Some of the cross-country trips in the South division are as long as anything that Gloucester or Bishop's Stortford will do in the North, e.g Dover/Braintree to play Truro (who are playing in Plymouth next season).

That's true, but Truro have Torquay and Taunton to give a derby flavour and Dover have Maidstone, Tonbridge and Eastbourne within easy striking distance.

There isn't a sensible away around it, other than to have leagues of uneven size, which would make promotion to a national league a bit inconsistent.

Into double figures now the number of teams that are appealing against the league that they have been placed in

Bishops Stortford being the latest

Where have you seen all the teams that have appealed? Anyone local? Guessing Mangotsfield will be one.

I know that from my part of the world Northwich Victoria and Winsford have. Both moved sideways from the North West Counties League to the Midland League.

Hang on…so Harrow Borough, if I’m reading right, don’t want their reprieve from relegation that they’ve got through Met Police taking a voluntary drop as they’re currently in the same division as last year??

I knew someone who was active in Truro Supporters' Club and also used to drive their minibus to all the away games.

He is also a bit of a, shall we say, "numbers man".

He had worked out the total season mileage for Truro and then compared it with what it would have been if they were in the Northern League.

It was fewer miles in the Northern League.

People don't realise that Truro, 284 miles, is further from London than is Durham, 280 miles. Or that Yeovil is pretty much halfway between London and Truro.

In the Southern the marathon trips were to Kent and East Anglia, there weren't many short trips west of Bristol.

In the Northern there were a lot of relatively short trips to the Midlands.

Edit: this was when Truro was playing in Truro at Treyew Road, they are currently homeless and playing at Plymouth Parkway, just off the A38.

I saw them play at Redditch a few years ago on a Monday night, they'd brought a minibus full of fans, plus there were one or two who lived fairly locally.

Correct

I guess the financial strain on a club and ensuring that the club continues to exist is more important

Though makes me wonder how much of a fight was put up to try not to be relegated

Gloucester City have just appointed former Blackburn keeper Tim Flowers as manager.

From memory, he got Solihull Moors in the promotion mix when he was there.

Will be a tough gig as Gloucester are going back to a part-time model to address financial losses.

It's non league cup final day at Wembley today. Sadly no local teams involved.

Ascot have just beaten Newport Pagnall 1-0 to lift the FA Vase (used to be the FA Amateur Cup). It was mentioned that one of the Newport players has scored 38 goals this season.

Kicking off 4.00pm it's Halifax V Gateshead in the FA Trophy Final. That's for professional teams outside the EFL.

Both games on BT sports channel 408.

Financial strain is the biggest killer of step 4-5 clubs. They are at the bottom of the FA Cup prize list unless they have a miraculous run. FA Vase pays a pittance until round 4 and some clubs pay ridiculous amounts to players.

Hellenic League, some clubs had a wage bill of £2,000 a week…. (In total, not per player)

This leaves some of the smaller clubs having to maybe pay players a little more to keep their assets that far down the pyramid.

However, I reckon the main cause of this argument against being reprieved stems down to players not fancying it. It’s astonishing how a string of bad results means players all of sudden aren’t available. Maybe the club thought, what’s the point in staying up, losing each week and losing players interest. Go down, compete and have a chance to bring through younger talent whilst everyone’s enjoying it?

I’ve had this argument with a few other Bristol and District/Combination managers over the years. (I don’t mean any disrespect here) some clubs finish a season with 3 points from 20+ games and a -80 goal difference. Then some teams win the league by December. I appreciate people will be upset by it, but a complete restructure to even out the teams that struggle and the teams that fly should make for 7 competitive divisions and hopefully we won’t have as many teams folding each year. There’s no enjoyment either side of a 10-0 win/loss. Where it could take 2/3 years to play at your level.

As a teenager, I played for Cardiff City juniors in Church of England under 16. God knows why that was the team name as a guy living in Stapleton ran it.

Big wins and defeats were there a plenty. We lost one game 31-2 and I scored the two.

Neither side enjoyed it!

Just bumping this back up for those that have an interest in the non league scene.

Aaron Sainsbury who was Paultons players player and supporters player of the season as left the club. Wouldn't be surprised to see him rock up at Yate.

Another keeper to have left is Ben John at Manor Farm. They have since signed on Frankie Phillips (son of Steve) as there number 1. Decent keeper saw him a few times for Chilcompton Sports last season.

Paulton now have there new keeper, Sam Jepson who starred for Corsham in there run to semi final of the FA Vase last season.

Following the departure of Shrivenham FC from the Hellenic Premier Division, Mangotsfield United will now remain in the Hellenic Premier Division for the 2023/24 season (they were initially placed in the Western League).

I`ve often thought that, given the way our road network is structured, that an east/west split would be better than north/south.

The Minor Counties Cricket did that. Suffolk and Norfolk now play Northumberland and Lincs instead of Cornwall and Devon. Much easier to get to

Bishop’s Stortford have lost their appeal against their placement in the National League North.

The club will compete in the National League North for the 2023/24 season.

*****

Stansted FC have lost their appeal against their sideways move into the Spartan South Midlands League.

*****

Marlow have successfully appealed against their sideways movement out of the Isthmian League South Central division to the Southern League Central division.

The club will therefore compete in the Isthmian League South Central division next season.

****

Winsford United lost their appeal against their sideways move into the Midland Premier League.

As a result, the club has asked to be relegated down to Step 6 (the North West Counties Division 1).

If Marlow has successfully appealed has someone else had to move?
