To be fair it's pretty accurate!

It’s frighteningly accurate.
The biggest club in the area but is a double-edged sword as it means we’re a bit of an outpost and therefore not geographically attractive to some players (if you’re based up north, London, midlands you can join all manner of clubs without moving/uprooting the family).
i think we used to be a graveyard/retirement plan for players but feel that’s slightly less the case now.

I’m sure they have some decent fans but boy they are very hard to find.

They are doing really well again, their transfer record is excellent (bet there would have been uproar on here if we’d kept Lansbury) but they are such a salty lot.

Something about having an awful ground in a dreadful town really gets to them.

The BBC trailed our televised cup tie v West Ham in 2014/15 by describing us as: "the Sleeping Giant of the West," it's not like we describe ourselves as such. Not our fault if the BBC have never interrupted people waiting to watch Eastenders or The Repair Shop by referring to Luton as the "Sleeping Giant of that bit of the country somewhere between the Midlands and London, not far from the M1."

We're not giant, we're middle fer diddle (but not top of the league, sadly). The "Sleeping" bit is accurate, mind.

I don't think we see ourselves as sleeping giants if he's referring to the fans? We are more likely to eye roll at that tired broadsheet tag.

The rest though is deadly accurate. And one hang up about Cornick type recruitment is that players at the stage of their career he and Naismith are in now often have come here purely for a payday in the past, a place to cosy up and drift through their final few years at this level without intense pressure.

Don't forget, over the course of 2012/2013/14 seasons we picked up quite a few 'proven' and 'sensible' Championship level signings in the latter half of their twenties, and they quickly became mercenaries here.

I guess that's where you have the trust the pillars of culture we are told are being constructed by Pearson. And the biggest difference from periods past is that whoever the manager they will have a pool of young talent to dip into to balance the squad. Our academy is really what will set us apart from other 'mid-sized' second tier clubs in the near and hopefully distant future, and certainly from Luton.

1.2m Ade Akinbiyi

150k Mickey Bell

Semenyo has a bit of the Akinbiyi about him, very strong on the ball, powerful runner, explosive finish, and some woeful control and rugby type shots thrown in.

Both off the seat players, loved Akinbiyi and will miss Semenyo.

I get considering we’re the biggest club in the biggest city to never have a prem team we may be underachieving. But I also don’t see us a prem team, also think the footballers graveyard thing is ridiculous when we gave players like Scott and Semenyo the platform to thrive with the latter playing in last years World Cup and now is in the Premier League despite not going through the traditional academy route

Yep. I can see that. Although Akinbiyi was a 20 goal a season striker.

Luton fans are the most deluded bunch of ***** going, you have got to laugh at them. Basically a feeder club to us now ?
Also having worked there last year the town of Luton is in my honest opinion the in the top 5 worst places to live in the UK aswell - it is an absolute dump. Would i **** want to raise a family and live there..

Boro are rumoured to be paying £1.5m to Rotherham for Barlaser. He's a similar age to Cornick and also with only six months left on his current deal. So £300k for Cornick seems decent, compared to that deal.

Ones a defensive midfielder, ones a forward. Where’s the comparison?

Remaining time on contract and age is the comparison. Bit difficult to compare whats the going rate by position.

Also i was under the impression he was a box to box midfielder, more attacking than defensive.

The Ade Akinbiyi comparison with Semenyo, the former had a terrible time at Leicester iirc, let's hope Semenyo fairs better. Just did not work for him when he moved to Leicester (Akinbyi).

That said he is often hyped as all time terrible but 11 goals in 58 isn't all thst terrible. The way his time there is often spoken about though I assumed his record would have been worse.

But we sold him to Wolves - and he was ace there too. He just didn’t live up to his Wolves form at Leicester.

Anyone else remember "AKINBIYI PLEASE STAY" painted on one of the rock faces on Avon Gorge?

Worth remembering £1.2m was a lot of money back then. We spent a few mill that summer, whereas Watford who came up with us spent about £300k.

Watford were promoted straight up to the Premier League. We finished bottom of the league.

Classic Bristol City

I really liked Ade but he didn't have anything like the skill that Semenyo has. He was bigger and stronger though.

All (or nearly all) of the spend went on strikers which didn't help!

A goal almost every other game for Gillingham, us and Wolves. Didn't go well at Leicester but , as you say, 11 goals isn't terrible.

We've had a few exciting summers for transfer activity but that was my all time favourite.

Thorpe 1m, Akinbiyi 1.2, S Andersen 500k.

Three quality front men all at once. It was so exciting!

Didn't we also sign Testimitanu and Bo Andersen too?

Basically because every signing bar Akinbiyi was baffling.

£1m for Tony Thorpe who never scored goals at Championship level in his entire career, a third new striker in Soren Andersen who like Ade, didn’t hold the ball up.

Ward trying to convert a crap defender in Carl Hutchings into a midfielder.

Julian effing Watts, not exactly our finest hour.

We remember it so differently ?

Anderson scored a brace on debut didn't he and both were lovely goals. Akinibiyi hit 20 and Thorpey turned out to be a bit more of a league 1 legend but was still a quality forward.

There’s a reason we finished 24th.

Thorpe is a myth, lazy League One player.

We needed better than Watts & Hutchings & wasting money on him cost us.
