When people say away fans are 'taking the piss' or 'being cocky' do they mean actually attacking innocent City fans or do they just mean singing and attempting to goad City fans?

If it's the former then that's certainly not something I've seen in the last 20-30 years, though sometimes before that maybe, albeit incredibly rarely.

If it's the latter, then why do you feel the need to retaliate? Are you that insecure? Either just ignore them or try and outsing them ffs.

Take Tuesday night as an example, Forest fan walking along quietly then got to the Dolman entrance and started singing Forest songs looking around at everyone to see if anyone was going to say something, once the guy was a few meters further down the road some young lad tells him to "**** off". That was enough for this Forest fan to stop turn around started walking towards the young lad and said "come on then". This prompted about 20 of our young lads to think that was directed at them so they on mass walked towards him, he realised he had bit off more than he could chew and was massively outnumbered so he tried to leg it - a bit of a game of what I would deem rough tag ensued while they chase him around the Dolman entrance until the Forest fan made it to the park.

Having seen it unfold before my eyes it was clear the Forest fan was looking for it, instigated it, found it, and then regretted it. Forest fan was obviously a bellend, our young lad shouldn't rise to it but at that age you don't really have that level of self discipline and can be quite easy to wind up.

Interesting what you mean "take the piss"

I seen a number of our fans goading and trying to start something with Swansea fans on the walk home out of the ground. Some football fans of any club are just bellends basically

Gloating, goading generally winding people up and looking for trouble.

I assumed the Swansea stuff post game was related to the Swansea stuff pre game. It exists on both sides, I'm not one of the "it only happens between like minded people" people and it's definitely both sides and innocent people always get caught up in it.

I have wondered if it due to almost 2 years of not issuing football banning orders.

I'm confused, if none of that wouldn't have happened pre-Covid, when wouldn't it not have not happened?

Yes I seemed to have had a autofill meltdown on that last sentence and realised a couple hours later when someone else replied but couldn't got back and edit it at that point.

All teams coming down here takin the piss now wheres our young uns wouldnt have happened years ago

There were plenty of joyful forest fans taking the piss on Ashton road after the game one of them decided to front up and say "come on then" when he was told where to go (so was obviously like minded?) and got chased around a bit. From what I've seen this season it's pretty normal now for away teams to take the piss on Ashton road. Bournemouth fans were doing it Saturday, Blackpool at the beginning of the season threw a few cans at themselves by accident while trying to target city fans, Preston were gobby apparently (didn't see that one), even Fulham gobbed off a bit but quickly walked away.

I find it interesting because none of that wouldn't have happened pre COVID, not sure what's happened.

Thought in 2007/08 the atmospheres were quite good in general- it was arguably our best season in a generation, certainly the closest we had come to a top flight return since 1980.

Yeah, as I said - one of the best seasons in the last 30 years but some of those last 10 as we slipped away from the automatic positions were very quiet nervous atmospheres. Things like losing at home to Plymouth or the 0-0 with Wolves and Watford.

The singing section at home is really poor in my opinion - certainly not helped though by location in the stadium.
Such a limited, one dimensional set of chants with still no reference to many of the players. Yes there are a couple of decent ones but does JD need to be sung about so often just because they can’t think of anything for any else?!
As someone said above - the S82’ers really do need educating on what good chants sound & look like. It’s a bit embarrassing when old guys like me have more idea than the Youth!!

Go on then, go there and educate them, I'm sure they will welcome you as they are a great group of lads.

Strangely, facilities isn’t one of the things they apparently judged it on. No idea why not, they seem pretty fundamental. But the facilities at Ashton Gate are (in my view) some of the best anywhere. Even places like the Etihad, for all that it’s a great stadium, has far worse facilities (concourse, outlets, toilets etc) than Ashton Gate.

Almost like the survey was sceewed on purpose to give an answer they wanted to give ?.

But we aren’t winning (at home), so what exactly is the pro? It just seems to me that as the focal point of the club he should be close to the action, I don’t think any opposition managers have sat in the stand at AG this season.

I’m not pretending it will solve all of our home problems, but he’s got to do something different, and if not, why not?

Didn't he answer that in his last interview to say he wouldn't be pitch side. He goes where he thinks it will have the best chance of us winning, with all his experience I'm going to trust him to be where he is needed.

I also see his role as bit different to managers previously and other managers, he's certainly not a hands on coach, he seems more like a puppet master (rather than the blood and thunder type I expected of him - he seems rather zen), he seems to provide very clear guidance and requests to the players - they all seem to comment on this but he is already seemly a bit more removed and maybe a toe in that that DoF role we keep banging on about.

  9. Thinking it through Ashton gate must surely be in the top 50 stadiums in the country on any scale. I would be surprised if it's not in the top 30 but I guess it depends on what your looking for.

It's arguably better than maybe half of the prem stadiums. Stadiums like West hams and Leicester's are just shit. Burnley, Palace and Watford have far worse facilities.

Probably doesn't help with most fans arriving late, or staying in the concource until 5 minutes from the start. Mind you we don't have the Rocking Robins anymore ...

We should stop selling beer at half-time!!!

Hoards of people leaving their seats with around 38 minutes on the clock so that they can go and get their half-time pint. Does not help the atmosphere!!

All of this would be solved if the football was more enjoyable than a pint or god forbid we were allowed to drink in our seats.

The Fulham game seemed completely different for some reason, before the game people actually thought we could win, although obviously we didn’t, but Saturday everyone I went with were very pessimistic, and within 5 minutes of kickoff I knew why,we started on the back foot and let Bournemouth take the initiative,as others have said, it was a very passive performance.Passive performance, passive atmosphere follows.

Maybe that was due to our recent record against Fulham. Maybe it's because we've become accustomed to losing and not enjoying it from that perspective. Maybe we're just getting back to normal and this fairly is normal after a few games.

Whatever it is I'm fairly sure it's nothing to do with where people sit.

Watching the Swansea v Cardiff game yesterday. Swansea fans either side of the Cardiff contingent which created a good hostile atmosphere. Having moved all around Ashton Gate now stuck in a corner so far away from the away fans it’s difficult to get it going. Also some fans in that corner seem to have given up and who can blame them. Saturday was probably the worst it has been in there for me atmosphere wise.  We are currently in our worse run of results in our history at home. And that is certainly affecting fans. Unfortunately a hostile Ashton Gate is long gone.

I accept that some need away fans to get going and need that spice but that shouldn't really make a difference. It shouldn't all be about the banter IMO, it should be about getting behind your team.

We also had enough poor atmospheres when home and away fans were next to each other in the best stand for containing acoustics.

So many managers commented what a hostile atmosphere warnock Redknapp off the top of my head. Can also recall Dario Grady saying his players were scared to go near the corner flag.

Can't remember when Redknapp said it. Warnock said it after the Palace game I believe but I can remember games that season that had a really flat atmosphere and it was one of our best seasons in the last 30 years.

The reality is generally speaking we are big game players that find it hard to motivate ourselves for games against journeyman teams or those we perceive to be below us.

The fans need something even a crunching tackle or something but like you said apart from a few minutes second half when we actually threatened a goal there was literally nothing for the crowd to feed off.

    Absolutely.

The only point to make on top of that is that it was flat before the game as well, we haven't had anything to seriously get behind for a few seasons and the championship season is exhausting and we seem to already be exhausted by it as a group of fans.

we just need to win on Tuesday and hopefully the atmosphere will be better.

  15. I thought it was flat before the game on Saturday, it was flat when the game started and was flat until the second half when for about 5 mins we had a go and the crowd were singing JD.

Not having a go but the corner just didn't seem up for it let alone the rest of the ground.
