No chance, they only do that to like minded individuals ?

Not that this thread is about taking the knee... but I get the point, but you can always provide a "what about" statement. I hope you don't use Facebook, Uber, Disney+, never got on a Boeing plane, or voted for the Tories if you are that opposed to Saudi investment, just to name a few. We as fans, especially City, have little control over what happens in Newcastle or the World Cup. I've been to the last 3 tournaments but won't be going to Qatar, I don't plan to go to St James Park anytime soon either. What swerve? This thread is specifically about the cenotaph. If you'd like to discuss the Newcastle take over, start a thread on it... Again though, if you're that upset about Saudi investment I'd love to know what else you boycott in life to avoid their funding?

I never said that though, so not relevant to me? Ok, leaving it there, apparently 1 can mean something else to other people but the other can't. You can't see the double standards of your opinions on these two matters.
  4. I agree, for as good as Foden & Grealish currently are, they just can't do it against better opposition or with consistency. Grealish has started to be found out a little at City this year IMO, he's performed poorly in some of the bigger games. He looks exciting but often runs into dead ends or loses the ball. He does well to win free kicks, but often doesn't get the free kick and loses possesion. I think he has potential to be something dangerous but he needs to improve quickly at the highest level. I like Southgate, I think for all the criticism about his tactical nouse, he's done a great job bringing that dressing room together. They look like they actually enjoy international duty and because a lot of them have known each other a long time they are friends who enjoy meeting up again - as opposed to in the past when we've had club rivals meeting up and not mixing with each other. I don't think the importance of that bond can be underestimated, but Southgate does lack something. I agree with the comments about Italy, they were there for the taking and especially in extra time I was so disappointed with the approach to subs and penalties.

My point was that privilege isn't a good word for it because a white person from a poor or disadvantaged background (one I came from I'll add) won't see themselves as "privileged" in the traditional sense of the word. Anway as I said, it's moved away from the point of the topic

No you've taken the facts of what the players have said about why they are taking the knee, and said that's not true it means something else. You're now taking the facts of what your friend said about using "all lives matter" on a banner and there's no way it can mean anything else to anyone.

I think people like yourselves get too hung up on the word priviledge. Taking it too literally as having advantages or special rights. The poster who used the term Black Disadvantage put it better. It's not about all white people necessarily having an "easy" life, it's just we don't have that specific disadvantage that some people do. Anyway, that's away from the point of the discussion - threads like this were always going to have a political edge, it's a political topic. Not sure why it's still in the football chat tbh as for my mind the CSF has very little to do with football, I am sure many will disagree.

Why does distance matter? Black Lives Matter is an american political movement, so the knee here has no relevance to it then... but you insist it's intrinsically linked? You want to enforce your rules of speech / action.

You’re missing the point of context, it’s been explained many times. People started saying all lives matter as a direct response to BLM. I don’t think it can be explained any better than @IAmNick already has. Particularly the example of criticising say a breast cancer charity because all cancers are important. Or turning up to someone else’s funeral to tell them that your loved one died too. https://www.google.com/amp/s/theconversation.com/amp/why-is-it-so-offensive-to-say-all-lives-matter-153188 And just to clarify again I don’t think everyone at the cenotaph was racist. No one has ever said they all were, probably just ignorance towards the meaning of the phrase on the banner in the context of a BLM protest. Add that to getting drunk and singing chants that didn’t really have a purpose, whilst “defending” something that didn’t really need defending they just look silly IMO
  10. I remember lots of people wanting only one defensive mid instead of two, especially against Scotland. Who else would play there? Henderson wasn’t fit. So maybe not specifically Rice but that was the only real option for 1 CDM
  11. Interestingly playing in a dangerous manner is still an indirect free kick, reckless play is a direct kick and a yellow. Not sure the difference though?
  12. It’s what lots of people were begging for in the summer

Like turning up to a place where you are expecting BLM protestors to be with a banner displaying a phrase known to be provocative to the cause, I suppose.

The same “woke culture” who decides the knee must be political? They want compliance. You can’t say it’s not political because we say so. Anyway @Ska Junkie Nick answered it much better than I could.
  15. Haha 3 of us have created the same thread at the same time, oops!
  16. Surprised there’s no thread on this yet? We can all but qualify tonight with a win Strong lineup, arguably our best 11 minus Mings for Maguire? Predictions? Can’t see past a fairly easy England win, maybe 2 or 3 to nil.
  17. I'm younger than a lot of you so different perspective, for me it's more recent games. Palace away in the playoffs was special with that last minute winner. Bradford away to secure promotion was another great one. Man City away was almost incredible, arguably the best team in the world at the time

Been caught up a few times, more often in non-league to be honest than following City. Perhaps because I went away with them more often when younger, or due to less policing and no segregation plus often the big games attract a number of "day trippers" especially if their team isn't at home. I've had to defend an autistic kid that we were with away at Frome, ironically from a number of City fans who had decided to pick on him. Nothing much really came of it other than some gesturing. I was on a team bus attacked by fans away at Worcester after an FA Cup 1st Round game, bricks thrown at the windows etc. My Dad was punched in the back of the head leaving a game away at Merthyr for no reason. With City I've seen less but I remember a few, Forest away must have been around 07/08, possibly the promotion season and a ruckus in the car park after the game. Leeds away about 5 years ago, probably after the 2015 season we got caught up leaving the ground walking back to a pub, a group of 10 of us got attacked from all sides just trying to walk up the road. Swansea at home this season we walked past the back of the Atyeo on the way back to the Temple Meads and there were dozens of City about looking for fights, throwing things across the road at the Swansea lot. Cardiff away several times of course, police "tunnels" with fans either side launching stones and bottles of piss was always fun. I think you're right that you can largely avoid it, but not always. To say that these people only go after likeminded people is, in my experience, completely false. That may have been the case back in the day and their might have been some "code" to it, but not with the younger generation. To be honest that doesn't surprise me. My only comments about it was the getting pissed up and chanting "Eng Ger Land" chants at people - that happened, there's videos of it and the "all lives matter" on a banner that was unnecessary and provocative.

nothing to do with “the media”, but that’s always the go to excuse isn’t it?

I’ll repeat, no one said ALL of them were racist

I’m as patriotic as anyone, I don’t feel the need to waltz down to the local cenotaph, down a few tinnies and start singing England songs. That’s not patriotism, if anything it’s anti social behaviour ? Of course I love a sing song at the football as much as anyone, but this wasn’t a football match ffs ?? I think you’re being deliberately naive as to why a bunch of blokes would sing England chants towards another group of people, particularly a BLM crowd.
  23. I think the point was about the size of the clubs, fairly obvious those teams don’t have international players off to England, France or Italy ?
  24. 10th in the first season (takeover was September) 5th in the first full season and top 4 ever since
