Another Wrexham thread ..just what is needed.

I seem to be in a minority but I prefer multiple threads that are more focussed on a particular story or event so I can instantly see if it's something I want to read.  (This one could be more specifically named if I was going to be pedantic).

These generic 'West Ham' or 'Wrexham' threads that get resurrected from ages ago are annoying.   I have to read 6 pages of some old story that lost my interest some time ago to find get to something new that may or may not be of interest now.  Sure, if two thread are started on the same story then merge them, but otherwise just leave them alone to bubble away on page one or disappear from view if they aren't of interest.

There are some stories about Rovers that I may finding of interest but I've given up now because I can't be arsed viewing thousands of pages of shite just because there may be something in there.

Is it some kind of authoritarian power trip by the mods?

  2. I know Ireland aren't the strongest team right now but maybe there are some hidden gem in there that we can cast an eye over?

I know he's not gonna be there but the lad Evan Ferguson at Brighton is supposed to be an awesome talent.  Any more League Of Ireland players like that would be very handy.

LJ said at a fans forum at AG he found eliasson by wyscout (or something similar) whilst on his laptop lying on the sofa!! and think he was signed without anyone watching him live as well

Really?  Never knew that.  I still feel MA has generally been the main culprit.  LJ had far more investment in building a successful team, and more to lose if he wasn't successful in that.  I have no idea what incentives were driving MA, but making the club a financial success had got to more relevant for him.

  4. A lot of blame being put of LJ for signing Eliasson as a vanity project without knowing where to play him.   I'm not convinced it was LJ that instigated a lot of this.

My reckoning is that it was MA treating the club and a hothouse for turning promising young players into expensive sales a few years down the line without any DoF or philosophy of the type of football or system we wanted to play.  (MA's contract maybe incentivised this or it was pure vanity, I'm not sure which).  The irony being that without such a system players aren't able to develop and realise their potential to achieve those sales.

I'd have loved to see CO'D and Eliasson in a front three with someone like Conway through the middle.  Both players I feel had all the freedom of playing expansive attacking football coached out of them at a critical stage in their development.

Nige normally drops a few interesting tidbits during these interviews, I reckon we will get some news on outgoings at least

Yes, he does.  GT is a great sports journalist and it helps that he's played the game which I think he has NP's respect and gives him a bit more.

I'm approaching my 80th birthday and my hopes for next season and many more to follow are that I'm still physically able to get to home matches.

Great to hear @cidered abroad and isn't that just what it's about. Being there.

Probably, the 16th year I've taken my disabled son, and going to the football and feeling involved with City is just about the best thing in his life.  His brother and sister have both been season ticket holder too, but have now moved away.

It makes it more enjoyable if we are winning, but being with my son at the game and meeting with friends for a pre-match cider is what counts.

Hopefully, the academy kids flourish and some decent football and to be in with a shout of the playoffs would do me.

Let's hope he gives an honest, waffle free assesment of the season just gone plus a strategy as to how he will improve things for next season.

One thing NP is is waffle free.  He can be quite circumspect at times and cautious with his language, but he does tell it as it is.

    Or tweet me, on Twitter

Thank for that Geoff, without that advice I'd have tried tweeting you using a car.

It's actually worse than that.  He says 'Tweet me via Twitter'

Not call me via telephone or email me via computer though.

He's been fantastic and I will miss his shows, but someone should have told me about the twitter thing.

  9. He must be a managers dream.  He was our top scorer last season and he's been willing to play anywhere he's been asked seemingly without complaint - well at least if he is unhappy he hasn't let it affect his effort.

Can't underestimate how well he recover from his ACL injury and how he has managed to stay injury free.  Hopefully, he can offer Rob Atkinson some advice and encouragement as he come back from his own.

Was thinking about this the other day. Albeit slightly differently.

Say Scott went to Liverpool for £25m and was kept there for his development, what thoughts on us pitching with evidence bring our recent excellent player development someone like Carvalho on loan. Separate transaction, all separately costed but he would get very regular game time here, we develop players well- or would a return to this level be seen as unlikely.

Maybe.  The development of own academy evidenced by the impact our players are having in the pitch cannot be overstated.   There are so many wins and the beauty of it is that it becomes self sustaining.   We provide player that have a career in football (at city or elsewhere) so we attract better players who have a better chance of being a success.

Getting the trust of a top side to nurture one of there own isn't something I'd thought about but what a coup if it happened.   I'd be happy with gaining enough trust to get a decent loan or two, and judging my Pearson's recent interviews I suspect he now feels the club's is in a position to take a couple.

Sad,  Confused and Hmmm symbols are the biggest cop out on this site IMHO.  They all mean nothing , other than an admittance of a lack of abiltiy to articulate or express ones self?   Glib or not to Glib... that is the question?   If you are incapable of forming an opinion.......beyond an attempt to string 4 letters together...then don't pheckin bother ?

Since we no longer have the turd emoji, these are all shorthand for saying you're talking sh1te.  So sh1te that they can't be ar$ed to write a reply.

I thought Pearson's interview was measured and considered.  For me he came across as quietly optimistic that we will have a good season next year if we get some decent signings.

I honestly think one more year honing, sort of perfecting his game with us wouldn't be bad for him. Especially as we are progressing in the right direction, he could be playing in a still improving team next year perhaps with some interesting new additions too.

The problem is would he want that...one final year and then financially the last 12 months of a contract value or attainable fees start to really decelerate.

If we have been promoted it won't matter. ?

Definitely, especially if his then parent club could loan us a decent player to keep an eye on him.

Are you suggesting that ITV have control over the police for football kick off times?

I think ITV controlling the MET police would be an improvement over the MET police controlling the MET police.   I'd sack the lot of them and get the cast of The Bill to police London.  Every crime solved in a very convenient hourly slot at 8pm every evening just in time for the news, then bed.

We learnt about it in Geography rather than History oddly. We even had a school trip to Bristol centre and discussion on the subject. I remember vividly the horror of the drawings onf the slaves led out like sardines in the ships.

I wasn't raised in Bristol so nothing about slavery in my geography classes either.   We didn't learn anything about the brutal side of British Colonialism in class though.  Personally, I think it's important that this is taught.

It's obviously a leading article. It has no proof the ships were used in the slave trade, but has now put the idea in people's heads that they may have been.

    How'd the lyrics go....

Rule, Britannia! Britannia, rule the waves!

Britons never, never, never will be slaves.

There may not be a direct link to to slavery when this was written, but whoever 'ruled the sea' dominates trade.  And unfortunately at one point in history slaves were 'commodity' of that trade when the Royal Navy did dominant.  Whoever 'ruled the waves' would have traded in slaves at that time.  It's an uncomfortable truth for many when this is pointed out.

I reckon we are of a similar age judging from your posts and I was certainly not taught anything about the slave trade when I was at school.  Maybe just a different curriculum?  I learnt more about slavery from the TV series Roots than in any history lesson.

  16. I didn't know about Darrell Clarke's daughter.  (Guess it was merged into the Gas thread).  Very sad.  Can't imagine how you cope when something so awful happens.  My cousin's son took his own life this year and it was the saddest funeral I've ever been to.  Heartbreaking.

Yes, the bloke was a pretty immature when he was Rovers manager, but he obviously did well to take them back into the league so soon after being relegated so he must have something about him.

  17. Hi,

Trying to buy an online ticket for tomorrow and I am getting a message that says 'the number of tickets owned by xxxx exceeds their limitations!'

It suggests assigning a different owner, but get the same message whoever I assign it to in my group.

I am sure I got around this in the past but can't figure out how I did it now.  Can anyone help?

    Many thanks.
