It’s simple. Manning out.

What follows is not about anything other than what I feel is in the best interests of Bristol City Football Club.  Having supported my team for 60+ years I’m not about to waste any energy on blaming, finger-pointing or bad mouthing anybody.

I acknowledge and respect that as the major shareholder and the individual who has invested millions in our club, Mr. Lansdown is the key decision-maker. In reality the views of us fans count for very little, nevertheless this is a fans forum, so here goes.

On the evidence of the last 27 games LM is not the person to take Bristol City forward. Having watched each of these games I have seen a team and individuals regress and observed a very rigid and repetitive approach from the Head Coach, in terms of his in-game management, general demeanor and public statements.

When he was appointed, I was prepared to give him until the end of the season in the hope that he was the man to take us forward. I have now changed my mind.

I see absolutely no benefit in retaining his services. In fact, I would hope the hierarchy are seriously considering relieving him of his duties in this international break.

There would, in my opinion, be a few real positives if they did so.

  • they would regain some respect from the fan base, many of whom were disaffected by the sacking of Pearson
  • a new manager or Head Coach would have the rest of this season to assess the squad and plan for the future. Although the hierarchy clearly stated that we had a squad capable of competing at the top end of the Championship at the time of Manning’s appointment, that is not what has happened
  • With eight games to go, we effectively have nothing to play for this season, however, the next eight games could be vitally important in terms of informing our approach to next season. I would certainly hope that is with somebody new at the helm.

Had we not sneaked a narrow win against Swansea City (with another poor home performance) the pressure on LM would be even greater.

Now is the time to act.

Manning is going nowhere. Sacking Manning would be the Lansdowns admitting they got it wrong - which they will never admit. We all have to “put up and shut up.”

Don’t agree now. The situation is going too far. Steve suddenly appearing should worry two people in particular.

The first priority imo is to get Manning out.

I'd prefer NW to the end of the season - no longer - rather than Manning.

Perhaps it was meant to be, if only very short term.

The chances are remote to nil though, especially as relegation is not a great concern.

What comes next is a secondary consideration to me at this stage. Manning has to go.

We'll have breathing space to think about it and hopefully decision makers have learnt their lesson and will make a far more suitable appointment.

Meanwhile In house most likely to see out the season and Andy King would do nicely.

City have had 32 managers/head coaches since I started to support them, as below. I think SL has been involved in the tenure of 23 of these.

There have inevitably been some good, bad and indifferent appointments in the last 60 odd years.

However, I can’t recall anybody who has so swiftly fallen out of favour, so quickly, with so many of the fans, as Liam Manning. I’m sure some may disagree and I’d enjoy hearing what others think about this.

I attribute this to the following:

Team and individual’s regression

His style of play and our performances

Results

His predecessor being generally popular among fans and many feeling badly disaffected by his sacking and the rationale for it

His personality

His inexperience at this level

Only one of those factors is not directly about him (NP) and I don’t see anything to suggest that any of the others, other than him gaining more experience in the Championship, is going to change if he stays.

He was appointed to get more out of a squad which was (although contested by many on here, including me) deemed good enough to compete at the top end of the Championship. He has failed to do that.

If he stays and is backed with a budget the Club will be investing in his way and his team, meaning we are landed with his style of play, personality and inexperience.

The time to act is now.

Steve being around may indicate that the current downturn, is causing him investment concerns.

It is no secret that he is looking for investors in the Bristol Sport Empire (https://thebristolmag.co.uk/lansdowns-legacy-in-conversation-with-stephen-lansdown-cbe/), after all, this is what his Financial Services company does - it brings in investors.

Potential investors would want to understand how the club is going to grow, and ultimately make them a profit!

Until recently (last October ish), I think that the plan for the future was working, and it was probably an easy pitch to potential investors.  Now, not so much.

SL/ JL/ BT going nowhere, and I don’t think that there will be any admission of getting things wrong, but I don’t think SL will want to double down on the current downturn…..

So, someone has to take the blame….. and that only leaves LM in the frame!

Don’t bet on it. Heard last night that there is massive concern from above and they are not as oblivious to the problems like we thought they were. If things don’t improve over the Easter period (or god forbid get worse) - I think he will be gone by the end of the season
