Origin. The phrase “you can't teach an old dog new tricks” was originated by Heywood in 1546 and is considered as one of the oldest idioms of old English language.

Can you copy and paste a link for that though?

@GrahamC has already answered the first part of what I was gonna write.

    The second bit is:

if SL sold us to a rogue (we can each define what we mean by this), what would you think of SL?  A good owner doesn’t sell to a rogue, do they?

So, if you think SL is a good owner, why would you worry about who the new owner is?  Surely good-old SL has the club at heart, doesn’t he?

He has always said he won’t just sell it to anyone, so again why the worry.

Its only my view, although it’s a strong one, but I just don’t buy the “be careful what you wish for” sentiment on here / Twitter.

If you genuinely think he’d sell us to a rogue, I think you should change you view / support of SL!

    (imho)

Well put.  You should write for a living!

I guess the worry is less about his intentions and what happens. I don't think he would knowingly sell to a 'rogue', but he also has some questionable managerial appointments and appointed Aston - something he doesn't even seem to regret.

My wife’s a Corinthians supporter and this is the kit she got a couple of years back. Inspired by the cracks in the walls of São Paulo.

As mentioned above, something like this - inspired by the texture/pattern of the bear - would have been better than the shape of the bear.

We seem to playing Bell and Sykes more narrow and closer to Wells. Looks far better.

Underrated comment from right at the start of the thread. There was lots to love today, but this for me was key. It gave us a much bigger threat ing the middle and Nahki someone to play off. We need more of this - When Bell is down the wing Sykes needs to be getting closer to Wells and vice versa. Made us much more dangerous.

I see zero sign that NP is off before his contract is up. Actually one of his more relaxed press conferences. Seems like he's just being himself and answering the questions asked of him. He'd like more money etc, but understands the situation. I think reading quotes form it in isolation and imaging his tone etc. is very different to how it all comes across here.

  6. I just don't get this level of reaction after 4 league games and 6 games total. It's crazy!

If you really think the performances and results after that number of games are indicative of how the whole season will play out then 1. I think you are wrong, but 2. You should also be considering how the teams we have played are doing.

Preston, we drew - they are 5th (joint on points with the team in 2nd). If they had beaten us they would be joint top.

Oxford Utd, we won - they are top of the league 1 and we beat them 5-1

Millwall, we won - they are 11th and 1 point ahead of us.

Birmingham, we lost - they are 3rd (joint on points with the team in 2nd). - we were terrible in this game

Hull, we drew - they are 8th 2 points ahead of use and 3 off second place. - We should have won this game - their own fans thought we could have had 3-4 goals.

Norwich, we lost they are 2nd.

Our three worst performances are against the team's joint 2nd and one of those we drew.

This is a summary of City vs all the Championship.  League Only - 4 games only.  Small sample.

The red blob is City, the other blobs are the other teams.  The thin grey vertical line (shaded out) is the average of all 24 clubs.

The further to the right is better.  For defending I reversed the axes, so further right is still better.

    Heres Norwich.

image.thumb.png.5cdb370ed10da3f393c05f1f0bf8435d.pngThe big question is how do we improve “us”.  We do need to improve.

@Spike wrote on another thread re some “flaws” in our attacking play.  I agree with some bits.

I'm probably totally misreading that, but to me, it looks like it's our pressing and passing that are the main issues (poor passing was very evident against Birmingham). Does that suggest in the passing were to click we would see big improvements?

It also show Norwich are pretty much the best attacking side so far this season. Again I'm probably reading it wrong. ?

Bringing  no one in shows Lansdown  interest  in city  as waned ,team in dire need  help ,millions banked can't tell me we can't do it wage cap he's set will see us relegated, we bring in players from league  1 with high work rate yes but low quality  for the championship  & hope our academy  will bring up gem ,already  we are hoping  a 17 Yr old kid will save our season.

Were you at the game? Were we that bad? It didn't sound that way on the audio commentary - just to be clear I'm genuinely asking not saying you wrong, just all I have to go on is the Audio and a very short highlight video.

Either way I think it's a tad early to say our season needs saving after four league games.
