  1. Just watched some of the highlights of Rangers European cup run and was nice to see 2 City ex Loanee’s playing a big part (we taught them all they know ?).

I know Kent was rubbish for us but he played great in the 1st leg v Dortmund and Tavernier scored the pen last night in front of an amazing crowd at Ibrox, what an atmosphere, I guess they don’t miss their time with us anymore than we miss them!

Yeah, hit the post, right in front of me. Not sure if that was on purpose but the one home to burton when he skied it definitely was.

Tammy that night away to Wednesday. One of the best individual performances I’ve seen in 30 years of watching city

Just remembered it could have been 3-1 against 10 men, but within a minute it was 2-1 10v10!  Crazy

Rumour has it our favourite love to hate player is set to sign for League 2 Walsall.

I can only assume he’s completely out of shape to be signing there? In league two he could be amazing… or a career ending car crash… watch this space!

Why didn’t you ever rate him as a manager TIn?

He joined Blackburn as their manager, kept them up in the PL when they looked vulnerable and in his first season there he also took them to the FA Cup Semi Final for the first time in 40 years.

In his second season as manager at Ewood Park he took Blackburn to a top 6 finish in the premier league.

In his third season as Blackburn manager he ensured they finished 10th in the premier league whilst getting to their third consecutive cup semi final under Hughes.

In his fourth season as Blackburn manager he finished 7th in the premier league.

He then took Fulham to an 8th placed finish in the premier league as their manager.

And as Stoke City manager, in his first season he took them to a 9th placed finish in the premier league, their highest league placing since 1975.

Hughes then took Stoke City to two consecutive 9th placed premier league finishes followed by a 13th placed finish in his following three seasons as their manager in the top flight.

Certainly not the most shabby managerial CV I’ve seen - so, again, why didn’t you ever rate him as a manager?

Thanks for the stats, I was aware of what he’s done (or not done) but it’s nice of you to help re-affirm my original position that I don’t rate him.

If you are impressed by his CV of winning nothing, and keeping teams in the Prem then that’s up to you, but that doesn’t constitute being a great manager in my book.

I think I will cal him Meh Hughes from now on, he’s just Meh as a manager, if he was our manager I’d think “Meh”

It’s a clear trait of any LJ side that they go into a steady decline during the second half of a season.

The proof is there for all to see!.

Sunderland weren’t on a steady decline though when they sacked him, yes they got dicked by Bolton but they were top the week before and LJ was reigning manager of the month!  Crazy decision to sack him

Fair play to you, some people just talk about giving people a second chance but to actually give paid work to a man whose life got so bad that at one stage he ended up playing for Rovers is incredibly generous spirited of you.

You’ve got to give something back!  In fairness he’s a real nice guy, would love to have a few beers with him and here some more stories from the Arsenal days!

I think Forest at home was worse. Take your point though. I was at Coventry and we didn't even play that well, even when 2-1 up. Should be a really good open game. As always, going to need to score at least 2 to be guaranteed of a draw....

Forest at home, 1-0 up at 90 minutes, about to end the record breaking run of no wins, Forest weren’t that great at that point, unbelievable stuff as defo a low point!

'The football is unrecognisably better'. Technically better certainly, but more entertaining?

Yeh I’m not so sure it’s more entertaining, but definitely more players are technically better and the football is quicker (although helped by better pitches and boots and fitness levels), but I don’t think there are as many great memorable games pound for pound.  For me the peak of the Prem was late 90’s early 2000’s, but then so was everything as I was in my teens early 20’s!

Tiny Gordon Strachan was brilliant for Leeds. “Dunno what they feed him on,” said the man next to us, and he shouted at the Arsenal defence: “Go on, tackle him! What are you, the Gordon Strachan Appreciation Society?” Arsenal’s David Hillier, not a crowd favourite, got a booking for his umpteenth clumsy lunge. “Send him off, ref!” shouted an Arsenal fan. “Ban him for life!” advised another. “Or longer if possible!” added a third. Watching the match highlights on YouTube (time travel is now possible), what struck me was that almost every player was white and British, and that the football was dreadful.

Arsenals David Hillier has been helping build my house extension in the last month!

Maybe if players, managers, the press and fans had been able to accept a referees decision, right or wrong, none of this would have occurred. Football has brought this on itself.

I also think the massive links to gambling companies now and the gambling on all sorts of football related stats meant that VAR was required to head of law suits.  I hate it though as it takes away something special about football, but that’s the modern digital world we live in!

Klose genuinely seems to love it here.

It must have been odd training with an U21 team for half a season without a contract, so maybe that is why he is so happy or maybe he is the sort who just loves to play football.

Needs to stay fit, if he does then another contract is a no brainer.

I work with a Norwich fan, nothing but complimentary about as he called him, The Legend Klose, really hope we can get him signed up for longer

  12. If I was in charge, my basic strategy would be:

    1) Only buy players from other clubs who are under 25

    2) Sell ANY player who doesn’t sign a new contract (so that they don’t leave for free)

    3) Ensure youth players are given a chance before buying

    4) Never break the salary cap for anyone!

Are you still watching on a black and white TV as well !

Tip - give colour a try.... especially when watching the snooker.

I remember my great grandad only had a black and white tv and loved watching the snooker!

Sky and BT and whoever else who show Prem or Champs League arnt getting my money to keep the gravy train going!

In my mind this still means Maicon, Stnakovic, Zlatan and Cambiasso against Reina, Gerrard, Hyypia and Torres. I refuse to believe that the Champions League has moved beyond the mid-2000s.

On the game. That is some loose defending from Reading.

Not having Sky I forget the Champions League is even a thing to be honest, it’s a complete contradiction in terms with 2/3rds of the teams not being Champions at all!

Current contract signed in 2019, yeah, he won’t be on much, not in the grand scheme of things.  If Pearson is trying to create a squad of more balanced range of wages, then if Weimann is on £10k p.w (all speculative) then you’d expect Antoine to be moving towards that figure.  We will not get a new striker of his type permanently or on loan for the extra £300-£350k p.a that is £3-4k p.w to £10k p.w.

Would be brilliant business if we can tie him down.

Was coming back from having my car serviced earlier and flicked onto TS…Simon Jordan was on with Jim White and I assume the “Martin” was Martin Keown.  Was talking about wages, and made the point that often Academy players are paid less than someone who’s joined the club from elsewhere.  Just said, that’s just what it is, but that predominantly it’s performances that drive a players wages.

That’s the same in real life, I did an audit at a building society I worked for on pay culture, where they had a salary band for each role, and was told by Head of HR the best way to get a pay rise was too leave, work somewhere else, then come back and negotiate your salary to get top whack!
