Popular Post Silvio Dante
Geoff is a genuinely great guy, and a top broadcaster. In lockdown, my under 9s team were lucky enough to be live on Radio Bristol and he was brilliant with them. My son then met him at Yate when he was broadcasting the Yeovil game - busy as hell but had time for everyone. Just one of the good guys. Be a sad time when we hear the last “My guest, your guest…” Edited April 11, 2023 by Silvio Dante

Popular Post Davefevs
Just a top man. Met him once at Charlton Farm, introduced myself as “Fevs from Twitter” and it was as if he’d known me for ages. Always a little shout out for my son too. Biggest compliment is the universal acceptance from City fans. He will be sorely missed, big boots to follow. All the best “Pal” if you’re reading, Did I read recently BBC cutting back on regional programmes? 21
Red-Robbo
6 minutes ago, Kid in the Riot said: "But first, let's get the latest on those roads" He may also be the top man for calling people Top Man. He's the same character you hear on the air when he's not on the air, Geoff. One thing that I really liked about the man was his total commitment to local radio serving local sports fans. He knew some big names in the game, but was as happy talking to guys managing clubs far down the league structure.

Though the implications for local sports coverage haven't been made clear. From what I've read, the expectation is that commentaries will continue, but it may well be the case that the other stuff like SOTC bites the dust. AppyDAZE
A sad day for local sport. The guy really did know his stuff about the area and became like an adopted Bristolian. A genuine and lovely guy, gonna be missed by fans of all the clubs in the region. Good luck, Geoff! Dr Balls
Always very straightforward on the radio. Also seems very humble and down to earth - none of the “Big I am” as a former pro on local radio. The fact that so many of us can so easily look past his Gas past is a measure of the man in itself. Also good knowledge of the local non-league and grassroots game around Bristol that will be very hard to replace. 8 minutes ago, Red-Robbo said: They are. Though the implications for local sports coverage haven't been made clear. Perhaps Geoff smelled which way the wind was blowing there.... I am sure you’re right. Regional programmes only on “local” BBC stations after 6pm might spell the end for all those early evening sports shows.

lenred
What a shame. A cornerstone of West Country sports broadcasting, so knowledgable but a proper ‘Everyman’ as well. Will be sorely missed. All the very best pal!
freezer
Sad news. Always enjoyed listening to him and having a chat and bit of banter in the past when I called in to Radio Bristol. I wish him all the best for the future. As others have said, for a Gas head he was allright. Geoffrey going, Paul O'Grady gone.......bugger!
Popular Post luke_bristol
His interview with Mark Ashton after Holden was appointed was absolutely stellar sports broadcasting, top drawer stuff. Geoff had him (and Ashton to the point here) on toast and it was outstanding interviewing and radio. For someone who was a Gas player to have gained nigh on universal appreciation and respect from City fans is pretty unique and demonstrable of the man. He will be missed for sure. @Shtanley surely ‘a Cider With’ candidate now by way of sign off? Edited April 11, 2023 by One Team

The Gasbuster
A great bloke; and an excellent broadcaster. A much better broadcaster than footballer ! I remember shouting abuse at him from the enclosure when he was “playing” for the sags one derby game. He looked straight at me, winked and then laughed . Sorry Geoff (only about 35 years too late !) 3
