FA Youth Cup - Match Thread

Recommended Posts

A very Pearson win, without wishing to derail the thread - outplayed but no guts, no glory.

And one or two who have a chance of better things by the looks of it. Interestingly, none being the forwards our technical director creams himself over. Imo.

Yep. I'm no tactical whizz but I couldn't see any similarity between that performance - fast breaking, long balls to the wings - and the pedestrian slow build style of the first team.

Both Yeboah ( holding and linking play) and Morrison were good. Not sure what game you were watching.

Swindon's forwards infinitely superior in terms of technique in tight spaces and being able to beat a man. Lots of effort from ours and being able to run fast in a straight line (wow!) but that was it.

Yeboah's hold up play is non existent, even at this level, although our crude style ofbplay didn't help.

He had an appalling touch immediately before passing to set up the goal - a touch that would have seen us lose possession at first team level. His best contribution was winning a free kick outside our box on 85 mins when we were under the cosh which says it all.

The lad has an excellent attitude which gives him half a chance but he's miles off first team football. The lad who came on at centre forward for Swindon looked twice the player in the brief time he was on the pitch.

Morrison and Nelson are, at this stage, just quick.

So which game were you watching?

Duncan, Anderson, Slowey and Meerholz are the ones to keep an eye on.

Imo.

Yeboah didn't look out of place when he made a quite a few  appearances for the first team via Pearsons reign. He was quick, direct and worked hard for the team and a pain for the opposition. In fact there was a buzz of expectation from the fans when he came on as sub.

What a shocking game of football, whoosh ball from both teams, if that's the future it's grim.

Swindon 7 stood out.

Really disappointed leaving the stadium that was absolute dross

Thats a bit harsh.  It was much more exciting than watching than the first team passing it sideways and backwards for 20 minutes.

To answer those who asked: yes, Liam Manning was there in the directors box - as was Chris Hogg, Pat Mountain, Jon Lansdown and Marina Dolman amongst others.

Marina Dolman probably the most sensible of the lot.

Glad I went along.

Campbell-Slowey & Meerholz the pick for me but very much a team effort & won through grit against a side definitely our equal.

Didn’t realise for a while that James was the lad who played at Cardiff in Nige’s last game, no criticism of him to say several others looked at least his standard.

Can certainly see why Anderson has trained with the first team.
