The possibility that the NHS might not go entirely down the pan, that you might get to see a GP with less than a month's wait, a vague possibility that you might see a policeman should you be a victim of crime, the eventual possibility that your children might have jobs and be able to afford a home etc etc.....

There's a lot more to it than just how much income tax you pay.   Have a read of this  http://benjaminstudebaker.com/2015/05/02/britain-for-the-love-of-god-please-stop-david-cameron/

A possibility, a might, a vague possibility and an eventual possibility, so not a lot of definitely's really?.

And actually the police in Henley are very good, the schools are fantastic and in general I have no complaints.

At the moment perhaps. To pare government spending back to Osborne's projection that may not be the case for much longer.

I don't base it purely on tax but the fact is I'm already paying a fortune and I refuse to vote for a party that would shaft me even more.

The last Labour Government left a right mess and I can't help feel there are still socialist tendencies there.

I'm a middle class, middle income family man with private healthcare. Labour never ever does anything for me.

Sorry I've been pretty happy with the Tory performance.

The economy is much better, cost of living is ok, tax is down, the pound is strong.

If you're happy with life why vote for change?

Do you honestly believe that labour will reverse this?, it was already happening when they lost power.

Indeed, it was happening before they lost power, the result of their PFI obsession.  How soon people forget the NHS scandals, the firemen striking ect.

You're kidding me, surely?

I never kid. Well, sometimes but not about taxation or I come inequality.

Obviously I was being slightly facetious, but this 'top 1% of the population pay x% of the tax take' is often trotted out by conservatives (The Mail get exceptionally irate about it every year) but it's a utterly meaningless stat. It's very difficult to find up to date figures on how much that 1% earn, the best I could find was 14% of salaried earnings in 2009. I would bet its a bit higher than that now, but seems a little unfair. However, on top of that, the same 1% own 44% of the accumulated wealth in the UK and all the tax. It's very difficult to estimate what the tax bill of these individuals should be but it doesn't seem unreasonable to me that the people who own 44% of the nations wealth pay 25% of the nations tax. Seems like a pretty good deal to me, though it's admittedly a simplification

What exactly do you think is middle income is?

I guess middle income is subjective.

I talk really of people who aren't rich.

I work in London, I see rich people every day. Driving the Lambourghinis, the Aston Martins etc - they have no need to budget, they spend what they like.

Those of us in the middle income need to raise families and budget and work out what we can afford.

That to me is the middle.

It's not so much a matter of reversing anything, Es. It's to do with how deep future austerity bites. Labour envisages a slower tackling of the deficit. Conservatives reckon they can return a surplus by 2018. To do that they'll have to cut considerably deeper. Their austerity will be more, well, austere.

A deficit they are major contributors to as a result of their appalling spending.

Are you forgetting the total basket case they left behind?

Tax and spend. They haven't changed or learned a thing.

The Tories picked up a mess and we are in much better shape and feeling good again.

You may be a middle income earner where you currently live.

But compared to the rest of the country your a very high earner.

A middle income earner in the West Country would be about 50k I would guess, which is 15k less than what you pay yearly in tax!

I don't know where you get the Man United thing from, I have got season tickets there but that is strictly for business.

I have had to take my daughter to One Directions concerts twice- which one is your favourite? I'd have you down as  a Harry Styles man myself.
