  1. Alex Crook earlier. Wonder what they or he would define as 'silly money'. In the case of West Ham, might FOMO supersede their going for established and proven experience, from here or overseas. Scott is ahead of all of them at respective stages of their career btw, all the names they were linked with.
  2. RIP Fellow Red. Condolences to his family and friends.
  3. A few Wolves fans suggested Cundle as some kind of cash plus player deal. Mins you a few think he is better than Scott so! ? They seemed to be pointing out some areas in which he apparently outperformed Scott.
  4. Final year of contract however, likewise Brownhill. Clubs will soon have a decision to make sell or bank on value on pitch and risk losing for free.
  5. There was interest but when you're in the PL and have Parachute Payments and a much laxer FFP as it was then there is little forcing a club to sell. Sure Newcastle were heavily interested under Howe in 2022 but Bournemouth needed him for promotion and once promotion no need to sell at all. They were just about within FFP and they clearly placed faith in keeping him taking them up. Burnley had some cash flow issues but Brownhill was deemed unsellable. Shows their quality.
  6. This is a bit of a reductionist view. IMO. Okay yeah that wasn't positive but football was much more affordable then, far less of a business and less overcomplicated, less hype and noise machine too probably. Yeah change had to happen but pricing etc, all-seater for the most part..aspects have gone too far. That is no criticism of the club here, our season ticket prices are quite competitive, the youth policy both player wise and encouraging young fans is excellent among many other good things but the last 30 years and probably longer. Something lost by the game as a whole.
  7. For me (generally but we can apply to Bournemouth I guess), it's a bit of a calculated risk a selling club needs to take, decide on however IMO a sell-on clause or targeted payment as part of a transfer...lovely to have and in some cases yeah it'll roll in, neatly banked but mostly budget as if it won't materialise and if/when it does you'll have a nice surprise or boost.
  8. I would hope not. Birmingham got into a tangle in 2018 doing just that. An FFP breach in the 3 year period to 2018 was likely, but they avoided Disciplinary action in season of the Projected Breach. All the same they informed the EFL that their solution was that Butland and Gray sell-on clauses would solve the issue at least for that season. They remained under a sort embargo as a holding pattern (signed Pedersen incorrectly hut that's another issue). 30th June came and went, EFL maybe gave them another month or so when haggling buy under full embargo. Maybe being a World Cup summer played in their favour a bit. By end of July, early August 2018 nothing had materialised and they were subsequently referred for an FFP breach.
  9. A lot that we know already, although one possibly slightly new development is that we know about Wolves but Brighton may also consider the price to be too high. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-12300995/Bournemouth-make-improved-bid-Bristol-Citys-Alex-Scott-15m-offer-rejected.html Bit more surprising in the context of their higher revenue, higher profitability, platform for young talent and no FFP concerns etc. Preference rather than being heavily restricted at this juncture probably.
  10. Read a bit more, and poster on there suggested that perhaps the £30m is cash flow loss or cash loss for the upcoming season not Profit and Loss. Although I would question how with the rise in revenue, the wage bill not exactly being enormous. I doubt that there are major transfer credits either by this point (doubt there are major transfer debtors either too btw).
  11. I do quite like our policy with the younger additions plus academy players but a little more flexibility in time. No over reliance on loanees is all excellent. Lots of people are short-termist I suppose, life..recency bias could go on. Could be a factor "If they're higher up the table maybe they'll make the top 6 soon..." Kinda thing. Bryan himself I've mentioned it on here a few times before, may or may not be credible but someone who lived near him in 2018 talking that final full season season, implied he wasn't that bothered about the club...I can't remember exact details 5 years ago
  12. We have the stronger infrastructure, youth setup, revenue streams and fanbase overall but...they have finished ahead of us is it 3 of 4 seasons or? Edit: Just checked, 5/6. If you have a connection with a club though don't give it the spiel about going abroad, a valid ambition and then go to Millwall!!
