Yeovil Match Thread

Happier than you expected him to sound?  He had the demeanour of a pheasant the night before hunting season.  I wasn't that worried until I saw that.  Now I'm a little panicked.

Hmm, maybe. I was expecting him to be angry about the situation, but maybe it can be interpreted as him feeling a bit defeated. I was already annoyed about us not signing anyone but it was the reality, at least he gave a bit of a positive speech about our current (very, very small) group of lads.

Tonight's result is irrelevant. I would be saying the same had we won 5-0.

Agree.

TBH anything's irrelevant until the Championship kicks off.

Spud thinks SC and KB have "bolloxed up" but that is just a guess.

I'll wait seven days before I'll agree or disagree with that assessment.

He's bolloxed up imho.... he say's in that interview that 'there maybe some players left for us to choose from, and then there is always the loan market if not'...

Surely he and KB should be knowing the prices being asked for players...or a rough idea.

The fact he didn't want to talk about the reasons why these targets haven't been achieved, and looked irritated, for me, reinforces that what he wants and what he's allowed to have are different.

Wrong targets looked at....missed out on players to other teams, now left playing catch up and left with dregs or players other teams don't want or Loans.

That's how I see it.

I don't know.  He was frustrated for sure that's not necessarily with the club.  It might be that players we were confident on joining us pulled out at the last moment or he feels clubs are demanding unreasonable prices for players they don't need.  It's not a great situation in any case but that doesn't necessarily mean he's blaming the club. Though the fact there's obviously something on his mind he knows he shouldn't say publicly doesn't look good.

EDIT: Just read the other thread.  I now suspect I'm being over-optimistic in the above.

3m euros for Kodjia would appear to shoot this down.

As would a 2.5m bid for Maguire and a similar bid for Lees.

This is the bit I don't get.

If we are offering big money for players doesn't it follow that their wages will also be high?

The downbeat interview and the obvious struggle we've had to recruit also makes me curious why we were willing to let Cunningham go. When it happened I foolishly assumed it was because replacements were imminent.

I don't think we would have been justified in keeping him. Good servant whose been offered a great opportunity and a fee in it for us.

Making him bench it for a year, to cover a specialist role rather than jack of all trades, would have been a sour note to end on. I could also understand if he'd react badly to us turning down a reasonable offer.

Would all those losing their nerve be doing so if it was us who slipped in a last minute goal?

Writing off the season ahead because of a defensive mistake? Oh dear.

Oh dear to this post.

I couldn't give a flying ***k about tonights result or any other before the season starts.

Do you really think that this is the reason that people are panicking?...

...Christ!..

Don't know how many previous comments have been made about the game so I'll limit myself to just two.

Firstly Little is a big worry, he avoided pretty much all contact where possible and more worryingly he seemed to be unable to control his right arm in the same way he controlled his left, he can't be more than 80% fit and must be a big doubt for the first game.

Secondly the bench, I think we all have to agree that to go into a league game without a single player who could be called a genuine member of the first team squad is alarming, Waggy may possibly make it, but we are definitely weaker now than at the end of last season, stating the obvious maybe but nevertheless true.

Yeovil made I think 4 unforced changes and one through injury and didn't look any weaker for the changes, we didn't make any and I'd be willing to bet we are the only club playing a friendly this weekend who will play the same 11 for 90 minutes.

Just Back got Back

We were poor tonite

I know it was only a friendly but we had are first team out

Little is not match fit

The new striker needs time to fit in

And the bench is not very strong and SC knows it hence no subs used!

I'm getting a bit worried now as are first Game is upon us we need a good start to the season just to help are chance of staying in

The championship

good point. As no replacements were obviously about to step through the door its a disgrace we let him go. Forget all the 'cant stand in his way' guff wtf were we thinking.

I think his strategy has bolloxed up....but we may however find something left....it all depends.

He mentions in the interview that he only wants to bring in players that are an improvement on what we have....not the same quality.

For that you need money in this League.

That interview was all if's, but's and lets hope.

I thought our policy was to bring in young players who can improve....

If he wants Championship players who are better, with experience....then you need big bucks.

We are a bottom six budget....Pelling told us that.

Hopefully we luck out between now and the beginning of the season....but for me, SC's strategy has gone pear shaped.

As for the result....it doesn't matter....those same few players have been running and running and running, plus playing....hardly any rest and little substitution in last month.

Probably under orders not to get injured as well.

Can't see Little being fit for season start. Waggy a worry....couple carrying knocks, not even a keeper back up, apart from Development lads.

If we have let Greg go with no incoming....then I just don't get his strategy.

Yes we weren't too good but our game is about slick passing which is not possible on an unwatered longer than usual grass pitch. Thought the new lad was pk, maflde some very good runs in behind there defence especially 1st half. One great solo effort 2nd half as well. Like most other posters agree that we seriously need reinforcements to pad out the squad and the sooner the better.

Which is why I'm confused. Whatever our salary scale there will always be players to fit it..... Just shop in the right places. So either we've cocked it all up or SC is being stubborn or well I dunno

What pisses me off is that we all knew we were up by Feb/March,

I refuse to believe they would not have been talking budgets then and had feelers out for players. We must have had an idea of wages players wAnted a long time ago

This pre season has been a shambles as far as im concerned and to have such a poor squad going in to the opener is not good enough.

Spot on. I honestly thought a couple of deals would have been done and ready to go as soon as the season finished (or as soon as contracts expired).

We were up long before the end of the season and would have known jet, richards and Elliott would need replacing.

Very concise, I completely agree.

This could be the beginning of a turbulent time at BCFC.

We had Matt Smith here long enough to know/find out what an average championship striker was earning,

It can't suddenly become a shock - something somewhere has gone badly wrong.

I like it Pluck... One of the few silly but sensible posts on this thread and that, being an oxymoron, is exactly how this thread seems to be dividing opinion.

You can be depressed or just wait and see because the people who just got us two trophies are probably, just probably, in a better position to judge. And anyway, what is the point of being concerned or depressed? Does it achieve anything? The only thing it might achieve is signing another Nicky Hunt.

I think it's all a cunning plan to convince other teams that we have a cunning plan.

The rest of the division will have no idea what they will be up against when they play us.

I think they'll be able to work out the 11 players we'll be putting out pretty easily!

Everything is irrelevant until the window shuts.

A good start is important, as we proved last year, but the opening couple of games aren't the be all and end all.

I'd rather we make an eight out of ten signing in a fortnight than a six out of ten signing next week, just because of the Sheffield Wednesday game.

I'm reserving judgment until 1st September.

or not; we have to stay in the championship this season ...that's all... we will... and will have the players to do so.

The season isn't over in fact its not even started yet, it will be many months before I jump on the doomed band wagon that is this forum atm.
