  1. A good read, @Shtanley.  Thank you to all the contributors.

I really must get along to support El Rincon sometime.  I particularly liked the piece on Mo Dola.  It was a real shame the club didn't make more of Famara time time to break down some barriers between didn't sections of the City family.  Though they have reached out too so that's encouraging.  And very sad (but not surprising) to hear that Mo still witnesses racism at games.   I do hope if someone like Mehmeti makes a success of his time with us, we can celebrate the diversity of our support more and encourage everyone to come the Gate, to feel safe and to feel like they belong.

  2. I have no idea how the app will work, but those saying 'just screen shot' it, there are app that prevent screen shots to be taken.  My banking app and First Bus app so precisely this to either enforce security or to stop tickets being shared illegally.

I hope the club do leave a loophole to allow unused tickets to be shared.   I go with 5 others (used to be 12 of us but life has got in the way for others) and we often lend out a ticket to someone who otherwise wouldn't come.  Got a couple of new season tickets holder this way, so the club can benefit in the long run aside from any drinks they may buy there on the day.

My son is disabled but very tech savvy so he will be fine.  However, he first got a season ticket as a child and never had an email address at that time.   They still have his details registered with my email.  The club may need to do a data cleanup to make sure email addresses are up to date is that's part of the verification for a season ticket holder.

  3. Clubs talk alot about inclusiveness and equality so they all should offer this option.  I am uncomfortable with shirts that promote drinking and gambling because of the harm these can cause to some individuals and their families, but for a substantial number of people they object on religious grounds.   Everyone should feel they can be part of the City family and get a shirt if they want to.  Well done Watford.

How could Man City let that happen????

50 million player at least even at 32. Has 3 years left in him easily.

Seems odd doesn't it?  I guess the alternative would be to have done the same with him as NP did with Massengo and give him the cold shoulder in the last year of his contract because he wouldn't sign.  However, playing him and securing the treble is much more important that losing out on £50m.

  5. This lad got what he deserved.  I think the point @Eddie Hitler is making is that every disaster chant is abhorrent.  Man Utd fans have ensured chants about Munich for decades from opposing fans including Leeds and Liverpool.  It's all wrong.  Sections of every team's support have the capacity to be utterly offensive and have proven be so in the past.

And can we drop the childish twist of teams names like ManUre and Florist.  It's one thing to give a shite nickname to your rival, but to extend it to other clubs?  Embarrassing.

I don't suppose there are too many U21s getting regular game time, but still quite an accolade to be made captain especially so relatively new to the team.  Well done Tommy.

  7. That's mad.

The life of a professional footballer is a bit mad when you think of it.  It's like me practicing all week to do my job, hoping my manager will notice how well I am practicing to do it.  If he does, I may earn the right to do my job for an hour and a half on one or maybe two days of the week.   And when I do some 20,000 people who know very little about my job, or what I've been asked to do, and have never done it themselves, get to shout at me if they think I'm not doing it very well.  But if they think I am doing it well they cheer and idolise me for just doing my job.   ******* weird.

Says all that needs to be said about the closeted life of a professional footballer.  I couldn't believe it when he came out with that! ?

A Desso pitch is a full artificial pitch used for indoor training or outdoor high usage, it is a brand there are others who perform similar (SIS for example). Most top pitches are a hybrid system and indeed ordinarily would give over 10 years of service. Most prem clubs use this. The technology options have changed a little since we installed ours but these pitches are a mix say 5% artificial fibre with 95% grass. When AG was installed, if you could imagine a hair transplant sewing device, a machine inserted each fibre, slowly moving across the pitch area at slow speed, threading in the fibre to a mesh. This is very slow and makes it hard to repair any worn areas, though durability is seen as a prime attibute. AG looked worn out last season.

Maybe we will move to the alternative technology where you can grow the grass off-site, and then bring it in and roll it out. This is particularly useful for dual use where goalmouths get worn and certain rugby areas from scrummage. This is used more and more by many top clubs. It would reduce the lifespan, but be more flexible (you can repair rapidly) and reduces install time. It is pretty sure the media team will update when work begins.

A considerable expense in any case. Though nothng beats the Spurs pitch cost and design.

Isn't there some pitch for some sport where they can roll a while new pitch out under a stand.  Or is this some weird ( and very dull) dream I had? ?

  10. I do wonder how well these teams are paid.   You could argue they are just as important as players (maybe more so), but I suspect they get nowhere near the amount even the least paid player gets.   Also, how about headhunting some of these high performing operations?

Yet you specifically said you cant be arsed to scroll through thousands of pages. Why not have a cursory read of the posts from the last few pages to see if there is anything of interest. One thread on Rovers is more than enough and easy to dip in and out of as it is only one thread.

So I have to read every post just in case there something new in there since the last topic was discussed?

I'm just saying what is my preference.  And it's probably easier for the mods in that they have less merging to do.

As I said before, I am probably in a minority.

You do realise you can just navigate straight to the most recent post/ page without trawling through thousands of posts ?

I know you can hit the >> to get the last page, but that isn't necessarily the start of the latest posts in the thread.

The cookies will take me to the last post I have read, but I probably got bored with the previous topic in the thread and never got to the end of what has been posted previously.

I'm pretty sure there isn't a button that will take me to the latest post I might be interested in.  Which is exactly why separate threads on separate topics (regardless of the are for same player or club that has already been a topic) works best for me.

Tbf I do think you have a good point, and this is in no way knocking the mods who do the job for free. I think stuff like the Rovers dustbin thread makes sense - it’s there and people know where to look.

What annoys me more is stuff like when someone starts a thread after a game about (say) Matty James and it gets merged with a thread discussing his performance from the prior week. Similarly, if (for example) we’d just announced a friendly and a post was made specifically for that game it getting merged immediately into a wider thread where it’s less likely to be seen.

Against that, when 15 threads start on the same thing on a matchday it’s only reasonable to merge.

Note that people tend to leave threads alone after a while even if new stuff is added as they think it’s an old discussion.

Again, totally not getting at the mods (it’s not a job I’d want) and a lot of this is personal preference but my general feeling is that the merging is a touch over zealous. I’d follow the following “rule of thumb”

    - Things should not be merged if the original thread was more than x days old

    - Things should not be merged when the subject is clearly different (or the title of original thread should change - eg if Scott signed a new deal, merge the thread we have but change the title)

    - Things shouldn’t be merged in the first, say, two hours of posting (unless, again, it’s obvious - i.e 15 people starting a thread over a Scott new deal)

Theres never a perfect answer here and the forum is better than most, but I do think we go a bit too quickly on the merging here.

I put a poll up to get the Transfer Sub Forum created as that was one long thread at one stage.  Personally, I'd have 'The Other Lot' sub forum too.   It was all a bit egotistical at the time the single thread was created as some felt it was a bit pathetic that we had so many threads about them.  One massive thread is no less embarrassing if that the way you look at things.

I was being a bit provocative having a pop at the mods.  I wouldn't take it on and it's a thankless task, so I do appreciate what they do.  But if I was doing it I would definitely have a lighter touch (pure laziness) and let the threads have a bit more of their own life rather than merge.  Either than or we could just have a single 'Bristol City' thread!! ?

You do know you can click on the red dot next to the thread title which will take you to the latest post don’t you?

Can see any red dot on my android phone.  I am colourblind though! ?

The cookies ensure it takes me to the last post I read, but this could be pages old on the previous topic that been since added to.
