You could hear him hesitate on the word 'sucked', but there was no saving it 🤣

On a more serious note, they're a bit of a wounded animal at the moment. Many will be expecting us to put the nail in Rooney's coffin but wounded animals are often dangerous, we'll need to be right up for a fight on Friday.

Completely agree, I’m not that confident not only because our recent record there is terrible but they’re going to want to put things right

I assume everyone has had the Christmas email off Jon. I guess it’s a form of communication and the academy info was interesting but it does feel a tad “off” that Nigel Pearson and his staff don’t get a mention / thanks seeing as it’s a 2023 review and he was in charge for the bulk of it.

He should really, on the pitch overall think we’ve had a good year. Ended last season very well including the Man City game of course and heading into Christmas we are better off than this time last year. Him, Fleming and Euell deserve a lot of credit for it

The point I'm making is that for every "Nige would have won that game", "Nige would have done the same" I'm also seeing "we wouldn't have won that under Nige" or "Nige wouldn't have done that". ALL OF THESE COMMENTS, Pro-Nige/Anti-Liam and Pro-Liam/Anti-Nige have no basis in fact, we cannot prove any of it, and it's all getting a bit childish when we should just be enjoying six points in two home games. There are two or three posters who go quiet when we lose under Liam and stoke the fire when we win but they stick out like a sore thumb and can simply be ignored. I keep saying it, we need Liam to do well, the alternative doesn't bear thinking about with the current hierarchy of the club calling all the shots.

Yeah I do get what you mean there, my viewpoint didn’t change at the start of the month and you would’ve seen me comment after all games. In fairness so has the OP

You sound like you need to get over Nige too………

Have no idea how you’ve concluded that from what I said but ok I’ll bite. I was annoyed as you were when he went but we have a new manager who deserves more credit when we win than “Nige would’ve done the same” when they are not the same person.

Troy Deeney giving it large in front of the south stand. Think we ended up winning 4-2, Deeney got subbed off and started crying.

The last bit I made up

He was arguing with the fans sat next to the away bench throughout the entire time he was there. Bloke’s a helmet who has got loud in podcasts where he’s compared himself to players like Harry Kane

Why are you keep going on about it? Please excuse my passive aggressive tone in this reply, I'm replying in kind.

But as you are let's go with some facts.

That team was built by Nigel Pearson.

Sam Bell who came on as a sub and helped change the game, was produced by Pearson.

Mehmeti was a Pearson signing. You have no idea if he'd be in the team now or not. Yes he scored the winner, but he wasn't great.

Williams was able to come on and make an impact because of the work Nige and his team had previously put into getting him fit and keeping him fit.

I'd have expected us to beat the likes of QPR and Huddersfield under Pearson.

Fact of the matter is and you may not like this, we are where we are as a club because of Pearson.

Finally, did you miss the bit where I gave Manning credit for changing changing how he had us playing?

Merry Christmas to you and I hope in the new year you are able to move on from Nigel Pearson.

Not once have I said Pearson has done a bad job, obviously he’s going to use Pearson’s squad as he’s had no windows and 8 games in charge. But look at the amount of minutes Mehmeti had under Pearson and I’m not saying he deserved to start but Bell had a run of games without being dropped when he was really poor. With QPR’s new manager bounce and how well they started I think we’d have lost that game, Huddersfield can see your point. James never used to get subbed under Pearson, he does now not because he’s done bad but we need that energy.

Merry Christmas to you, I’ve moved on from Pearson I just wanted to say my piece on people bringing up when we win the game instead of praising the actual manager

Have to give him credit for realising it wasn't working. However it is a bit of a an annoyance that he made that mistake and points were dropped etc.

It was very much a Pearson performance and last night. Even the 3 subs were what Pearson would often do.

As I've always said, evolution, not revolution.

You seriously need to get over it, I’m not convinced we’d have turned it around under him. He wouldn’t have started Mehmeti and there’s no chance he’s bringing James off for Williams. Fact of the matter is, we’ve beaten two teams that were in the playoffs when we faced them, that deserves credit

I can see Williams and James going in the summer so wouldn’t be surprised to see a midfielder come in to prepare for that.  I love James but the only way I can see him staying is if he agrees to a pay cut and a bit part role. Williams not good enough in possession.  A striker is a clear need but can we sign better than we have in January with low budget ?  Hard to see that.

