I think it was 1990 the year we played Chelsea

We beat Chelsea in the 4th round then eventually list to Cambridge in the 5th round.

it felt like we should have made the quarters as having beat Chelsea we were a league above Cambridge and played them at home.  Opportunity missed big time.

Found this on a Spurs site. Can't comment on anything as I wasn't allowed to go to either game as it was school night.

The 1st leg in Bristol was the first big occasion I saw as a 9 year-old. Midweek under floodlights with cigarette smoke swirling around in the air. I used to stand in the enclosure, right down the front and it was magical. We didn't even get on tv as itv showed highlights of both legs of the other semi because Man Ure were playing

Seeing as its midweek then anyone at home, but Spurs away would also be good as it will be another ground ticked off the list!!

As far as says "midweek" would this be any day from Tuesday to Thursday to allow television coverage?

Question for the stattos. When was the last time we played live on a terrestrial TV channel?

I’m 39 and the only time I can remember was a random league game away at Swindon around 2000, on HTV? But I think it was only on in our local region.

So when was the last time we played on national terrestrial television?!

Good chance it’ll happen if we get a plum draw.

Was it against West Ham in the Cup (Sunday 25th January 2015 on BBC1)

Lost 2-0 away to Spurs in the next  round.

11th March 1967, my first away game!

Jimmy Greaves put Spurs 1-0 up. Tony Ford missed his first ever penalty, ref said retake, Chris Crowe (who we had heard blasted them) side footed it about five yards wide!

Greaves showed everyone how to take a penalty five minutes from time.

?

Oh yeah! The free scarf game. Had forgotten that one. So not quite the dim and distant past I thought it was.

Yep, the game we also let them bring their bubble machine ?

That’s right.   There was a massive fuss about it and then when it came to it it was like something from a kids birthday party!

Yep, it was pretty pathetic thinking back!

Wasn't it more of a case that the BBC thought it would "look good for the cameras?"

I believe we have been live on NATIONAL terrestrial TV just four times to date. The 1989 League Cup semi final second leg v Nottingham Forest on ITV, a league match in 2010 (I think) on BBC 1 when we beat WBA 2-1 and the FA Cup games in 2013 away at Tamworth (2-1 win) on ITV and in 2015 v West Ham also on BBC 1.

Other games on ITV were just shown on HTV and whatever region the opponents hailed from but not nationally

Superb answer!

But why was a league match v WBA on BBC1?

They really don’t look non-league ! And after attending all of those games vs Wrexham and Dixie McNeil back in the 70’s , I really wouldn’t want them away from home in round 5 ?

They're not really non-league at all in some ways. Can't say I'm super knowledgeable, but pretty sure their budget, squad and facilities are all possibly League One let alone League Two.

The league match v WBA in 2010 was the season where the BBC bought rights to show EFL matches and experimented with Championship matches live on Sunday afternoons. I recall West Ham being on a lot.  But they didn't get good enough viewing figures to persist.

Ah right, I don’t remember that. Cheers

JP and Gabbiadon both had the tie all over when Wrexham took the lead.

They only had to look at the start of this game to know a goal can be scored in 1 minute from kick off.

“Surely there’s not enough time for them to come back from this” was a weird comment from JP…in the 85th minute.
