Naturally we have to sit in and absorb pressure to frustrate Man City and put them out of their flow. It's a risky business but we don't have much choice.

If you're going to be mostly defending, you absolutely must have a threat going forward too. My crazy plan is this...

Bell to spearhead the attack. He has one lethal weapon that the Man City defence will struggle with; PACE.

Don't play Bell wide where Walker will keep up with him. Play him central, and hope he can latch onto a clearance (or even a pass, if we can muster a few of those!)

The pace of Bell and the sheer class of Scott, give us a chance to get out and give Man City problems.

I might be off my nut, but I would also be tempted to play JD left full back and Pring left forward. Print is comfortable going forward but also we would have a defensive balance that side.

Can’t see him starting Bell personally , think he will go Weinmann, Sykes and Wells as top three. We’re going to have to sit deep at times and Sykes and Tanner have a good understanding on the right, and he’ll go for Weinmann’s experience over Bell on the left. Think we’ll spend a lot of the game as a 4-5-1 but would like to see us start fast and aggressive, like others have said a lot of travelling for Man City this week.

NORWICH [H] - the verdict: How long can we keep this run going? | Forever Bristol City Podcast (podbean.com)

What was not to like about City impressive win against the Canaries which extended the unbeaten run to 9 games?

If you're an optimist you'll be looking up the table and questioning whether the play offs are in reach. The simple fact is we need 10 wins from 16 which is as many as we've achieved in 30 - a big ask?

The back 4 were the difference in City's favour as they put their bodies on the line with tackles and blocks to the extent that Max O'Leary was rarely called into action.

Sykes maintained his good scoring run and their was also a chance to see Mehmeti and Cornick the latter squandering a late opportunity to make the game safe.

DaveP hosts a discussion with father & son duo Neil & Tom plus Mark & Ian . There's even time to talk about the music of Burt Bacharach whose innings came to a close this week.

Don’t think we’ll lose a game between now and Man City personally , Wigan (win), Sunderland (draw) , Hull (draw). The players will want to play against Man City and that along with our run of form will see us pick up points in the run up to the cup game.  Whilst we have a small squad there are players who can step in if players drop form in run up to the cup.The most important fixtures are how we react post the cup game , Cardiff (a), Huddersfield (a), Blackpool (h). A run of bad results post the cup game could see us looking over our shoulders (again)

Tanner struggled with injuries & pring had stamina issues , Pearson has made it quite clear until you are fully fit you don’t even get a consideration to even challenge for a place , hence him this week totally dismissing a reporter who mentioned Wilson who had a run out , basically said he won’t even be considered until he is fit , end of .

The step up from league two to championship is immense, and it’s taken Tanner a while to make that step up , also from a fitness perspective. Tanner has been used as a stick to beat Pearson with from a recruitment drive. Wilson will come good, sometimes we’ve got to accept a player will take time to adapt to a higher level.

As for Pring many comments on his fitness levels which he’s clearly worked on, think with Pring & Atkinson, Pearson believes they can offer more and maybe a reason for the tough love?

Hi everyone, Norwich fan in peace. My wife and I are coming down to Bristol for our away match on Saturday 11th – we've been looking to come to Bristol for a while as we've heard it's a great city, and we're booked into a city-centre hotel from Thursday to Sunday.

Primarily we're looking for a pub that'll be showing the rugby after the match – Wales v Scotland kicks off at 4.45, so the closer to the ground the better. Obviously it'd need to be away-fan-friendly, but it's just the two of us and we're very friendly types :)

Any other recommendations for must-do, must-visit, must-eat or must-drink are gratefully received... although the cheaper/better-value the better, as we're certainly feeling the pinch like most people at the moment.

Anyway, looking forward to a great weekend and a great match to boot – we certainly seem to like playing high-tempo and high-press under our new manager David Wagner, so you should certainly get chances! How are you finding life under Nigel Pearson? Does he still retain the majority of the fans' support?

    Cheers,
    Matt.

    Hi Matt,

Have a look at this thread, plenty of comments / suggestions on restaurants in city centre and around Bristol. Certainly a wide range of recommendations

Enjoy Bristol , I’ll let other’s recommend a pub for the rugby!

Every tie at this stage is televised, even if it's on iPlayer, so we'd be on regardless of who we got.

I didn’t know that, thank you. Are the ties Tuesday & Wednesday only

    8 minutes ago, Ecko said:

    it will 100% be televised.

    I would expect

    Man Utd v whoever

Wrexham / Sheff Utd v Spurs

If Sunderland beat Fulham that to be televised v Leeds

It’s strange to imagine that a wee on a small piece of white plastic can so much change your life.

From the initial joy of finding out my partner Amy was pregnant with our first child, joy soon turned when we were referred to LGI where we were informed our unborn child had a heart condition called Truncus arteriosus.

Max O’Leary was born at 19:25 on Sunday 22 December 2019, a few hours after Bristol City had lost 1-0 to Sheffield Wednesday it felt rather apt that a defeat should incur on his birth date setting him up for years of disappointment ahead. Upon Max’s delivery it was standing room only as every doctor, nurse, midwife, consultant was there, including a pimped up cot which would not have looked out of place in a Sci Fi movie.

Max was transferred to Intensive Care where a doctor examined his heart, and when asked how it was – replied ‘as we expected’ ! We quickly moved onto the miracle of Max, I sat with him that evening as he was linked to every machine going, and the following morning we visited him before heading out for something to eat – upon our return he was just led in a cot and was being moved to a side room in the children’s ward, before he came home for the first time on Christmas Eve – two days after birth with the understanding Max would require surgery within the next six to eight weeks.

