Oxford was largely spared during the bombings of World War II, making it an especially fun city for lovers of old architecture.
It was spared because Hitler wanted to make the City the nation's capital after invasion.

I think Bells rating is coloured by the (well taken) goal. He missed a very good chance first half without making the keeper work, and when he broke second half again the effort was tame. Pring didn’t have a good day but I don’t think Sam helped him much, and he wasn’t a great outlet. Take the goal out and there wasn’t much there from Sam today.
He was obviously disappointed he didn't score but I don't think he did much wrong with his first chance. He shot on target and placed the ball back toward the far corner, meaning a parry would (potentially) bring the ball back out into play. Perhaps you could criticise the height of the shot. Good height for the keeper.
What worried me more was the lack of chances we created, and our failure to move the ball quickly. It was almost as if that for some players the challenge was to make the starting eleven, rather than performing in the game.
It's great we are a very fit team, but given the relatively poor quality of the team we played preseason, I wonder to what extent fitness won these games. We have always struggled against team that sit back and that we need to open up. I think preseason needs to test our guile as well as our fitness.
As others have said, Vyner, Dickie, Bell, and Williams were good. Also thought things improved when Sykes and Conway came on.
Oxford is a great chance for others in the squad to press for a start.

Ah, shit. Always enjoy a cider in the sun on the first game of the season.

Thank for the update. Good to hear the digital ticketing went well.

Very pleased you guys are producing a match day programme. My son loves a programme and he has really missed not having one. Especially pleased you are accepting payment by card. Thank you.

Hmmm … I hope you mean either
”you cannot overestimate the impact Pearson has”
or
”you should not underestimate the impact Pearson has”.
What you wrote implies Pearson has no impact …
Yeah, never quite get that right. Basically, Pearson's Bristol City smashing it.

For me, you cannot underestimate the impact Pearson has. Just as developing academy players and having a pathway becomes self-fulfilling as the better young players want to come here, the same is true for the first team.
Pearson and his team are selecting players to fit a style of play and within that framework he is confident enough in himself to give players the responsibility and licence to perform without micromanaging them. (We had a thread about Sean O'Driscoll recently, and this was Sean's philosophy too, although he wasn't able to bring in the same level of talent). Young up and coming players know they will be given the best chance to develop and succeed here, and if we can't deliver promotion they will be able to improve to the point that they have a very good springboard to greater success elsewhere. This in turns means we are able to attract the most up and coming talent here. The cycle continues.
My guess is we will see the same virtuous circle for decent loan players from the Prem in the near future, and this may ultimately see us gain promotion.

We obviously differ. Match day threads are fine if you want to follow the play as it unfolds, but it's usually full of emotional and reactionary post after the final whistle. Having a more considered thread a couple hours after then of the match makes for better reading for me, once everyone has calmed down.

I feel I need to make a meaningless and non insightful contribution to this thread.

That's sad. As well as a fantastic footballer he came across a decent man.

Good luck Joe. Any academy player securing a contract with a league club is a success story. It will convince other young players that signing for us will get them a career in professional football, even if it isn't with us. Got to be a good thing.

That's so sad. Thanks for posting the pictures. Looks like he had a lovely family. My condolences to them.

Really think he’ll be part of the first team ‘proper’ this season
What makes you say that? What kind of striker is he?

You can blame a fellow City fan for that... he promised to take me to a match if I ever came over to visit, and silly me, I didn't even ask what team or anything. UK Border Control always gives me funny looks when I say I'm coming over for the footy and they ask what team I am going to see!
I've been to 12 matches in 5 trips since 2013.
Thanks for that, I was gonna ask how come. I relocated to Bristol 32 years ago and happened to move in with a City fan who convinced me to come to game. He's moved away years ago, but left me with this obsession that I've now passed on to my kids too!!

Hope you have a great trip over and get tickets for the games you'd like to see. I love that we have fans overseas coming to visit and cheers on the lads.

He does seem like a proper player and someone that could play at a higher level if his progress continues. Excited for the new season.

Can you still get new cars with ashtrays? Maybe buy a phone with NFC using the money you save not buying a new car, then you can keep smoking too!
I've fashioned an ashtray on my bicycle handlebars. The rate I get through my fags I'd have been better off buying a classic car with an ashtray, mind.

Thanks but that's a bit like saying that if I,m a smoker with a car that has an ashtray, I need to buy my next car that has one as well.
Maybe if you have up the fags, you'd be able to buy a decent phone that has NFC?

In terms of my personal convenience, i would prefer the digital option, i am quite techy as I use my phone for work constantly and use the digital wallet for shopping etc. Just think it might prove inconvenient as the club are persistent on checking tickets there and everyone who goes in there is going to have to get their phone out and get their ticket up.
I think people will get used to it. Just open the wallet before you leave the pub, or home and lock the screen with the ticket showing. Then quick unlock to show anyone.
Better still give anyone that needs to inspect tickets an NFC enabled device that could just check the ticket from a scan when your phone is presented. No need to physically open your wallet app.

When you hit the DETAILS button on the ticket, there's information about moving the ticket to another email account. Could this be the way to share with someone else? Looks like they will have to remove from their Google wallet so you can download back to your account.
(Haven't read the whole so apologies if already shared).

I had my email registered my son's record as he was toddler when I his first ST. I just forwarded the email to him and hie downloaded it to his wallet.

Must have been some movement to put his knee out. I usually just pop a pile!
Gutted for Tommy. Was really looking forward to seeing him push on this year.
