They were better but Hughton ball can be quite counter attacking too..had we ie Tomlin put us ahead as he should, well maybe their greater quality would have told but the dynamic would have changed and the crowd would have been more up for it etc.
I don’t think I remember Tomlins early chance but I do remember squirming whenever Glenn Murray and whoever else was up front with him was attacking our end.
Ran us ragged in that first half.
I think we were above them in the league going into that game but we were only a few weeks away from that 10 game (?) run of defeats that firmly dropped us in the shit.- 1

Crawley I think. We actually won two nil but it sticks in my mind. Remember sitting in the Atyeo watching the fireworks. Remember losing to Leicester when I think McInnes was in charge and some one about half a dozen rows down just read a book for the whole game!
Yeah 2-0 Crawley was Bonfire Night 2013.
That result was a bit of an upset as well, only our second win of the season. **** me 2013 was shit.

If the same game, Brighton. O'Donnell chipped.
Don't think that was quite as bad..we started strong, the crowd was up under the lights and had Tomlin scored his great early chance the game could've changed dramatically.
The game that O Donnell got chipped from the half way line Brighton were by far the better side in the first half, looked dangerous every time they attacked. 2nd half they just sat back and just mopped up every attack we made.
I wasn’t shocked to see them go up that season.

True.
A better example would be the 1,340 Bristol City brought on a Saturday afternoon in February 2020 whilst 7th in the Championship.
I can’t even remember what I was doing last night let alone how many we took to Millwall 3 years ago
I think the original comparison on last years game was fine, I’m reasonably sure we had a train to get us back to Bristol, I was just pointing out it wasn’t before Christmas. -

So I don’t think I am talking non sense when I suggest that you’d take a similar percentage of home fans (from Bristol) to us for a New Years Day match costing £35
Agree.

Bristol City brought 1,122 to The Den last season for a fixture just before Christmas
Between Christmas and New Year, think it was a Thursday night?
5 hours ago, Piccolo said:Would more than 1,100 Bristolians bother coming to The Den direct from Bristol today (ie not London/SE based), whilst near bottom of table?
Probably not, especially on New Years Day with 9k going back up to London next weekend.

Correct, Chipping Sodbury tunnel is flooded. BTM services unaffected.

Best thread of the year and it’s arrived on 30th December.

In the last 4 games Rovers have won 3 times, two of which were against the top 2. I'm not going to be the one to overhype us, I think we'll finish somewhere in the 8th-12th range, but here's a question. If winning a league game each against the top 2 (let's presume Portsmouth and Bolton finish top 2 for now, but right now it's comparative) isn't particularly noteworthy, when was the last time City did it in the Championship (hint: or equivalent before...)

Was that the season we started well, then got walloped by Blackburn at home?
Lost against Forest 1st game, beat Palace 4-2 midweek when Baldock signed, beat Cardiff the following Saturday lunchtime to take us top of the table for about an hour. Lost to Barnsley the following match.
The rest of the season was just dogshit and yes, did include Blackburn beating us at home.

True being in town makes it look dull and boring but I think the ground certainly looks better than it used to do when we had the old east stand .
I do like Vicarage Road, smart looking stadium.

On the night of their hilarious attempt to sign Clarke-Harris, wasn’t he the guy who laughed at a fake account in his name that had posted that the deal had fallen through….10 minutes before realising the fake account knew more than he did?

You joke, but I'll bet that some idiot of a journalist had confused him with the Chief and the rest have just followed on. The article that says he played for City also mentions him playing for Swindon.
I thought that, but they’ve obviously got their info from the Premier League website that says he started at Swindon and moved to us.

Blackpool away on Christmas eve eve?
Who makes these fixtures up?
Thet normally take thousands to Blackpool on a Bank Holiday weekend (with thousands more locked out)
But only managed 400 to Fleetwood on a Bank Holiday Monday earlier this year.
Presumably the other 10k were down the road riding donkeys on the beach.

Wouldn’t be the last time we ruined their Christmas.
I arrived, pissed, just in time to see the net bulge in front of the Atyeo when one of their donkeys scored, 3 goals in the second half put it to bed and even though one of them hoofed the ball into the net we never really looked in danger. Their fans were silent as per usual. Went back into town afterwards to get even more leathered.

Thanks @RedM. It was about the only part of the conversation they could beat me on
You could point out that in the grand scheme of things, taking a few more to a closer away game on a Tuesday doesn’t trump the fact that we’re averaging 1800 away this season whilst they are on around 1100.

I also agree that we should be singing some pro Manning songs to show some support (also won't happen....)
Totally agree.
Like most I’m grateful to Nigel and appreciate the hard work he did here under difficult circumstances but it’s really important to support the team during a game.
NP won’t hear any songs about him but Manning will and I don’t see how that will help us get the results we all want.

I’d swap the word ‘shame’ with the word ‘disgrace’. After all the money LJ pissed down the drain I can understand the hesitation to splash ridiculous amounts of cash but Pearson had earned the right to a decent transfer kitty. A few quality additions after the sale of Alex Scott could’ve made a massive difference to our season.

Not seen any scores but I'm assuming QPR won, because we were assured last night that they were definitely going to?
Which would’ve been a fair assumption based on recent form. Keeping an eye on their in game stats on Bet365 you’d be forgiven for thinking Plymouth were playing Man City if it wasn’t for the scorline.
Either way they’re doing really well with their new manager which makes our draw there look a decent result. Hope I’m wrong but my gut feeling is that they’ll be above us by New Year’s Day which is bizarre considering how far behind us they were a few weeks ago.

What kind of reaction do you expect exactly? “oh well, another defeat, never mind”.

We were 13 points clear 2 and a half weeks ago. When QPR win tonight we’ll be 5 points clear with over half the season to go.Not good is it?
