's role). That doesn't leave him much to talk about to be honest - check the CEO is doing his job, smile and promote the club to potential investors, make sure daddy turns up with the cheque book when the club needs it, stay out of the day to day running of the club.

  9. Maybe I'm missing the point but the goal didn't seem that special and he did pretty much nothing for the rest of the game.

Don't get me wrong I think Messi is the best player in the world but saying this is special when compared to other things he has done seems a bit hollow to me.

There wouldn't be a thread on here if Danny Welbeck had done exactly the same thing.

  10. Something needs to be done with FBC, the content is usually ok and I find it hilarious listening to Ian.

The normal reason given for poor quality is that they do it live but this was a big step down from something that was already poor. Whatever they are using to do it is clearly a poor choice of tools (it sounds like they are doing a zoom call but trying to record the audio out of someone's speaker) and how they are using it is clearly wrong with loads of background noise basic etiquette dictates either a silent background or going on mute.

The same ref who bottled sending off the Fulham player?

To clarify I think he allowed for a good game to happen, which isn't always the case.

I don't think any ref would have sent that Fulham player off, refs are usually lenient with players that are on a yellow and it seems to have to be clear that a players has lost control for a second yellow.

Might not be strictly to the rules but it's pragmatic.

Real tackle that, a bit of a throw- back moment he showed his bravery, determination and speed, and they both got straight up and carried on and the ref didn’t get involved, which too often happens these days when there’s been a crunching tackle.

I thought the ref did a good job yesterday telling players a few times to get up and get on with it.
