Old bill would’ve been peed off after the game so probably went a bit more heavy-handed than they may usually do.

Reason they’d be peed off is coz a number of City holed up in a main Millwall pub early doors. No one has done that for decades at Millwall. They came unstuck in the end after a jolly good showing but Millwall numbers proved too much and a few City were injured.

The old bill were too busy trying to kettle innocent fans at London Bridge, whilst the real hooligans slipped their net and had a proper old school row in their boozer. Plod incompetence.

Sheffield United tried - but never ventured actually into Bermondsey. One lost his false leg!!

All I did was say that I was nipping over to my office in the City and wasn't going to the underground.  This was true.  I was let through with no trouble at all.  Mind you, I was on my own, no colours on, don't have a strong Bristol accent, and basically made it seem as though I really really wasn't with the city fans and was just caught up in it.

I had to do this at QPR years ago to avoid getting shoved on the tube even though we drove up.

One of the Bristol chaps who didn't heed my advice of not drinking in Bermondsey, but to instead enjoy a stroll along the Southbank & take in the sights...An unfortunate member of the 40

Bermondsey Beer mile wasn't away friendly then...?

(I did read a few days ago Met Police football on Twitter, intimated to Sunderland fans that it was though).

On a serious note, heard some members of this (quite frankly) sucidie mission took enough of a beating to end up in Guys (where I was born!).

Not sure about that. I heard all made it to the game, albeit with a few dazed heads, cuts & bruises and some broken fingers!

Saw an ambulance leave the area where our unconsious chap from the video above was - but who knows.

It was a pretty mental mission imo - but fair play if they made the game and enjoyed themselves!

The Bermondsey Beer Mile is fine, if I'd ike I said you go on it as beer lovers, nit football fans. It's not actually pubs either, it's mostly micro breweries in industrial estates or under railway arches. So, not like going on an actual pub crawl around the Blue!

Cheers.

That cleared that up, may have a look next time I'm up London.

3 of us in the Barrowboy and Banker, kept a low profile, we left it too late unluckily- in the sense of we got to the train, and a train was held back or cancelled or something (presumably part of police/BTP planning) and we missed first 15 mins.

Could also, given it was a Southern train that was missing, have been due to their pisspoor service in recent years, constant strikes etc. Makes FGW look like rail company of the year!

Not done on police planning advice .

I can confirm we were not peed off after the game as you so beautifully put it.

we also did not kettle fans at London Bridge .

There were large police numbers there to prevent any further disorder , fans could go where they wanted and were not controlled in any kettle arrangement after the game

Sorry, that's not true. I saw lots of supporters leave the group as myself and young lad did but i also saw police push people back into the group and told they couldn't leave.

What is the problem ?  If the Police want to boil a kettle for a cuppa then why complain ?

@JulieH am I correct with this my beloved ?

PS: you weren't pitch side at Millwall as promised. I had even changed my socks !!

I did try , unfortunately a little busy with disorder prematch!

I have even briefed the evidence gatherer who was going to get some live footage of the shirt !

Where?

the only directions were given post match at the rear of the stands of trains to the left and car travelling fans to wait 10-15 mins until the gate was then opened .

What matters most ?  A trifling amount of disorder or my shirt ?  I was devastated by the amount of abuse the locals gave me because of my shirt which I wore just to prove my love for you !!

To be fair i've seen Millwall supporters laying on the ground in Bristol. If people want trouble they'll get it pretty much anywhere. Great noise Saturday inside the ground. Proper football club atmosphere. Hopefully they'll keep going if your good run comes to an end....

It was brilliant.  I must say I spend a lot of time in London on weekends and I could really get into watching Millwall.  Great crowd, great characters, great atmosphere.

To stop any further rumours this is the account I can give of the day

it is correct a group of Bristol city drank in the queen Victoria pre match . Police were then needed to be in place at this location to stop attacks on it from millwall fans drinking nearby .

This group were escorted to the ground using considerable policing numbers, horses and dogs.

Another group were further involved in disorder close by whereby injuries were received by Bristol based Males, hospital treatment was declined. As a result of this incident 5 millwall supporters were arrested and 2 Bristol city fans were arrested.

Postmatch the policing operation therefore concentrated on keeping these groups apart again hence the large numbers of police at London Bridge area.

Ebquiries are continuing with cctv of the incident being examined by metpol and they anticipate further arrests to be made.

I will try and update as much as I can but it is an ongoing enquiry so limited .

I actually thought the atmosphere was a bit tame - as it was diluted a bit by the more casual fans. Perhaps I'm getting old and miserable, but prefer the usual 11,000 Wall fans. Or bizarrely, the real hardcore - went to Millwall v Birmingham City in the League Cup 2nd round back when they were in the PL. It was the first meeting after the play-off riot, only 6,500 Millwall showed up and 1,000 Brumies. But what an atmosphere - as it was pretty just all the blokes off the local estates in our end & their proper hooligans in the away end. One journalist in his write said it was one of the most hostile atmospheres he had ever experienced and the low crowd actually made it strangely even more intimidating.

As for Wall fans laying on the ground in Bristol -  I'm guilty of that. Sister moved there and had some good nights out there over the years.
