    Subs were mind boggling

We needed fresh legs as West Ham were gaining momentum. All gave us more energy and even Cornick which I was surprised about in the position he came on did well imo

I'd argue it was not Max but a Defensive error 'Ball watching' at fault for the goal

That’s why I said partially, Bowen ran off quite easily I thought. You could argue he was caught in no man’s land but he did round Max quite well (thought Bowen was excellent today) but I didn’t think there was any tracking of his run

I’ve never had a problem  with max as a shot stopper (it’s his job) it’s commanding his area which we did have with Nikki mypaa ( spelling ) that I worry about . Although he’s much better at that now & calm . Let’s be honest . If you’ve got  a great shot stopper , commands his area & he’s very good with his feet then his name is Allison or Edison . He’s not playing for us .

Personally think he’s quite good at commanding his area. Does a lot of high claims and our record from set pieces has got a lot better since he’s come in to the team

Max’s shop stopping has never been in question. Today he showed that again and his saves in the first half from Pring, Fornals, and JWP were as good/valuable as Conway’s equaliser.

He’s better than I thought if he has control of stopping shops!

  4. Could argue that he was partially at fault for the Bowen goal but he also made two excellent saves from Bowen and Ward-Prowse to keep us into the game allowing us to grab the leveller. Great reaction from Max and the team today after that early set back

Nah tomlin apart from a few sparks was dogshit

I agree but I always think the main difference between him and a couple of others is a couple of sparks and we got what we paid for back. Pretty sure we terminated Palmer’s contract early if I’m not mistaken?

I used to think Nakhi Wells was our worst value signing ever but his redemption arc has been considerable. It must be Palmer now, absolutely baffling signing

In fairness, when you look at it 21/22 was a very poor season for him (even though he rarely started) his other two full seasons at the club he hit double figures for league goals. Not entirely sure he’s worth the high fee we paid but he has contributed

Everyone on here knows I like a good argument but I can’t with that

Could argue Tomlin but we got our fee back and he did contribute a fair few goals and assists atleast. That whole summer window and even the January window was a shambles with how it was ran

Today’s press interviews indicated “this boss ain’t for changing”…so similar set up / approach.

There was an U21 game scheduled for today called off. Presumably mid week against Bournemouth McCrorie, Roberts and maybe Murphy get some minutes, sounds like it will likely be Yeboah in the squad tomorrow

This goes firmly at the feet of our owner and at some fans who like a singalong I’m afraid

Lansdown provides the funds but doesn’t choose how we spend it, Mark Ashton and Lee Johnson are at fault. Kasey Palmer coming in is the most pointless waste of money I can possibly remember and that takes some doing

Coventry are home to Oxford so think we’ll be avoiding that fixture anyway.🤞

Didn’t they have Wrexham at home last year and lost? Don’t think Coventry take cups too seriously so every chance the game is on!

A ‘small tweak’ and yet he’ll be out for weeks?

was Ayman’s injury a mid-sized, or even large ‘tweak’ then?

surely ‘tweak’ is one week or even less out?

He was back then got another set back, Manning said he would be out for a lot longer.

Agree, nothing against the lad but not the exp midfield general I hoped for and we need now, a def sell on candidate not to boost us up this div this season. One for the future....again

Considering we were prepared to spend 2.5 mill on Azaz suggests to me that we’re in the market for players to improve us now

I’m sick to death of this one for the future business , Marvin brown , Dominic Barclay , tristian Plummer , need I go on

This has been in the pipeline since the summer, he decided to stick it out at his club so as a result we got him cheaper. We’ve had future signings not go to plan but we’ve also had some that have gone to plan, I personally don’t see too many downsides to this signing

  12. This for me was handled incredibly poorly.

    1. Sacking a manager for “no fear football” only to drop from the playoffs to a relegation battle is incredibly clueless

    2. A board member saying that you’re going to recruit in order to suit that style and therefore back Rooney and then sack him shortly after is utterly bizarre.

I agree with sacking him but the way it was handled was awful, interested to see who they get in next

Scrumps main point, to me, was the effort by clubs (and managers) attempting to emulate Guardiola as being a poor strategy, comparing it to the style yesterday, and that without tempo it means very little.

The Etihad comment is arguably wide of the mark, agreed - the PL as a whole has become more and more sterile.

