  1. "the Robins have been unable to get the best out of one of the most talented playmakers outside of the Premier League." Bristol Post seems to rate him! ?
  2. Been a bit "whoosh'd" here I feel... You must know how our friend RR feels about Sr. Johnson?
  3. Gary Taylor-Fletcher He never played for Scunthorpe though.
  4. Weimann seems harshly rated. For a team in our league position - his return this season in terms of goals and assists is excellent.
  5. Not overly relevant but an absolute masterclass in this art from Michail Antonio for West Ham on Thursday night. Amazing how far he's come since he was playing at our level. England have missed a trick with him I feel.
  6. First football memories are around 1996 - so not far off. However - if you look at the most successful English clubs in terms of total trophies won domestically and in Europe - the 19 I've listed are the top 19. So purely on a footballing success measure, this would be an all time list, nothing to do with the early 2000s. The 20th club was just for fun...
  7. Man United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Spurs, Villa, Everton, Newcastle, Forest, Wolves, Blackburn, Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds, West Ham, Leicester, West Brom, Sheffield United... And Bristol City. Sounds great. No relegation... ?
  8. Or does this show we have the most one dimensional tactics...?
  9. I can't remember what tier they were in, I'd say maybe 4th, but 1860 Munich were getting 12,000 on average when they were very low down the leagues. I think Germany can rival the UK for attendances.
  10. Based on what. You have more info than the rest of us, clearly.
  11. Left foot, right foot, and a header! Perfect.
  12. It's nothing to do with what he achieved as a player in the top flight - he has also managed six Premier League sides and a national team. Most would consider him a success in his roles with Wales, Blackburn, Fulham, and for a long time at Stoke, too. He's got loads of experience at a very high level, and success there too. It's a great appointment.
  13. Basically every managerial appointment in football ends in tears at some point, you're hardly making a doomsday prediction there. Hughes is a good appointment for that level.
  14. I have collected away match tickets at games for as long as I can remember and not had a problem once. There's never much of a queue. Worst I can remember was Man City away in the League Cup, and even then we were all still inside before kick off.
  15. Don't mean to burst the bubble, and I'm sure someone like Fevs will provide a fee - but it wasn't free. We had to pay - as you do between English clubs for anyone under the age of 24 when an agreement isn't reached between the two clubs involved.
  16. People would have said that about Arsenal not so long ago. I think it's nonsense. He was playing for the "bigger" club in the fixture, but equally, it has nothing to do with that. He got sent off because he committed two bookable offences.
  17. It's actually 83 in all competitions, and as someone else said, 74 in the league. 16 this season though in the league (before tonight) - he has 4 goals, so I'm guessing 6 assists, depending on how loosely they count contributions.
  18. One of the best careers in English football is a big stretch. In terms of longevity, maybe, but not footballing success. A very decent Premier League goalkeeper for many years, and over 50 caps for England isn't to be sniffed at, I'd agree with that. However, he hardly won anything throughout his career. He's miles behind loads of players in terms of footballing successes. Wouldn't even make the top 100.
  19. Wishful thinking I am afraid Dave.
  20. All Premier League sides have to have VAR because those are the rules set by the Premier League. However, they are not the rules set by the FA for the FA Cup. They use VAR because they believe it improves the application of the rules in each match in which it is used. It doesn't, however, change the rules. The FA's view is exactly what mine is. If you can improve the application of the same rule set in some matches then there is no reason not to do so. Therefore if VAR exists, use it. If it doesn't, it has no impact on the fairness of the game or competition. Your argument is exactly the same as saying all matches should have the same referee, because some are better than others. Or all matches should have the same pitch, because some are better than others. It doesn't make sense. As long as it's the same for both teams in the matches being played, it is fair for the competition overall. The competition is only skewed if the same rules are not being applied across matches, or if the chance if progression for certain teams is skewed. VAR doesn't alter either of those.
  21. Precisely. You are proving my point for me. It isn't unfair to use it then.
  22. My answer to this post is the same as to a previous one. Who is that unfair on? It could happen to both sides, it doesn't alter the fairness of the competition. It has no affect on any games being played other than the one in which it is used and in that game it is applied equally for both sides.
  23. But who is this unfair on? The same thing could happen to both sides. This isn't an argument against the use of technology.
