The Nicky Maynard Thread (Merged)

This is screaming "either hand in a transfer request or sign a deal". If Nicky wants to leave, the only thing he can do now is hand in a request, in turn, helping the club not take the blame with the old "nothing we can do if he wants to leave" line. In my head, this isnt good news. This and the fact we're being linked with so many strikers.......

I can see Nicky going, Stead and Pitman upfront, with the new signing and Clarkson in reserve. Its all becoming clear..... NICKY WILL BE GONE.

I HOPE I'M WRONG

Aye but it can also start a bidding war with a club paying well over the top for him,

Its win win for the club really ether they keep our best player for a further 2 years or some club are going to pay well over the odds in which case the transfer coffers swell and we can improver the squad anyway,

If uncle steve really is paying david james's wages then I'm sure he can fork out that bit extra we require to keep nick here for 1 more season at least before letting him go for a lot more then what he's worth today,

Ether way its been said on vital that both him and carey are away on holiday at the moment and they hope the contracts will be signed next week,

Exactly - If he was so happy, I think he would have signed by now.

Does anyone else think the club have dropped a bollock by letting it get to a year left? Surely last summer would have been the ideal time to extend his contract? always keeping at least two years on the contract protects your prized asset??

My thoughts exactly, i was thinking about this the other day actually.. Its madness that we didnt extend the contract after he banged in the 20 odd goals last season.

Maynard owes us big time if you ask me, hes hardly played in the last year or so, his medical treatment wouldnt of been cheap, all thoes specialist hes had to see and operations, scans and so on! if he had a back bone he would sign and stay for atleast another year.

EDIT: not only that but we have been paying him to do nothing for 8 months.

When he had a knee injury that was serious enough for rumours of his career ending?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but if we had offered him a long term deal and he missed a good season and a half (not unheard of) or broke down on his return there would be plenty on here calling the CEO et al inept.

Time for a week or so of over-reactions and panic on OTIB following this news I reckon!

Hear what you're saying, but this is when the knee injury came up. I don't think too many clubs go offering 2 or 3 year deals with a potential serious injury to be dealt with

For what it's worth, this shit just got real. We've seen the last of NM in a City shirt, I just hope that he can go to a Premier League club and not to a rival Championship club. Hope CS holds on for the biggest offer and we use the money wisely. Am I hoping for too much there....!

Thanks Nicky, and good luck!

Club rejects 3.5 offer from rival CCC club............................not in the business of selling best players and certainly not to rivals....................nice once CS....keep it up

Where did you get 3.5 from? Its only good work, if maynard signs a new deal or we get a higher transfer fee - otherwise it might be seen as a mistake.

Problem with extending his contract last summer was he had a serious injury and no-one knew how he would be when/if he returned?

I think the club have made it clear that they don't want to sell Nicky and will do all in their power to keep him, however if he does go it will not be to another Championship side and it won't be on the cheap.

He sustained the injury during the summer - only discovered during pre-season. As Bris Red says, as soon as that season finished where he had just scored 20, we should have entered negogiations to extend his contract - thus protecting our main asset. The injury is pretty irrelevant, because he as recovered from it.... and it should have been tied up prior to his injury.

20 goals in a season itself warranted a new contract IMO

all ifs and buts Riaz if maynard stays for a season and leaves on a free after firing us into the prem we're 40 million better off,

This is why we don't run or are paid to make these sort of calls,

Etherway its going to be a exciting news worthy few weeks until he comes back to training on July 1st

3.5 million I don't know how true that is some one rang me and said it was 3 million, I said they'd need to double it for the club to take note,

Lets watch this space anyway

How do you know that he wasn't offered a renewed contract at that time ?

If he was, then he must have rejected it? if so, we should have sold him!

Plus, would we be offering a new deal now, after he had already rejected a contract??

This is going to be very interesting. I'm glad we've got Stead and Pitman thats for sure. With this in mind, I'm not as concerned as I would be if we jut had Haynes and Clarkson!!! Now that would be panic stations.

he didnt travel to sweden because of the injury so your suggesting we should of sold him in the first week of July? how many deals go through then?

He may not have travelled to sweden - but no one knew back then the extent of the injury - any how we could have sold him prior to that - the season ends in may.

a medical would of revelaed the extent when he went to sign at a new club.

we could of done but almost no deals go through then because everyones on holiday.

and you have to find someone to sell him to.

Not sure if the title to this thread is out of date or not, but if clubs are making £2m bids then that is taking the p8ss.

We bought him for 2.25m didn't we? He was young and raw then, and we turned him into a top class champ striker. You would have to say, with that in mind he should be valued at least double that of our initial outlay.

Certainly he's not with 250k less than what we bought him for!!!

My thoughts are he will only be let go to a Prem club. So we have to hope no prem club takes a chance on him.

He got his injury whilst on holiday - by which time, he could have signed a deal or moved on for big bucks.

My point was though, we should have tied him down on a longer deal then.

Or we could have offered him a deal once he came back from injury?

Thats an interesting point U&T

Why did the club go public with this?

Its either:

1) From a positive point of view they wanted to let all the other potential suitors and us fans know that they will reject bids as they don't want to sell him. They have certainly been firm in that regard with the wording of the statement.

2) From a less positive point of view they wanted to let all suitors know that someone has put in a bid, thus starting a bidding war to raise the price as high as possible.

I hope its 1) ............

How do you know we didn't try to sell him? There were plenty of rumours up until he got his injury. Like most people have said there are virtually no deals done in May/June especially the big money ones. Back then the club and City fans would have valued him at about 8 million I reckon, wheras his actual value was more like 5-6 (same as now). My point is if he had left for 5-6 million then people on here would have been screaming blue murder. Hindsight is a wonderful thing...

Leeds fans in disguise, big club mentality,we are big fish, you are small fry.

Never seen such rubbish, who the hell do they think they are ?

http://www.not606.co...p/56800-Maynard

I noticed! they need to be knocked down a peg or two by the looks of it! you'd think they would know better having been relegated from this division only 2 years ago! thats what money does to people though i guess...

protecting the value of your better players is not hindsight.

We are now in weak position to negiotiate.

I am really not that worried though to be honest - we've got Brett Pitman, who looks a decent goalscorer.

Just hope maynard does not leave for nothing next summer - that would be the worst case scenario.

There are 2 ways of looking at the figure being offered (if true). 1 would could accept a figure that would mean we had his services for 2 1/2 years for the price of his wages (almost like signing him on a free) or we could hold onto him for the rest of his contract and consider that 2.25m was a price worth paying for his services during that time.

As for the suggestion that we should have offered him a new contract after 2 years, I would think you could probably put forward an argument for that, but the idea that you should sell him with 2 years left I think is ridiculous.

I call it 'dillusional'

"We have alot better chance then Bristol. According to the bookies its a 3 horse race. Us, West Ham and Birmingham. Bristol havent got the history, training ground, stadium, fan base, ambition, money, attraction that we have. I would say Bristol city are only slightly bigger then Bristol Rovers. So god knows how you think its a sideways move. "

WTF? :laughcont: :laughcont: :laughcont:
