  1. I spent time at Warwick Business School and learned similar things. Whikst having clear strategies, you also need to be able to adapt quickly to changes. Bristol City are like that tanker stuck in the canal (Panama/Suez), a behemoth of cost that takes ages to turn around. Personally I don’t think changing the manager is the root cause. I think he’s succeeded in many respects this season. My gut feel is that there are ambiguous expectations and lack of reality across the club. But I do expect SL to wield the axe. And then we are into unknown territory again.
  2. Great post @BCFC Richard- I think your opening question is great. Good posts in direct opposition from @billywedlockand @Marina's Rolls Royce Too.
  3. Thanks for the kind comments. But I’m just a football fan like many others on here. I like writing about football and debating football.
  4. …but didn’t create the same set up as Brentford. Go figure!! I believe Ashton did moneyball with the word ball removed. Very agent based. You scratch my back I’ll scratch yours type stuff. VT05763 is Waconda - changed their name.
  5. I agree. Valuations are different to what someone will offer. Sometimes you value high because you don’t want to sell. You do the opposite when you do. It would be helpful to know what is happening with the contract talks of certain players. Otherwise we (as fans) are just totally guessing what might happen.
  6. I bet they sleep well in Guernsey ?
  7. Was meant to be sustainable wasnt it? That was the strap-line!
  8. Good post @italian dave A good business / football club would know the objectives, the expectations, the indicators / scores that drive the evaluation of performance, etc. The silence continues.
  9. A shade below par overall. Had some good games before his foot injury, which then hampered him. Been indifferent since his return.
  10. Don't say that....last week you had me thinking he might sign a new contract.?
  11. Be interested to see how they line-up with Kent not starting. Ward is dangerous on set pieces.
  12. That £38m on its own isn’t the issue, it’s the combined years losses for 2019/20, 2020/21, 2021/22 (this season) and 2022/23 (next season) that cause the “projected” issue. As it stands the likely losses this season and next (minus covid and ffp excludables) tip us over the £39m allowed. Can it be remedied? Yes, but we have to cut costs or raise income or combo of both. There is no certainty to any of those options. But you’re right, it’s not £38m we need to find, it’s a much smaller figure, but having already cut costs considerably this season, there’s less wiggle room within the existing squad to reduce those costs without weakening the squad. Rest of your post, I totally agree with.
  13. And between Sess and Mawson, they cost us £750k in loan fees and god knows how much in wages…especially Mawson.
  14. The plot thicketh Conspiracy theory: working with Ashley, pull out at last minute, leaving Ashley (who Morris won’t want to own DC) as the only option.
  15. Why is it misleading? Doesn’t want to sell his best players, so assuming that is the case, there’s little / no money to spend. Re poor PR, playing Devil’s advocate, is it any worse than saying “we’re going for promotion” and then wasting money on players that can’t get you there. Some might argue that was worse. But like everyone else, you’re perfectly entitled to decide not to buy a Season Ticket. If you don’t feel it’s VFM then completely get your decision.
  16. Mr P….here’s my latest “simplified” summary for City. Ive not plugged 23/24 into this version yet, but we’ll inside £39m. Likelihood is by that season we are following the new UEFA model which is more akin to SCMP. You wouldn’t be the only person to think the same. I suspect he is carrying an injury, but I reckon if he needed to play, he could. No ITK, just guesswork. The whole summer stuff is just so hard to predict though.

    Wells

If we are genuinely gonna go to a back 4 next season and Pearson ideally wants to play 433, then I would just be a bit cautious about touting him around cheaply in the summer. He can play along that front 3, and perming 3 of Wells, Martin, Semenyo and Weimann could be quite interesting (backed up by Conway and Bell). You could argue that it’s a position we don’t have to recruit in the summer….as we know goals aren’t the issue….and strikers are pricey! But to keep Wells (not 32 until June, and no signs of age catching up with him), I’d want to bring his wage down. Is that possible? Who knows. But I’d at least look at the possibility of giving him an extra year and cutting his wage. He knows he won’t get £25k p.w. anywhere, and if he got some assurances re minutes, he might be open to a deal. It would save us some amortisation next season also, and push it into 23/24, when FFP isn’t an issue. Plus if Semenyo went late in the summer window, you’re not scrabbling around, trying to find a striker at premium rates. I’m not saying it’s what I’d do, but I think it’s an option to consider as dominoes topple. I hope he finishes the season strong. A good player for Conway and Bell to learn from.
  18. Yep, not the messiah, not a naughty boy either. Certain things bugged the hell out of me, other bits I thought he was good at.