  13. One other thing. Took an hour to read the Sheffield Wednesday forum about varied issues and ideas. I could be wrong but there could be a misconception or two at play here on the thread on there..not digging out anyone but just trying to unpick it. 1) The suggestion that Sheffield Wednesday are paying Chansiri for the stadium. Maybe, maybe not. I took it as more like he was putting in X in loans or a good chunk of it being cash flow for the stadium payments but reclaiming Y in loans so drawing down the loan account over time but differently to how the thread suggested. It's the rent they are paying him/Sheffield 3 Limited. 2) The idea that repayments would impact upon FFP. Cash Losses yes, Cash Flow yes but not Profit and Loss- such Loan Repayments do not go in Profit and Loss or Before Tax! If there is interest attached that goes via Profit and Loss but loan repayments are Cash Flow and not Profit and Loss.
  14. Exactly it is. Like I say Preston hosting a Liverpool v Darmstadt game at Deepdale on the opening weekend of the EFL season feels a bit sketchy to me, had we been drawn there opening day may have put them in a bit of a bind.
  15. Thanks, this makes more sense. In theory the wages may have been slashed by 50 pct plus all of the departures but usually clubs come down in a stronger FFP position. Barnes as pure profit will help, sure there will be a few more too- strong squad still by the look of things . At least Leicester look likely to be trading. Cardiff are baffling me at the minute, are they hoping it falls their way in respect of (RIP) Sala.
  16. Little bit more on this, Matt Hughes. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-12300367/Lutons-opening-home-Premier-League-game-against-Burnley-postponed.html Luton requested it get switched to Burnley, Burnley declined.
  17. Leicester, although fair to say their fans on forum seem sceptical. How well they understand EFL FFP I question, £83m adjusted Upper Loss Limit to 2023-24. They are also set to sign a GK for £6m..a £92.4m pre tax loss in Year 1 or the present cycle ie 2021-22 to now.
  18. Two more midfielders linked with West Ham are Aramabat and Iwobi. (This is in addition to Alvarez, Ward-Prowse and Zakaria that I mentioned earlier). If Scott is to go there, there will be an awful lot of competition for him to overcome.
  19. Karlan Grant reportedly of interest to Cardiff on loan, how exactly is FFP being enforced for them. He won't be bargain basement. I don't think it'll take them up hut I really question their upcoming 3 years to 2023-24.
  20. Maybe I'm underestimating modern pitch preparation but 3 games in a week or 6 days on a pitch early season?
  21. They said having looked further that the start of the season clubs can request for varied reasons home or away opening game..whether it is granted is a different thing but unsure whether this is a legitimate reason really. No major deal but seems a bit odd. Should EFL games not take priority? As it happens away to us no big deal but..
  22. Given they have a League Cup game reportedly Tuesday 8th August at Deepdale and then Sunderland at home on Saturday 12th August this seems somewhat cavalier.
  23. Here is an interesting one along similar lines. The opening weekend on the season, we play Preston at home. That said same weekend, that same day Deepdale is hosting a Liverpool friendly, Liverpool are renting it out from Preston. What do we think of this. Did this factor in to Preston being granted an away game to us to begin?
  24. A genuine q on Chansiri btw. Does he not have other ideas on revenue boosting. I know cash flow vs revenue etc but external commercial opportunities, corporate revenue etc. I know local economies may differ but he's got to do better than he has surely? Matchday revenue, events? His strength seems to be get as much as you can put of the fans especially through ticket prices, season ticket prices, and some of his own company sponsors at Fair Value of course.
  25. SL's appraisal isn't entirely fair. For the first two months from mid to late January to mid to late March we were in the fight under O'Driscoll. The home record was strong! Some goals were flowing, Fortress Ashton Gate (for 2-2.5 months). The away form was a let-down to say the least and what I believe was a key turning point was Wolves away. Wolves away, a big relegation 6 pointer mid March 2013. Think a priceless 1-0 lead turned to a disastrous 2-1 loss within the space of 2 minutes. It's a shame as our run-in was not so bad..home games vs Sheffield Wednesday on April Fool's Day, a final home game v Huddersfield at end of April and between that tough but not impossible games v Birmingham and Bolton.Charlton away on the last day too. One point from those 5..terrible terrible return.
