  1. Besides City’s victory my favourite visit was to see David Bowie in his Glass Spider Tour. Some people weren’t keen on that tour but I loved it, very theatrical.
  2. I know the PA system has been well discussed and Bristol Sport don’t want to spend the money but why can’t we have substitutions come up on the big screen? Other clubs, like Leicester last week do it and it works really well. The club do plenty of good but you can add the club shop and reward scheme to things they don’t get right, oh and our inability to beat Stoke at home however bad they are.
  3. Well after being stuck in front of the tv I had to listen to radio 5 on the way to football and back. Let’s just say I’m glad I’ve got Sky. The commentator on the final game must have thought he was commentating on tv as he never told us exactly what happened, you just had to guess, did it go in or not? I was left unsure if we’d tied the match or lost it. And then Chappers, who I usually really like summed it up saying another dominant day for the Europeans, the day finished 4-4. The only bright spot was hearing our very own Chris Wood summarising alongside Chappers. At one point Chappers in a surprised voice asked him “are you allowed to take drinks from the players tee side fridge” Woody said “we’ll nobody saw me did they?”
  4. Nearly time to leave my sofa and head to the Gate as I stupidly arranged a pre match lunch a while back. I wasn’t expecting to leave it with Europe in such a commanding position I must admit.
  5. The Ricky Ponting lookalike is in danger of winning a first full point for the USA
  6. Over 18 holes that would be like one shooting a 60 the other late 80s.
  7. I love some of the shots Rory gets disappointed with I’d be lighting a cigar walking down the fairway.
  8. How can you expect Brooks to play proper golf when there’s no Saudi money being thrown at him, just not fair
  9. As we stand it’s still possible for Europe to win it today, which although unlikely the fact we’re even mentioning it is remarkable. But yes, the singles can throw up some real big comebacks
  10. Although I was kind of agreeing with this yesterday, I’m now thinking an absolute thumping would just highlight how pathetic, spoilt and childish a lot of the Americans are. What maybe needs to happen is a neutral organisation should prepare a course each time so it doesn’t overly favour one of the teams.
  11. Oh I couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve achieved at Somerset over the years. When I first started going as a kid in the mid 70s we were a bottom 3 County with no money. Now, as you say, we’re up there with the big boys every season. The players that have come out of Devon and Somerset is a matter of real pride, when you think nearly every other area of the country is near a big test county. All that and we’re continually being undermined by the ECB and then called moaners because we’ve lost so much of our summer. My pet hate in the arguments is when someone says “how can you hate the 100, my son loves going to the Oval / Old Trafford etc.” They have no answer when you point out there’s nowhere in the school holidays to take our children except maybe 4 days at Taunton where we have to explain to our children that none of the well known players will be playing. We are a great county but the schedule on offer every summer now just isn’t good enough and that is a great, great shame.
  12. Well @Jerseybean I think your mate should give up betting. He’s bet on Stoke to get promoted and for us to win at home, he’s never gonna get rich! It’s one of those annoying situations where all facts and stats lead to a comfortable home win. Then we remember it’s the championship and exactly the opposite is most likely.
  13. Cracking finish at Notts which sees Middlesex relegated and Somerset drop to 7th. County cricket is just not the same now and I guess it’ll never be. With only 2 premier trophies to play for and one minor one, compared to 4 back in the day, makes it less interesting for a lot of counties that can’t compete in the 2 that are left. I had always planned to get life membership when I reached 50 but I never bothered as there’s nowhere near the same cricket on offer nowadays and a very uncertain future. Anyway, on the bright side we did win one of those trophies and continue next year as the county that’s spent the longest consecutive years in the top division. Roll on next summer………or freezing cold spring probably.
  14. Well, well, well, not sure how we got 2 1/2 points this afternoon. Day one and no wins yet for USA
  15. Absolute game changer from Rahm
  16. Looks like he’s after a front 9 in the 20’s. That’s hot!
  17. Yeah that wouldn’t be bad. You only have to look at last weeks Solheim cup where we were 4-0 down after the first morning and went on to draw and retain the trophy
  18. The 6th hole from the final group and we finally have red on the board…….for now.
  19. Into the afternoon session and we haven’t seen red on the board for even one hole. I don’t remember that happening before.
  20. I’m not sure he’d go too mad with his spending if we got promoted, never mind looking like we might.
  21. Try and plan an away game, they really are the best games for atmosphere and a togetherness amongst our fans and surprisingly little moaning compared to home games. I think this is similar to most clubs to be fair.
  22. It might have been when he first joined us, which was on a short term deal but I’m sure he said in an interview, that he didn’t mind rolling contracts. Maybe he said he’d had them before? Then in the April he signed the 3 year deal.
  23. I’m sure I have a memory of one of Nigel’s first interviews, when asked about his contract he said he had a 12 month rolling contract which suited him and was what he was used to.
