Did you know it costs more to execute someone than to inprison them for life? But I think having such devastating punishments would limit the amount of these cases. I think the point others are trying to make is that in your world Sam Hallam (he's the guy with learning difficulties who spent 7 years inside for a murder he didn't commit and was released recently) and the Cardiff 5 (they are the guys who spen something like 10 years inside for a murder in Cardiff and there was a subsequent inquiry into police corruption) would all have been slowly tortured to death by you long ago. Even William was taught to fly a Helicopter he was never ever going to fail the course was he . They will now all go on the Summer holiday to Sandringham for two months . Having written that - and after Prince William gave a long overdue official government tribute to the sacrifice of RAF Bomber Command in World War 2 (they lost 56,000 in the war) - I really wouldn't mind seeing Prince William as King of England and I'm very far from being a Royalist. Even Sir Winston Churchill himself shyed away from mentioning the fantastic efforts of RAF Bomber Command to help win the war in his Victory in Europe speech during 1945. Then along comes Prince William with the courage and integrity to defy the politically correct brigade and make a long overdue tribute to the fallen servicemen of RAF Bomber Command. Bless him. It really annoys me when people say about the money wasted by the queen. Would you rather president Cameron and president clegg? No thanks + 1 (and millions around the world) Angers me too ! I reckon 'King Makers' still exist in this country, those with the power and aristocratic background to decide who should be King. This situation existed when Edward VIII was made to abdicate in 1936 to make way for his brother George VI. The stress of World War 2 made King George VI very ill and he was already a very highly strung individual before he became KIng by all accounts. George VI died young in 1952 as a result and that's the main reason Elizabeth II has been Queen for so long. If we are to continue with a monarchy then William as King would be much preferable to Charles as King. To be honest, anything would be preferable to Neil Kinnock as King or Catherine Ashton as Queen or the likes of Cameron, Clegg, Brown or Blair as UK President. But not slaves, they all get paid, many get accomodation. Do you work? If so, do you work in an office? Do you clean it? If you have a canteen at work, do you cook your food, or does someone else do it? They are in a position of privilege, if you do not like living in a monarchy, there are enough republics in the European union. I was born in a monarchy, I am pretty proud of most of our history, and have no gripe what so ever, they have never done (recent royal family) anything to hurt the country. Many many people are in a job because of the Royals, I.e. the armed forces, if we ever became a republic, I can assure you there would be more cuts to those services than there is now. The only downside to our monarchy is the cost of its upkeep, most if not all is paid of by visitors to this country. Not directly, but indirectly, by purchasing alsorts of things in this country. And if we like it or not, one of the main decisions to visit Great Britain is because of the royals. I cannot for one reason see any reason to get rid of them. They no longer cut peoples heads of, or force their will on the people. The cost of the royal family is minimal compared to what the government allowed the bankers get away with. The support to charitable organisations is massive by Charles , not just supporting them but creating them ! Andrew has spend most of his adult life by serving in the RN and then traveling the world pushing British technology, I bet many a bristol aviation worker has kept their jobs by Andrew traveling the world sellling British technology ! You've summed up how (I hope) a lot of people feel. I am proud of the flag, the Queen, the country and the 1000 years its take to make Britain great, but I am also aware that if I didn't like it I could move elsewhere and that there are many people around the world that would do an awful lot to swap.