I think we’ll keep James, has mentioned in interviews he wants to stay. Realistically James/King/Williams are all out of contract and nothing is confirmed around TGH signing. So will need some continuity and James is the perfect man for that imo

Hopefully he gets some confidence from tonight he was really poor for the first 70mins

Disagree, last 3 games he’s been improving and running with more purpose. Could see him always wanting the ball which for me is a sign of confidence

Had a fair bit of luck in these last 3 home wins but it's really good to get the results so he can get to work with the pressure on him at reasonable levels. I moaned about the subs in Blackburn game but tonight his subs changed the game. Good interview with Mehmeti on radio Bristol too he is one doing better with the new boss.

Not sure we were overly lucky tonight when you see that pen given against us

I certainly wanted him to remain around the first team squad that season to see how he developed…rather than be carted off on loan.  I’d have like him to be watching and trying to copy Bobby Reid every week.  Whether he’d have made it or not I dunno, but it went rapidly downhill.

Performed decent for City but not great on his loans. Infamously made the squad in LJs final game

Ultimately, Nige, Rennie, Euell and Fleming were all sacked.

My own view is that there was no “if you get rid of x I’m going too”…I think the hierarchy took them as a group under Nige and deemed they were all deemed surplus to requirements by virtue of the relationship with Nige.

Fleming knew he was off didn’t he, it had all be done and dusted, they just needed someone to take the team for a week, whilst they tied up Manning.

Theres no way in my mind the first Manning knew about it was that Monday.

I personally believe the Fleming decision was down to if the new man wanted to bring in a new assistant or not. Manning obviously wanted Hogg in who he had for his other two jobs that he held

He also said yesterday that Coventry should have been 4 nil up by half time.

I'm not sure that was the case at all but he'll say anything to be controversial and to add weight to his dislike of NP.

I thought Sunderland were far more relentless than Coventry and whilst i also felt we were slightly lucky to win vs Coventry, Saturday's win was far more of a we got lucky there win. The stats certainly back that up too.

Ian can't be taken seriously right now as everything he says is through the lens of his dislike of NP. His support of Manning is also down to that.

    You're summary is absolutely correct.

Sunderland are a much better side for me, if they make the right managerial appointment I’ll go as far as to say I think they’ll go up.

Haha, you've all spent 2 1/2 years bashing Pearson for not making any loan signings then spend 15 minutes arguing that loan signings are not a good idea. Unbelievable!!

I always understood the stance on loan players, realistically a waste of money with what prem clubs demand. If it’s the right deal (TGH for me is that) then why not but for the most part it looks a complete waste

You missed the point, it’s about what a good group of professionals we have.  And that comes from the culture introduced by Nige, which most definitely wasn’t there pre-Nige where we had more than one bad apple.

I’d agree but that doesn’t mean he should credit for every single win we get when he’s not in charge. People need to accept he’s gone and just move on

  15. 12 hours ago, johnbytheriver said:

That goes for every manager, what they did today comes from Nige. Full credit to the players,we have got some great 100 percent professionals, LM is lucky to have inherited them.Good luck to him as well!

Is this what we’re going to get every time we win a game 1-0? Under every manager you have games where you scrape a 1-0, Pearson also lost a lot of games from being 1-0 up as did Manning against Norwich. Just a weird comparison to make imo

    He’s a defender.

Ask him to defend & he’ll give it all he’s got.

Ask him to make play constructively or put crosses in like Mark Sykes can & he’ll struggle.

I like him, he cost £300k from League Two, has a decent availability record & good attitude.

Despite the stick he’s got on here I think we have bigger issues than him.

If by some miracle McCrorie, Atkinson & Naismith are all back at the same time he’s a very decent squad player, if not he’ll keep plugging away.

Complete agree, always been a very good 1v1 defender but do also think he is capable of a good cross.
