  1. I seem to remember that the £30m that Sainsburys were going to pay for the site, was a fair bit higher than it would be worth for housing. Add that Wimbledon's 9,000 capacity ground came in at around £3k per seat, that would make their 20,000 ground come in at £60-70 million. As they are not selling the ground out and they are losing money a new stadium could be a massive gamble. The only way I see this going is, get outline planning. Basic agreed funding and sell up. Roughly the same position as when Wael took over, they just have to find another enthusiastic Mug.
  2. That's what I'm asking. I know the amount of tickets was restricted, but at a time we would have to get tickets at a Services or on the coach before we left , they seemed be be able to make their own way over. I've never been there to see them lead from the coaches and I just wondered.
  3. Long version; Swansea City is disappointed to have to highlight anti-social behaviour among a minority of the club’s supporters before Saturday’s south Wales derby at Cardiff City Stadium. The staging of a fixture of this magnitude requires immense planning and operational resources from the two clubs, local coach companies, and South Wales Police. Despite the club issuing clear guidance to supporters in advance of matchday, there were several incidents of disruption and anti-social behaviour, particularly on supporter coaches put on to provide travel for fans attending the game. Unfortunately, staff on buses and drivers from various companies were subjected to verbal abuse which is unacceptable. There was also damage caused to a coach, internally and externally, for which the club will now incur considerable repair costs. These incidents are now being investigated, while there is also the risk that these instances will impact on the club’s ability to provide transport for supporters to attend future away games. These events were the actions of a minority, and the club would like to place on record its sincere thanks and gratitude to the majority of supporters who behaved impeccably and provided fantastic support to Russell Martin and the players in what was a memorable victory. ********************************************************************************** Question for the class. Have we ever made Swansea or Cardiff games bubble game at the gate? Like our Playoff game there, marched from the carpark straight in to the ground & tickets checked getting on the coach.
  4. and nothing to do with Sgt. Pepper. LDV - Sherpa Van - Freight Rover - Papa Johns - Johnsons Paint tin - pot - Trophy Cup. 40, 000 fans , that's a real 40k for any G*s visitors , making the short trip. From memory, not a great game and we made hard work of it, but a win's a win. and if you really want to, Sky's full match.
  5. I totally agree. It does give Chelsea time to mug off another Manager . What top Manager will fall for the the bull next ? After seeing what Potter went through , having players forced on him with no plan and expected to (literally) manage , surely the next one will not only want assurances, but get them in writing. After spending over half a billion pounds , how the hell can you need to sign a striker ???
  6. IMO , I don't think it is a correct strategy, specially the way we were doing it , at least not buying purely to sell. We were paying good money, sometimes too good, for players to try and make a profit. They weren't necessarily brought in with the team in mind. It can work, almost by accident like Brentford have it shown. They buy players to fit into their team and strategy . They then develop naturally and increase in value and are sold at great profit. We bought anyone and everyone , regardless of team shape or style and hoped to make a profit. Currently, a small fairly balanced squad with incoming players chosen to fill positions. The likes of Atkinson, Tanner and Mehmetti will develop and improve and value will rise. It has always got to be about the team. I think we are in a far better place now than with Ashton . I would say Ashton & Johnson, but you have to wonder ho much say Lee had in the recruitment.
  7. It's the used car salesman in him. Customer : What's the engine like M.A. : Look at the paintwork, that upholstery looks brand new , it has new tyres and comes with a 3 minute Warranty. Customer : 3 minutes ? M.A. : Did I mention the upholstery ? Bullshitter, bullshitting until he gets found out.
  8. Going Underground - The Jam
  9. Half Man Half Biscuit - The Light At The End Of The Tunnel (Is The Light Of An Oncoming Train)
  10. Rocket From The Crypt - On A Rope
  11. It would mean being strict and enforcing it over a run of games, they won't as they're intimidated and eventually go back to normal. `it's happened a few times when strict rules are brought in. I think most of us would support the idea, and it would mean a spate of bookings and sending offs, but so what. It would improve things and that's what we want.
  12. They have allowed players to get away with everything up to now, too late to try and put the Genie back in the bottle, but they need to start reigning it in a bit. Surrounding Refs , verbally abusing Linos and 4th officials they need to put a stop to it soon. This won't make any difference overall , but it might stop some players pushing another Ref.
  13. Looking at the fixtures I have With some interesting last day games. Palace V Forest Everton V Bournemouth Southampton V Liverpool Leeds V Spurs Leicester V WHU I wouldn't be upset with that. Forest V FFP would be good next year, Southampton is a good trip and I'd love to go to Everton before they move.