Max’s surgery was held on 16 January 2020, this is now known as his ‘Heart Day’.  We carried Max down to surgery to be put to sleep and then waited for that call to advise the surgery had been successful, which was to fit a plastic tube to act as an artery, he was three weeks old.

It’s still difficult to believe that a week after a seven hour open heart surgery he was being allowed home.

Max is now three years old, and slowly getting into the disappointment of being a City fan. He has six monthly check ups as they monitor him, with each one you know it’s one closer to being told surgery is required again.

We’re blessed to have such a special, strong child. Children’s Heart Surgery Fund provide life-saving medical equipment for the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit, parent accommodation for families and vital ward resources. We also fund staff training, scientific research and new clinical roles.

Please wear something red this Friday , in recognition of a fanatic charity that has supported my family and so many others and continues to do so. Thank you for taking the time to read this. ❤️

Quite sad isn't it when you compare the likes of us to them, Brighton, Brentford etc

It is sad to look at two of those clubs, appreciate Bournemouth cheated FFP to get there but Brentford & Brighton had a sustainable business model whilst we’ve chopped and changed from pillars to Ashton to various other methods. Whilst our owner pumps money into the club , I don’t think he’s ever had either the right voices taking to him or a structured way of progress and for that we’ve fallen years behind Brentford & Brighton and selling out best young players to Bournemouth

    I suspect we've already identified a replacement / cover.

I think Bentley was always leaving and the foreign keeper wasn't as last minute.com as it appeared. I think we already had him on standby if Bentley went, hence letting Bajic out on loan. I would imagine we have irons in fires with agents and players, where the hard work is done, and these could be players that have fundamentally agreed a move to us, on the proviso of said players leaving.

To be honest, I would not be surprised to hear over the next 48 hours that Rak-Sakyi is recalled by Crystal Palace from Charlton on loan. He has been on fire there, and he could be the deal maker for Semenyo. I,e send him on loan to us for the second half of the season. Would give him Championship experience and enable us to have forward cover, and would probably be a worthwhile deal to help get Semenyo over the line.

Is he a similar player to Semenyo?

I think today will be the day, likely we'll hear by end of the day a deal agreed and he'll be there for a medical to complete tomorrow morning, and expect a short term / loan incoming tomorrow.

Reckon it'll end up 12m plus add ons, possibly a player on loan until end of season included. But I reckon if he's gonna go, it's gonna happen today.

Positive thing is the club are moving quickly on their own deals once a player leaves as seen with the new keeper joining almost immediately as Bentley leaves the car park. Expect a quick announcement of an incoming player to replace Semenyo

Surely the team would have stayed in Bristol tonight?

Isn't there a ruling about a home team paying expenses for the away side?

Certainly wouldn want to be paying out twice

Didn’t know that about the home team paying expenses. Is that for all leagues?

Trouble here is if we don't sell him now, how will the player react..

Watching him on Tuesday night , no indication of that and his joy with the rest of the squad for Bell scoring and the result would suggest he’d been ok.
If he doesn’t go this month , clear message from Pearson and probably Tinnion score goals , create , play well and bigger clubs than Bournemouth will come knocking in the summer

how would they get there anyway?....

Post above stated it’s green football weekend , and the incentive from the club is a good one. Hopefully for us northern fans no train strikes so we can use public transport and not have to drive

Who are they? What will THEY cost, if they're to improve our team? I don't believe we'd be signing anybody, at the moment, that would walk in and improve the team.

I agree with you , our championship status is too important right now. Sit Semenyo down and tell him he can go in the summer , keep his form up , score / assist goals and bigger clubs then Bournemouth will come in for him. Then allows us the summer to bring new players in and revamp the squad

He said he’ll go strong.  Guess the likes of Williams, King and Dasilva come into contention for starting places, although I didn’t think Dasilva did himself any favours on Saturday.

It’s a real tough one from a selection point of view, do we go strong with the intention of winning the game and to be fair not a totally glam tie in the next round and risk injuries. Or wrap players up let them sit it out fresh for Saturday , no risk of injuries , booking or suspension. It would be really good to go to Huddersfield next week on a bit of form in the league

He said he was taking a lot of stick and gave some back which was all taken in good nature. Ramsdale does stuff like that pretty much every match I believe, I think its quite good that he shows a bit of personality and has a laugh with the fans.

Players get abused throughout the game , yet when they give a bit back we as fans don’t like it and get upset. Agree if Ramsdale was given the manual manipulator sign to the fans or booting the ball into the crowd , but he kissed a badge and stick his tongue out !
Look how quick the ‘fan’ runs back up the stand after kicking him in the back - clearly a coward. The FA have got to act hard on this - spurs should have a game played behind closed doors - may be harsh on the majority but clearly their security couldn’t stop an opposition player being attacked.

His approach to man management is to belittle and bully people - you can see this from his press conferences. If you are going to carry on like that, you need to be successful. Since leaving Leicester, Nigel's managerial career has been a litany of relegation dogfights and falling out with people.

Your debt is a millstone around your neck. You were almost subject to a transfer embargo last season and you have to hope that your sellable assets retain value or it is likely you will go the way of Derby or even Portsmouth.

First of all nobody apart from the players know what Pearson’s / Barton’s man management is like and depending on whether a player is playing regularly or not playing at all is likely to impact their response / thoughts. I’d suggest you look at Pearson towards Baker when he was paraded on the potency at half time. I’d also look at players like James & King who’ve come to city for Pearson.
Barton is doing a good job at Rovers but would I want him at city - no chance.
As for what happens when Lansdown eventually sells city - who knows. We could end up with a fake billionaire without a pot to piss in or we could be taken over and be be stronger due to it. Time will tell. But I’d rather have Pearson @ Lansdown at our club rather than Barton and Wally
