It's not racist to point something out. I'm not racist but... classic racist. Only joking, it's obvious that a large percentage of the poor in Bristol, or London, are of an ethnic background. This is probably a whole different argument but it is likely to be poor, and possibly ill-educated, carrying out these acts. Colour of course has nothing to do with mentality of people. If these people had been taught a good education, had parents in their life who gave them proper discipline none of these would have happened. Too many ghetto areas that breed this kind of behaviour. Probably not PC to say it, but I don't give a toss, scum breeds scum. Its not their fault, they don't know any better because the government and society has failed them, we have been too weak and liberal and now its biting us on the ass. Too late now, its a lost generation with no discipline, no jobs, no future and no money. I'm not trying to justify these actions, I'm just trying to understand what would drive you to this. I can guarantee you, that if you handed one of these people a job on a plate they'd turn it down. They've got no desire to work or have the prestige of a decent job, they want things as easily as possible and they want it now, so if it involves criminal activity, then so be it. I think the reason why race is an issue, is more in relation to the breakdown of the social make-up - which particularly has hit the black community of Britain. You'd hardly call Trevor Phillips, the Chairman of the Commission on Racial Equality, anti-black but he wrote a brutal piece about 10 years ago about the ticking time-bomb that was the 'Absent Black Father'. A frightening statistic of children who have a black father have grown up on those estates without him present. So it;'s not the fact he is black, its the fact he has had no role model - or if he has, often its been a shite one. The fact so many of these looters and rioters in London are black is more to do with this than anything I think. Credit to Phillips for seeing it coming a decade ago. It's one of the news items on sky news's ticker, police choppers have been flying around all afternoon. The manager of our oceana has been keeping everyone updated via facebook as to where the mob are going as he has a good view of the city from his office and has been out and about as well.