  14. I remember them both at the Gate in the old Div 1. Being asked the time by a cockney Spurs voice as I walked on the East End, and looking up to see the biggest mob of away fans I ever saw on there. Aways regret not going to more away games then, but I thought we would hang around longer.
  15. Just had a go at the calculator, now giving my woeful betting record this is probably miles out , but have a go yourselves. https://www.worldfootball.net/table_calculator/eng-championship/ Just realised I missed one game, and a big one in terms of relegation. The rescheduled Rotherham home game with Cardiff, shows how big it could be.
  16. Not sure what they expect. `he had no say in recruitment . The owner, Todd Boehly, has spent £300million in barely a year and has no idea or focus on what they want the players for. There is no direction or idea of how they set up or play. It seems system or shape is secondary to buying players, it is madness, and yet not a million miles from where we were under Johnson. You surely have to work closely with the Manager to set a shape and style, otherwise you are just hoping that things work out rather than trying to make things work out. Sorry Mods, just saw the other thread peas merge .
  17. Is that definite Dave ? Puts them a point outside the 'R' zone and yesterday was their first away point this year. Wouldn't miss them TBH. Form over last 6 QPR. - LLWLLL ROVRUM- WDWLLD CARDFF - WLWLDL READNG- LLLLDD with 6 points off HUD'FD - LDLDWW B'POOL - LDLWLL WIGAN - DLLDDW Form is the big thing, when you're down there you are scrabbling for points and the Huddersfield result looks massive now. Reading , QPR & Blackpool are the bottom 3 in the form table and they look like they all want to fall out of the League , QPR ( one win and 8 defeats in 9 ) are dropping like a stone. Hard to call but quite nice seeing so many teams worse than us.
  18. At one stage I was worried they would be going for the Playoffs and we would need points to stay up. Things have changed a bit.
  19. Lost count of how many times I've been there, usually had a good day/weekend. One game sticks out. Cup defeat bloody cold, not sure if it was a night game or just seemed like it. After we lost (3-1 ?) we were kept in for a bit and taken around/across the pitch to get out. After slagging anyone off for poor control during the game, it was all we could do to keep out feet walking on the pitch. One of those places I can't remember ever seeing us win. Just looked and I think it was FA Cup replay on a Monday in January . 0-0 FT 3-1 AET About 19 minutes in .
  20. Nige has consistently said that Wilson is basically missing a preseason . I do think we will see more of him before the end of the season but no chances will be taken. We don't know what reaction, if any there was after his last short appearance . He is there if needed, but I imagine Pearson will err on the side of caution. He always says the Players health is paramount .

    ANIS?

I didn't think he was great yesterday over all, but as I've been willing to give Tanner and Atkinson time to settle after the step up , I really have to remind myself to do the same for Mehmetti. I thought Jay was better support yesterday , than he has been , and there was signs Anis was willing to lay the ball off a little earlier. Having Pring as support would be a whole different thing. You could see later on when Pring (from CB) made 2 or 3 great bursting runs. Give the option of Cam supporting Anis and it will make up for him always wanting to come inside. He still is massively one sided, yes he did knock a couple of crosses in with his left but I hope he really works on his weaker foot. Look at Scott, his ability to go either way makes him hard to stop. If Mehmetti gets more comfortable going outside he will be a much bigger threat. Really I think the rest of the season is a bedding in opportunity for him, and Cornick to some extent. We have to be patient and he could be a real asset .
  22. Agree and I think you're right about their genuine feelings for the Club, but it still seems odd. Not saying they are bad owners, they ain't the Oystons , but 3% (about £90k ) isn't a great deal to someone worth £350m. Even if they wanted the money back, they could have done an interest free loan. Like I said I don't know how these things normally go, there may be a reason but I thought it an interesting point.
  23. I think I have a similar angle to you, but I thought that Carol aimed the elbow. I thought it was dangerous and I'd love to know the Refs thoughts as he deemed it a foul. Be interesting to see, if they put the full game up.
  24. I might be being unfair and if I could see it all back they could have been right, but ... The linesman Lansdown side seemed to be miles behind play all day. The chance Vyner headed clear the guy looked yards offside and the same for Mehmetti in the 2nd half, looked yards off. Bu the worst incident was when we were braking, the Ref pulled it back for our offside kick and I think that was from a goalkick. Mehmetti could have been sent off but he seemed to bottle that one and Carol's clear elbow on Pring was just ignored, though he saw enough to give a freekick. Suited the game I guess as Reading were the worst side I've seen this year.
  25. Gives them a chance to do the proper test events I guess. Spurs played a few games at Wembley at the start of the Season before moving I seem to remember.
