  1. yes, but both were in the last six of those games….. Thats turning things round isn’t it? (Im only half serious! The penultimate game was that home defeat to Sheff U which I still rate one of the worst games I’ve ever seen)
  2. I think he did. I’ve found a link to a BBC (??) article which says (June 2013) that ‘SOD has overhauled his back room staff and Brian Tinnion was announced as….’ But the link to the whole article isn’t working! One massively positive legacy of his time here.
  3. Very sad news. He was one of the reasons I fell in love with football and Bristol City. RIP.
  4. Yep! Unlike the doughnut - which is probably pissed off at the prospect of being eaten either way!
  5. Ha ha!! As I said earlier in the thread, I'm sure the club check this thread out hourly for a steer on how best to handle any negotiations!!!
  6. Mmmmm. Isn't the difference though that in the football scenario the player really can decide? Clearly the doughnut deciding is not going to happen, and in the world of basic economics, yes, the party prepared to pay more gets the doughnut. But Alex Scott can decide. So if I offer £25m for him, and you then offer £30m, the club may decide to accept your offer, but if Alex wants to come with me then the club get either £25m from me, or nothing.
  7. I’ve often wondered whether something similar happened when either Ralph Milne or Dave Cotterill departed?!
  8. ??? Much as I love a good argument about grammar and punctuation, you can tell it’s the depths of the close season, can’t you? (Or should that be “……..can’t you”)
  9. So Much Things to Say…….Bob Marley & The Wailers
  10. Agree. And I think this is a massive season for Conway. Like you, I see signs of that real strikers instinct. He can be playing well, badly, indifferently, but he just seems to have the knack of finding a goal, whatever. That’s gold dust. And if he can really step on and prove that this coming season then he’ll be worth as much as Scott next summer. Depends on the players around him too, as you say. But I also wonder how much it depends on the formation and style of play. Others on here have much more knowledge that me on that, but it seems to me that he perhaps relishes playing in a two up front rather than a 3 or a 1. (And has a definite understanding with Nakhi). If he is the genuine 25 goal a season striker that he looks like he could be then we have to build the formation around giving him what he needs.
  11. Yes, had mine too. Also the 4th. Sounds like you might need to get onto them.
  12. I’m not saying you need or have to. I’m just saying it would be a factor. Yes, if you’re a smoker then whether or not there’s an ashtray probably would be something you’d consider. If you’re not a smoker, it won’t be.
  13. I suppose that if you've already got NFC and are using it then that becomes one of the factors that you consider when buying a new phone.
  14. It all started after the Stade de France incident, didn’t it? And I get that big sporting events are a potential target for terrorism. But it’s all pretty half hearted and ineffective, isn’t it? It evidently fails to stop people getting flares into the ground, so I doubt it would actually stop anything more sinister.
  15. Taken Friday… (and please note the bin!!)
  16. Found this article by him… https://www.leedsunited.news/news/phil-hay-comments-on-han-noah-massengo-interest-will-be-difficult-for-leeds-to-do/
  17. On the face of it, sounds like that ticket transfer system should do what you need. I’m assuming you’ve got all your ticketing accounts linked. The only slight doubt might be that it’s being forwarded to someone who’s already got a season ticket, so not sure whether it will cope with that. It might be worth giving the club a call. They’ve always been really helpful whenever I’ve had a query on something like this. It seems like a fairly straightforward question. And there must be other supporters with children who might be in a similar position. I guess the other option is to just swap your phones around as appropriate for the day.

  19. Don’t look at the matchday threads August to May then ??
  20. But you said he wasn't a top class defender for this division and that he was "average". I just feel that his stats across his career suggest otherwise. Whether he was a waste of money is a retrospective judgement and hindsight is always a great help! It's subjective: I'd still argue that he's been consistently one of if not our best player over the 5 years he's been with us and that represents good value. I'd agree that the last 18 months when he was injured didn't, but that's nothing to do with his ability. But more to the point, your original comment wasn't about hindsight - you said that the £8m was "crazy money" at the time we bought him. I don't think that was the case. Pre covid that's what a half decent championship defender went for. We were buying someone with a great track record in the division and who we'd had the benefit of seeing for a season and knowing what he could do.
  21. On the contrary. Across the whole of his 5 seasons with us we've been in the top half more often that not (130 out of 230 match days). And if you take out the last two seasons, when he was injured for long spells, then we've been in the top half for a good 90% of the time he's been with us (112 out of 138 match days).
  22. “Good” is a bit vague. My post was in response to a post that specifically talked about him being ‘not top class in this division’ and ‘’average to fairly good’. What I’m suggesting is that his record in this division and internationally IS both top class and a lot more than just “average”. And, again, the point of my post, and the one I was responding to, wasn’t about whether it’s turned out to have been good value. It was about what we paid at the time we bought him. £8m was not ‘crazy money’ for someone with his track record and at the time when, as others have pointed out, the likes of Webster sold for £20m. £8m was what you paid for a Championship defender of that stature at the time. Pretty much every City fan was delighted when we sealed that deal.
  23. Gotta love City fans sometimes! Here’s a player who’s got two Championship promotions under his belt, plus another play off season, who’s played 28 times at full international level for a decent national team…….but who’s apparently not good enough for Bristol City and a waste of money. I know football is all about opinions, but sometimes there are some relevant facts in there too.
