FFS this new training kit is just going from bad to worse. Besides O'Neills looking like ultra basic park football blanks with ridiculously cheap looking and entirely random iron-on chest logos, on what planet did it make sense to resurrect that 70s CITY design in a circle, which works because it was red (City x Red being unique to us) and roll it out not in red, but black and WORST of all sky blue, a colour for which there are at least two large football teams called City to be confused by.

I mean it actually beggars belief how equal parts moronic and out of control these clowns are. Everyone jumps on JL, I've got no idea if it's still him or someone else, but the pattern of completely self indulgent "look I've done a design" that the club we support keeps rolling out (which for real designers would never have made it off the computer after a few days of sensible reflection/consultation) shows a breathtaking lack of professionalism or interest in us being taken seriously.

They've had some hits with Hummel, probably talking to competent designers and yet the level of ego and delusion about their role as a design function has quite clearly run out of control now. Fuelled by their own self-created social media echo chamber (WE ARE FEVER PITCH, Bristol City get likes so we are an agency now x) they think every traced robin, shape or font they touch will just turn to gold. Their whole output is now an endless gushing sewage outlet of fonts and doodles.

The crest redesign never really worked for me as a project. The intent made sense and clearly actual designers worked on it, but it fell a little short of succeeding via some amateurish or fussy details (the design tries to do a few too many things and could have been even cleaner, whilst first production of it on kits pre-Hummel was awful quality that hugely degraded the logo). Both of those felt entirely "client" (JL or whoever you want to blame) rather than designer led problems.

But to go from falling just short on a crest we are now supposed to be known by, to then compounding it by now regularly as the client instead trying to roll out other bits of shit homemade clipart in its place, not only diluting impact of your new brand, but suggesting a monumentally immature "let's play" art class mentality at the club, is evidence that our approach to brand and merchandising is a total embarrassment once the grown ups (Mr B & Friends and Hummel) are gone.

This is captive audience marketing & the club are hoping we get Stockholm syndrome.

Some say it’s only a kit, who cares, don’t like it so don’t buy it etc but replica match shirts in particular are a fundamental element of any club’s identity and it’s expected that 10,000s of fans will wear it.

The designs are becoming far to personal to JL who is hoping this connects with other fans.

Maybe a limited edition commemorative shirt for the small number of fans who like that vintage sort of thing but match day shirts should a technical garment of modern design, created by a specialist brand.

Theres good reason why specialist sports brands give clubs limited customisation as they are multi £M/B sport specialists who know far more about design in their field.

I’m sure I heard an interview a couple of months ago where i interpreted his comments as indicating he’d be very happy to move this summer if a suitable offer was made.

If you’re a player like Zak - you have to be thinking it’s either time for a proper contract from City or use his best season as a stepping stone to build his career elsewhere.

It wasn’t so long ago that he wasn’t fancied and played so many games due to injuries & to his credit he really, really kicked on.

I get Pearson saying they need to prove more than one season, but football moves so quickly these days & a player like Zak is taking a risk staying on current contact if say his game time gets reduced due to new signings etc.

The groundwork for this seasons squad has been set. The additions in defence of Dickie, McCrorie and potentially Roberts look to make us much harder to beat. There is now decent competition amongst our back-line.

My impression is that these deals were always our priority this summer. I feel additional business could centre around Alex Scott’s future.

If he were to leave for a big fee, I can see us reinforcing our centre midfield, and possibly a striker arriving (Conways goals alone might not be enough).

Overall, we look much stronger on paper. We look to have much more depth in certain positions, and the ability to rotate without weakening the starting 11.

Im excited for the season ahead.

Defensively stronger with additions so far but let’s not forget there were many games last season where we could not buy a goal (17 games)

Gives us the opportunity to be flexible

    Can have this;

                    MOL

       Vyner Naismith Pring

    Tanner Mccrorie Scott Bryan

     Sykes Conway Mehmeti

    Or 433

                       MOL

    Tanner Vyner Naismith Pring

       Mccrorie Scott Bryan

        Sykes Conway Mehmeti

Mccrorie can also go RB or Centre half.
    Two quality signings

Absolutely no point putting Scott in your starting 11 for next season - he won't be here

Got to be Matty James as 1st name on any team sheet

It might not be as much as we think.

    £110m - £25m = £95m (5%) £4.7m

It's a chunk of money but if it's only 5% then it's not going to be silly amounts of cash.

    110 - 25 = 85

I can honestly say that other than watching the Lionesses live TV I haven’t ever attended a women’s football match and I’m not likely to change a habit of a lifetime at my age.

What an odd comment to make to diminish an achievement of a city team.

No one actually cares what habits you may or may not change.  But your attitude towards women is very revealing.

Huge congrats to City women -  fantastic achievement & really hope they are backed in the WSL.

  7. He’s playing for his next contact, be that here or elsewhere.

On his day a good Championship player & today he was properly at it for long spells.

He will go where he’s wanted & on the best terms offered.

Didn’t hear the boo’s from the Lansdown  but if true that’s disappointing whatever your opinion.

His rapid track back when they were 2 on 1 was impressive & was so close to that volley going in for the winner.

Better today just don’t think anyone is entirely sure what his role is yet.

  9. I think the scapegoat definition is doing some heavy lifting in this thread.

Most would reasonably expect an experienced Championship forward to be able to come in and adapt quicker than an academy prospect which is why you pay a fee &/or offer bigger wages, especially with a Jan transfer. Otherwise why not give another of the kids 10 games to see what they can give.

Think it’s ok to agree it’s been a disappointing signing so far, but I’m sure to a man we all are rooting for him to find his place in the group and succeed for City.
