NFL 2016 season

And while I'm here, I was at Metlife Stadium last Sunday for the Jets-Patriots game and was surprised how many people were there in jerseys or hats of other teams. I think I counted at least 10 other teams and that was just sat near me. They got zero abuse or comments from what I saw. You'd expect it for a game at Wembley but I didn't over there. Was at a 49ers game last year at Levi's and it was all Niners jerseys with the odd Ravens one here and there. Didn't see any others there.

Sounds like the NFL are testing the pockets of the masses a little more: the 2017 International Series will showcase four games. Add another perhaps for the year after when the new White Hart Lane/London Stadiums will have the ability to fit a gridiron on them. Could the owners really think that a London franchise is a prospect?

I really hope not, be a terrible thing! Keep the American franchises. Getting fed up of the NFL attempting to do this. for me it should've stayed at 1 game and 1 game only. The only time I'll watch the NFL here live is when the Bears play and thats it and that was bad enough sitting next to a Steelers fan who had no clue what he was talking about (surprise, surprise that it was a Steelers fan)

On another note, time to hunt some Lions...

Surely this can't be right? One of the hardest things a rookie has to get used to is how long the season is?!? REALLY?!?

Less than 6 months of playing time a year & they think it's too long!! And how much do they get paid to work for half a year at a time? Poor little soldiers, sounds like they should put more bye weeks in to stop them from having to overwork!!

It'll never happen i've had numerous discussions on forums about this.

1. They'll get taxed here, that'll hurt.

2. How long will it be before a player mis-behaves off field, there's no buying your way out of trouble here. See Ben Rothlisberger for example.

3. Travel, it'll be too much.

and i could go on.

Pie in the sky, it wont happen.

Discussion between commentators about Devontae Booker & how he's doing with his rookie year.

Apparently Bookers biggest thing to get used to is the length of the season as it's so long (he's not the only rookie who mentions this), I just find it hard to believe that for people who get paid an obscene amount of money for playing a sport that I can only assume they love (as I would playing our football for a living), that for something that is less than 6 months out of a year, they find it difficult!!

It's quite intense compared to what they're used to at college. Unless you've been invited to a bowl game the majority of college teams seasons end around Thanksgiving.

But as you say playing a game you love shouldn't be to much of a chore and i've heard from a good source once the students know they're going in the 1st or 2nd round it's Playstation and blow jobs all day at college:facepalm: so going from that to the intensity of pro football could be quite traumatic:clapping:

Haha, okay, when you put it like that I can understand how having to do a bit of exercise for $100m could be a bit of a wrench......

Mugged? Stafford tried to hand you his wallet on a plate to let you back in the game. Seriously though thought we were lucky but we fight another day.

Mugged by the officials, the last 3 calls especially were a joke... there was no holding on 2 of the plays and they blatantly missed the pass interference right at the end.

On the + side more pressure on Green Bitch to fail ;)

I understand what you mean, your Worship. There are many people who are fully expecting the NFL to announce the new team in Britain within a year or two; there are as many who expect the opposite. And can I confirm it is not just certain Steeler fans who are clueless - I've heard plenty representing every team and some were Americans! I can only assume the beer doesn't travel well across the Atlantic.

NFL London? At the risk of being deemed rational, this line of thinking is by far the more believable. It's nice to have a wave of popular support for such a momentous venture, but too many are missing the bottom line: will it make the current owners richer? It won't be about 'expanding the NFL worldwide', or giving a new fanbase the chance to join in the excitement. The NFL is first and foremost a private owners' club; it's job is to make the owners richer. Oh, and somewhere along the line there is some sort of game as well. The words coming out of the League Office are sweet and tempting, but ultimately non-commital unless there is a profit guaranteed.

Still, the impending threat of playoffs is making the games a bit more flavoursome around this time of year.

As bizarre as it seems the financial side of the NFL is run on a 'Socialist' basis. Every single penny each team makes is pot into a central and divided equally among the 32 teams. You have the likes of the Cowboys subsidising the likes of the Browns.

You have probably 31 billionaire owners relying on a socialist idea to make them richer, they wont be doing that in their private business dealings, strange.

If they do it will be a disaster for the NFL... why don't they just revive the World League again with the London Monarchs and hang, on second thoughts, don't!

There's an uncanny resemblance: the Baltimore Colts Marching Band (who woke up one morning to find their football team had packed up and headed out in a moonlight flit) still remain in Baltimore and display - despite now not having a team to cheer. Also, there is the London Monarchs Fan Club; they still rattle on like an unrequited spirit without a corpse to mourn. (I read stuff from them a while back!) It perhaps shows how die hard some people become.

I note that there are no bookies running a book for a London team. It would take a leap of faith greater than the one that put man on the moon to bring that about. The NFL owners don't do leaps of faith - they like surefire profits. To use the appropriate phrase: 'Go do the Math.'

But could it really happen? I mean, in my lifetime?

More uninspiring choices of games for UK next season.... The NFL are taking the p1ss now, its seriously devoid of quality in many respects but yet the people will pay.

Thats why it should go back to 1 game

You obviously missed the fact the Saints are playing then? :fear:

London won't get games that would sell out in the States, hence the Jags being over here a lot. Can you imagine Pats vs Cowboys at Wembley.....much better giving us Vikings vs Browns, and selling out Twickenham, and probably being able to sell it out twice over

True but for me its diluting it a fair bit now, 1 was more than enough. I know the owner of the Jags is trying to move the franchise to London, I just hope it doesn't happen

Tbf the Saints Dolphins seemed like the only decent game.

Some cynical but well-meaning people are speculating that if we can stomach some insipid games between perennial cellar-dwellers, then we will be able to put up with (arguably) the Jags franchise coming here for a full season. Imagine if we did have a London team, only to watch them crumble every week. Would we take it and happily trust in the Draft, or would it spell disaster? Those of us who followed the Monarchs of old still recall the terrible decline and demise. It's probably a worry that the League has in the back of its collective mind. We in Britain are very well educated and immersed in the NFL and we know rubbish when we see it.

Of course, you could always argue that the attraction of a given game is not predictable. Take an equivalent: would you get a more enjoyable game if Man Utd and Chelsea fought out a terse 0-0 draw or Burnley and Stoke conjuring up an end-to-end 3-3 game? Naturally, there will be fans of a team who will turn up for them regardless of the fixture or their chances of winning. Other fans will pick and choose what they believe will be the most exciting. You pays yer money...

I may be wrong but i'm sure now if a city/team wants to host the SB then they have to give up a home game for the International Series.

Teams with new stadiums generally have deals that tie them in for the 8 home games per season. (The Vikings played a blinder on that one:yes:)

So if we're hoping to get the current 'decent' teams on an away fixture.

My thoughts are if we keep getting dished up 4 games with 7/8 teams that are 'also rans' then interest will dwindle and the games will not sell out or get close to selling out.

Seriously hope we balls up the Cheese dunces season tonight, either Rogers will turn up or he doesn't (hoping its the latter). Our D is rapidly improving and have a few positives on Offense now with Howard and Barkley who has really impressed me at QB.  Not really interested in the Bears tanking the season by losing out the remaining 3 games for a better draft pick, the Jets, Niners and Browns have the highest picks anyway.

For once I'm rooting for the Lions and Vikes to win also.