The issue here is you just insulted the poster without any context. Then meaning you were criticised in turn as people thought the criticism of Scrumps post could be taken as a defence of the performance.

"Not Great" performance could still be interpreted as mediocre or OK, and it just wasn't - at least in my opinion, for clarity.

It was just very very poor against a mediocre Millwall side. Agree to disagree.

Obviously completely agree with your last two sentences and maybe my comment was a bit reactionary so apologies to @Scrumpys Dietary Advisor.. . I do stand by opinion though that the style many teams have adapted hasn’t ruined football, I also think it will work and we have seen it in games under Manning. I didn’t even think in the first half we were too bad but second half is up there with one of the worst half’s I’ve seen from us at this level

Yep ref let them play aggressively. I didn’t mind it too much but it suits them more than us for sure. He went through the back of Conway multiple times yesterday and I felt for TC a bit as not much more he can do. Would take a different type of forward to deal with that yesterday and we don’t have that in the squad.

I normally am impressed with how well Wells deals with aggressive centre halves. Considering his height he has a high jump and holds it up fairly well, maybe something that comes with more experience in fairness. Problem is think we need to sell before we can buy a striker, Cornick isn’t suited to how Manning wants to play imo but with him just signing a new deal last January not sure what offer we’d get

The problem with this is it completely disregards Millwall. Pretty much 541 and happy to draw 0-0 and have some set pieces with their giants all over the pitch.

Also disregards a ref that let them be physical and go through the back of our players and get away with a number of pushes in the back. No problem with a ref interpreting the game that way.

We are not a physical side and you can argue we could use a few more bigger lads. However, we don’t have them and especially up front. We also lack pace in general. To put this all on a style of play is ridiculous. This would look a lot better with Southampton’s or Leeds players. Truth is we just don’t have anyone exceptional up front. Hopefully this is addressed in January. One player of a higher level will make it easier for what we have in the squad already.

Really bugged me how Hutchinson finished the game without getting carded, good player don’t get me wrong but with the amount of fouls he made I’d like to see how good he was on a yellow

And what about all the shite inbetween?

    Bit of context required here.

V Sunderland, backs to the wall win.

V Hull, we were shite for 70 minutes.

V Watford, best performance under Manning.

Very much a case of the good, the bad and the ugly. Great to win 3 in a row but let's not pretend we showed real improvements in those games. A duck is a duck.

Being critical, it should be 5 wins on the bounce as Brum and Millwall were there for the taking and we put it two performances with very little attacking threat.

Why do you keep mentioning Pearson?

Sunderland for the first half I’d say it was even, but just before the goal we had a very good spell and it was coming. Second half backs to the wall as you said.

Hull I personally thought we played well most of the game, was just a period before half time where we switched off.

So what if ifs a NP side. His brief was to come in here and improve THIS squad of players.

Now we suddenly need new players go make us better? Bs.

Today was just as bad as the QPR game. You'd think they'd have learned something after 11 games?

We have, hence why we won 3 wins on the bounce which Pearson has never done.

You criticised SB for calling a dire performance dire and insinuated he was still drunk from NY - and said by return it was 'not great'.

It was a woeful performance up there with the S'OD era, was my point. To call his critique of today 'one of the weirdest posts on this forum' is some way off the mark.

Today was up there with the Barnsley game at AG back when Simpson and Downing took caretaker charge against Barnsley. For context in case people can't remember that far back - https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12220056/bristol-city-0-1-barnsley-carlton-morris-fires-tykes-to-victory.

I criticised the poster because he went on absolute ramble around Guardiola had ruined football and was a fraud which of course is absolute rubbish. I said the performance wasn’t great, that’s not defending the performance. Anyone who went today would know that it was probably the worst performance of the Manning era

  19. 6 minutes ago, Fuber said:

If anything your post above is the weirdest post I've seen on this forum. Period.
Today was prime O'Driscoll 2013 remastered. There's no defending today’s performance. Simply must be better - both tactically, selection, and individually.

Sorry what? Where did I defend the performance? Are you looking at the right comment?

Things went south today when James and Weimann went off.  We were being bullied and took 2 players off who know how to cope in those situations.  They looked like winning all 2nd half.

Agree with this, thought we looked a lot worse on the ball when James came off. Weimann doesn’t suit wide right but thought he played pretty well on the whole, would’ve brought off Mehmeti before him
