Hindsight, of course, is a wonderful attribute, but I wonder whether just a little bit of nous might have convinced us to try and play out as many overs as we could this evening, if just to eke out a few more runs in case a first innings lead does intervene - there are now only three days for three innings, not accounting for rain/bad light interruptions.
A first innings lead might well prove to be the winning moment for whoever gets it.
Our brilliant seam attack have got a look of unfinished business about them. I can't see them letting Essex have this one.
-
Unbelievable luck for Essex. The floodlights are actually doing there job, crap decision
-
I'm going for a Josh Davey 5fer
-
Essex will need to score a hundred more than any county has scored against us this year to take an all important lead.
I'm not saying they can't do it but it just shows how brilliant our bowling attack has been.
Will miss Jamie O though
-
How did we throw away that? Not having a go at Sale because he's young and very inexperienced............... WHICH IS WHY YOU DON'T GIVE HIM THE FINAL OVER WITH ALL AT STAKE
-
When Bartlett got us to 200 on Saturday I said that was enough runs with our bowling attack, my tweet was read out on the commentary.
Well, for all those thinking I was talking nonsense, this is the best all round bowling attack I've seen in over 40 years of watching and that's without Bess and Leach and Gregory for 2 games
I know we haven't played against the best teams so far and will adjust that total when we do.......to 250

Yep and to compound things even more- the weather back in April/May when the large chunk of the CC is played was bloody glorious. Very few frustrations from the rain would have been apparent. Heck we haven’t even got Jack or Dom playing either
I know, the whole episode is so Somerset, can there be a sporting team with less luck than we have? If you wrote a book about just this century so far it would seem far fetched.
-
I'm not sure I've seen such a dominant Somerset team in my 40 odd years of watching them.
Even when the top order have failed you just know the tail will wag and with this seem attack 150 is usually enough anyway.
I genuinely believe we would have overcome our 12 point deduction and won the championship this year
-
How many times has the Somerset tail wagged in recent years?
The way we've been bowling that could be a very good total
-
Wolves season ticket holders have been asked to fill in a form saying who you attend matches with.
Presumably family or people in your bubble will all sit together therefore taking up less space as no distancing needed.
Must admit it's going to be a logistical nightmare for clubs

In 6 innings against us so far this season the opposition average 129, so we could easily have declared as soon as Jamie hit his ton, it's not as if we could lose, we still had s 2nd innings if needed.
It's fine margins and we don't help ourselves sometimes......often

Should we have declared sooner yesterday?
Yes, definitely with the forecast, plus none of these teams bar maybe Worcester are capable of scoring bug runs against this Somerset attack.
Having said that we didn't have a stroke of luck today with the weather, that last cloud burst which cost us the game seemed to have blue sky all around the ground but not above it. Plus they could have easily eeked out a few mire overs if they really wanted to.

Played yesterday great to get back out. Drenched by the end mind!
I think I've played 8 rounds since we were allowed back, more than I normally would in that space if time.
I think when this is over everyone will be saying yes to every invitation and we'll be grabbing all the fun things in life with both hands

We're going to get in the play offs, win the final for the first time, get in the premier league for the first time.....
...and it'll all be behind closed doors and none of us wil be there to see it, just our luck.

Do we have any information as to the people in the U.K. who’ve sadly died. 6 now I understand.
Information such as, how do we think they contracted it? Had they all been to China or Italy or other infected area recently, or had any of their friends or relatives been in such places.
It would be beneficial, I believe, for the public to know HOW these people contracted it.
We seem to be lacking any true, useful information.Agree. When I was in Singapore recently the media would produce a family tree type illustration, they hadn't had any deaths so it was of everyone who had been tested positive.
You could check out every cluster, most cases came in clusters, like churches, a business convention and a couple of large workplaces. Surprisingly very few if any got it by just going about every day life, like commuting or shopping.
The whole of Singapore was a model of how things should be done a number of experts have said. A bit wierd to get back to Heathrow and not see or speak to a single airport official between the plane and my car. Just an automated passport machine.

Although I'm 100% opposed to the tournament I don't blame the players one but dating a big payday.
Some excellent and unexpected contracts for some Somerset players, Gregory and Abell getting £100k contracts must give them a huge boost. Banton is just printing money atm. As for Eddie Byrom getting picked on the back of 198 career T20 runs and 1 decent innings is remarkable.
Well done to them and the 3 others but remember, do your best to make sure your county survives

and Cardiff isn't interested in supporting Glamorgan, which is very
The support for cricket in Cardiff is one of the lowest in county cricket.
Taunton is the countries cricketing hotbed, it would be the first place I'd hold games outside of the big cities. Or at least share it with Bristol.
Personally I'd rather visit the dentist, so glad it's not here. The decision is apparently a way of compensating Glamorgan for not having test matches anymore. Money before sense, hope it goes tits up in year one

I think it’s 4 seconds in 10 seasons......just can’t seem to get over the line and this time around on a raging turner the British weather plays a massive part........what a bummer!
Some lovely words from all the pundits and Essex’s captain and of course Tom Abell for Tres.......sorry to see him retire but age waits for no man.
True, and TBF when he came on to field he looked like he'd already started enjoying retirement. That shirt was a tight fit to say the least

Agree mate. What a top bloke and what a great career he had. Did i hear right he averaged more in test cricket than first class cricket?
Yes 41 1st class 43 test I believe

Well that was a hard watch. It doesn't get any easier however many times we've come 2nd.....and it's a lot.
Watching the legend leave the field for the final time didn't help, deffo something in my eye.

Seems a very late finish to the County Championship season?
A gorgeous summer of weather and not a single days cricket at Taunton from the 10th July to 10th September.
A few T20 evening games but no proper days cricket during 2 months of high summer, then the grand finale at the end of September in the rain. Bonkers!

I`d sooner see him holding up the trophy at the front of the open top bus!
That too of course. But to take the winning catch from a kneeling position in the slips off Leach first.

Do we take this that Tres won’t be involved
They announced last week he won't be in the squad. I'd love yo see him come on as sub fielder towards the end though

I think so! I cant see that we would beat essex with them getting 5 more bonus points. Its basically win and its ours.
Correct, hugely unlikely bonus points will cone into it. It would mean something like us scoring under 200 them scoring over 400 and us winning. Best in mind there will be no declarations from Essex.
On the other hand, anything's possible with Somerset

I'll give you that one, hopefully he gets his 5th very quickly tomorrow.
Davey has been almost unplayable at times this summer, can't believe he's wicketless today
