I’m no fan of Southgate by any stretch (& i do feel he is the main reason this team won’t reach their potential, it’s still painful to look at the stats from the Italy final) but he can’t be blamed for anything tonight so far! For the first time since Sven was in charge I think you can argue that a significant proportion of the team (Bellingham, Kane, Stones, Walker, Saka, Foden, Rice) are in the world class bracket or just below. And if you have 7 players of that nature, it then becomes reasonable to ask if we should have achieved what we have as a minimum or as a good achievement. He’ll in no way go down as a bad England manager.
