I didn't even know we'd qualified,we seem well behind the pace when I last looked at the table and I assumed Somerset had as they were going along quite merrily in the group (genuinely surprised) ?  All we seem to get on the Beeb website is the ****** 100  !

We had a tournament of 2 halves.

When I saw the schedule for the rest of the tournament I wasn’t too disappointed. A semi final tomorrow and Tuesday and the final at Trent Bridge on Thursday, a day nighter. What a shambles.

Something to bear in mind when one consideres that recent defeats to Northants and now Leics were against what were pretty much their first elevens.

Whatever happens tomorrow, we have blooded, with varying degrees of success, a number of youngsters, which can only bode well for the main goal, the County Championship.

Unbelievable talent. I was thinking from now on we should ditch expensive overseas signings unless they are exceptional talent like Babar for T20s.

We’ve got more than enough talent home grown, too many times in the past an average overseas player has kept a local lad out of the team and gained us nothing

  3. 3 photos from yesterday.

A forever young James Hildreth ducks a bouncer.

The 2 George’s celebrate Bartlett’s century, the other George, Thomas, is so new he doesn’t even have a name or number on his shirt.

Another big crowd to watch pretty much 2nd XI cricket

  4. A great day in the sun despite the result, brilliant to see the 2 George’s bat, one in desperate need to get back in form, the other came as a shock to see on the team sheet.

You can forgive Leonard’s bowling, though not sure why Brooks didn’t play. But MDL had a really bad day, just as I was warming to him.

Oops, sorry, I seem to have wandered into asschat again :laughcont: , but that wasn't why I called .

Just looked at the 100 table and it appears our "local " team are not doing very well, indeed they are next to bottom with only the truly lamentable Middlesex Franchise below "us" in the table.

Well ,all I can say is............."Oh dear, how sad, never mind " ! ?

Welsh Fire aren't local, they're a different country for goodness sake.

I think the Birmingham lot are our locals, especially with Smeed staring

Smeed’s wrist and timing is unreal.  When you consider Somerset have a potential batting line up of Banton, Abell, Lammonby, Smeed and Goldsworthy.. that alongside Davies and Hildy is quite something.

It’s really weird, Somerset are producing the best team the county had ever seen, yet the way cricket is run now we’re never going to see the cricket in a way we used to.

For these 6-8 weeks we’re in now they should all be playing almost non stop but there’s 4 or 5 that won’t have played at all. It’s unlikely kids will ever watch red ball cricket in the school holidays like I did. Madness

But as you say, such an exciting time for the county, well done Somerset…….with a big help from Devon…..and a little help from Cornwall

Admittedly, I have only seen WS on the Somerset streams, but Goodness, he looks a wonderful talent.

À propos poor old (young) Tom Banton, I assume you saw that he was out LBW for a duck.

He must be seething with anger at the ECB, dragging him away just as he was coming in to some form and leaving him in the dressing room.

    I would be furious.

Yes they’ve been really unfair with him since covid started. Now Overton and Leach are facing not playing any cricket in the height of summer. It’s a short career, I don’t know how missing a chunk of high summer to carry drinks when you’re in your prime can be anything but scandalous

Only a surprise for those who have never seen him bat for Somerset.

Good Luck to the young man, obviously, but I had visions of him and Tom Lammonby starring in the RL cup final amongst their fellow young Somerset debutants.

Even us Somerset fans haven’t seen much of him live, I don’t know off hand but maybe 2 matches played in front of Somerset fans? One in which he played very well but 2nd fiddle to Lammonby.

Let’s hope his progress doesn’t stutter like poor old Tom Banton’s has.

We’re desperately low on players compared to some sides like Northants who have very few involved in test and hundred.  I think we need one more win to go through.

Yes true, I'm going Tuesday, hopefully another home win will be enough.

It would be good to have Ben Green back but not sure when he will be

  10. I can remember Andy Caddick saying he needed a good 100 overs of red ball cricket before he was firing on all cylinders. He would have hated what Broad and Anderson have had to do the last month, ie nothing

it really is time for a cricket revolution

Wow. Welsh fire have smashed their way to an impressive 121 from their 100 balls.

    Massive.

It’s odd how this so called simplified form of the game overall has lower runs per ball than T20s, takes more minutes per ball than T20 and has lower crowds.

And Glos will be ok too !

Yes I’m sure Glos will be ok too…………..but they’ll still have to play within a few hundred meters of the scrapyard that is the Mem’ no wonder they can’t match Somerset’s crowds ?
