  1. I've said it before we were doing Cotts a favour. Never seen so many crosses/passes hit their first man in dangerous areas. So obvious we didn't want to score.
  2. My observations of Williams is that he is a "pointer". When we are faced with an opposition player running at us in our half he very often finds himself in no man's land and will point at an opposing player, to no one in particular, in an effort to appear he is covering someone else but is actually doing nothing.
  3. I know I will be shouted down on my frustrations from yesterday but here goes. Our defence, playing quite a high line, were 5 players strung out, equally spaced across the pitch, watching/facing the ball. The QPR players were almost level but stood between ours. How do you see opponents making a run in behind when they are out of vision. Call me old fashioned but I like to see forwards marked tightly that far up the pitch and put under pressure when receiving the ball or making a run. I appreciate the advantages of zonal marking but the way we implement it is leaving to much space and time for attackers.
  4. First time I've ever heard Mike Summerbee called Micky. It seemed so strange I just had to comment. Agree with all your other comments as this will affect Manchester United so much.
  5. Wonder if he is any good on throw ins?
  6. Quote from gaschat. I saw that on Twitter, it was said by the catering manager Ian that there was a fault with the gas to the catering trucks which was why they shut at 2pm. The ticket machines didn’t work and neither did the team selection so all in all it was a bad day all round. So they switched off long before the ball boy caused their downfall.
  7. Presumably everyone knows about the guy who fits indicators to BMWs.
  8. Remember a centre half from deepest Somerset something along these lines ....... "he goes past one, be goes past two" WOLLOP, " he doesn't go past the third"".
  9. Read about Laurel and Hardy attending the speedway. Apparently they fitted it in between shows when at the Hippodrome.
  10. Almost correct, the cycle speedway track was at the end of Oakdale Road off Cadogan Road with the stream between Airport Road. If you check cycle speedway in Bristol apparently national finals were held at the Airport Lions track. Spent many nights at Knowle Stadium on a Friday night watching Bristol Bulldogs speedway team. Also a greyhound track as well and was situated between Petherton Road and Wells Road.
  11. I probably delivered their Evening Post then.
  12. Can't recall any horses there. The only horses I saw in KW were attached to Carlie Long and Eli's fruit and veg carts. Eli even delivered a cart load of manure for my grandad which we shovelled over the hedge from the cart on the pavement. George Workman also had horses and can remember going back to the Venture after a Sunday morning game and he was giving kids rides around Melvin Square then brought the horse into the Venture and got it a pint to drink.
  13. I'm from West Knowle and a founder member of Broad Plain House in 1964 when our U16 Fed team moved up. Went to Hengrove School and played in same year group as Trevor Tainton.
  14. Yes, dog track and speedway at Knowle Stadium back in the day. Airport Lions cycle speedway team rode at the track at Oakdale Road off Cadogan Rd and across the brook from Airport Road hence the team name. One rider's name maybe familiar to you; Carlo Mancini?
  15. Oh for those uncomplicated, joyful days and speedway at Hengrove where my friend now resides on the former track in Long Eaton Drive.
  16. Could almost pass as the old Blue Lagoon. One for the oldies.
  17. Sorry I meant the injury he is currently regaining match fitness from. Was there not rumours that after coming on as a sub he didn't make the next game squad as a transfer bid had come in but in fact it was due to the injury.
  18. Isn't this where is injury problems started last season?
  19. I believe subs were introduced in 1965 the season Big John retired and I don't think he was involved in any substitutions.
  20. Steve also has a Coronation Cup Facebook page that maybe of interest.
  21. As Gavlin said, go to Steve Sutor's Old Football Photos on Facebook. Tons of local football going back yonks.
  22. Appreciate what you are saying bit I feel those you mentioned were different type of players than the normal centre halves of their eras and would play a bit but not to the extent of being a classy " ball playing centre half".
  23. Webster has only been gone 3 years, how many would you have expected? Have been watching City for 67 years and I can't recall many if any.
