Old music you're listening to

City Rocker

Recommended Posts

I've just rediscovered my sprightly young 'theme tune' during a YouTube jaunt, which reminded me of when I first got the the internet, well over 25 years ago.

The first web search I ever made (on Netscape Navigator IIRC) was 'Bristol City'. I discovered some weird and wonderful places, like CybeReds, the Bristol City Net Centre, and a very primitive version OTIB. My second search was The Clash, where I found some equally oddball sites, including one called Clash City Rockers.

What all these static, read-only Web 1.0 pages had in common were rudimentary message boards where visitors could comment and discuss their subject, but you couldn't sign up and register a user name. But people did come up with clever pseudonyms, which they would type in afresh, each time they posted a message.

And so my first internet nickname was born from my first two searches on the 'information superhighway'. Of course, we've all moved on now.

Watched Record on , the Specials documentary the other day, brilliant and lovely to see Terry Hall , Horace Panter and Lynval Golding chatting away.  I lost interest just before the 2nd album after being mad about the first one , and seeing them at the Locarno . I didn't even know about the album they released in 2019 , watching it had the old feel of around that first album. I've ordered Encore and love this versions of lunatics .

Have a friend who is leaving France to return to Scotland. She doesn't want to take her CD's as she uses Spotify etc these days. Asked me if I would take them to which I agreed. Now have a further 3000 cd's in boxes that I am trying to wade through.  Currently have some accoustic compilations in the car and am going through Woodstock & Glasto at home.

Hi Slarti,

I wonder whether you or any of the ‘old music’ aficionados on here might be able to help - luckily I checked my punctuation before posting, as I referred to you initially as an ‘old’ music aficionado 😉, so you can thank Miss Taylor for that.

Do you have any idea who the drummer was on the Amen Corner link I posted earlier on this thread?

I showed the video to my mother when I was last across, but she had no recollection - understandably.

I just remember she was always very keen on that ‘lovely, cheeky looking drummer’ and wondered whether he remained with AC or moved on.

I believe it was a bloke called Dennis Bryan (sp?) he later joined the Bee Gees .

Wow.

Your spelling of his name is correct and, as you suggested, he did indeed join the Bee Gees - in 1973!

He was their drummer during their heyday.

With thanks and acknowledgment to WIKI.
