It's now God Save The King.

Agree in stadiums this week fans will sing GSTQ if games go ahead, but the Coronation I presume will be next year. At the World Cup, we will be singing GSTK.

I think I’m using the word coronation wrong, I meant the event that will take place today/tomorrow?

I think this is something people don’t consider the severity of. The coronation of a king and the gathering of so many people is likely a huge security risk.

I alluded to it earlier that sport could be postponed if not simply for safety and allocation of resources (police, medical, security etc)

What???

I think they are now trying to fulfil the fixtures. Public mood probably playing a big part. Backlash going in the opposite way to what they expected. Practicalities and policing the big obstacle. But for City vs PNE you need what, 10 rozzers?

I'm guessing the london games will be a problem although looking it's only really Fulham v Chelsea tomorrow.

If a prominent black person died and a white person previously convicted of racism against a Police Officer tweeted the equivalent they WOULD lose their job and be labelled a racist for life. You either believe in equality or you don’t, it can’t be one sided. What he’s posted is incitement (not everyone will react but enough will). If he gets fired he can have no complaints.

He will no doubt have a clause in his contract that deals with behaving in ways that could harm the company.  His comments may possibly cost the station listeners and ultimately advertising cash if he is retained.  He is perfectly entitled to feel the way he does, but this certainly would have been a situation that he will have been better off having those thoughts and not sharing them on a global platform.

No one is forcing anyone to mourn?

Like it or not, the queen was our head of state for 70 years and she held a special place in the majority of people's lives.

We will never see anything like this in our life times. We are living through history in real time.

By the same token you are trying to force people to go to football matches who would probably rather not.

Not sure what part of ‘it’s personal choice’ you don’t understand

EFL Statement: EFL schedule to be postponed - News - EFL Official Website

Further to discussions on Friday morning it has been determined that all EFL fixtures from 9-10 September will be postponed as a mark of respect by the National Sport to the passing of HRH Queen Elizabeth II.

This is aligned with the approach that the Premier League and the FA will take with their competitions this weekend.

Further information, in respect of how football, Clubs and their supporters will commemorate Her Majesty’s reign will be confirmed at an appropriate point.

Details regarding rearranged games will be announced in due course.

My opinion….ridiculous over-reaction to something that genuinely affects a small number of people.

It’s the wrong decision , the world is carrying on people are at work together, you can go to a pub and have a beer , a restaurant and have a meal. For me either you have national mourning and everything closes for a set period or you don’t. If you want to mourn , that’s fine and your wishes should be respected , you don’t have to go to the pub, restaurants , theatre or sport. Would completely understand if the funeral was tomorrow but it’s not.

Ridiculous decision. This country can be very backwards at times.

I would wait to see why before making comments like above

We already know that it is a massive stretch on the police etc around the country, the last thing they needed was needing to allocate additional resources to a sporting event

Just look at it like it pissed down and the ground is flooded

We will get over it, people will be able to get refunds, yeah is a small inconvenience but not the end of the world

I get you. But he's King from the Queen's last breath.

Yea I get that but there’s some sort of ceremony today/tomorrow isn’t there? Where the new anthem will presumably played for the first time - that’s what I was (badly) getting at.

I’m rambling now, forget it ?

On a pure selfish City perspective this isn't good news. We travel to Norwich and Burnley in the next week and then have an international break. We have been gathering some momentum, especially at home games. No home match for us for a month.

The question now will be, when will the Preston game get played?

Next obvious gap is October 11th/12th - meaning we have 4 Home games in the space of 14 days, with a trip to Brum thrown in as well

After that, it looks like October 25th, between Reading Away and Swansea at home.

After that, could be 2023 as the W/C schedule will kick in, which is less than ideal as we will also have FA Cup and potential league cup 4th round to deal with.

Busy times ahead.

Absolute joke to cancel this weekends fixtures. People can still pay respect at football.
why are others expected to continue in their jobs yet footballer aren’t? And what are those whereby football is their life or job on a weekend supposed to do? Sit and watch the same monotonous shit on every channel regarding the queen for 10 days?

absolutely the wrong decision and it now makes the fixture schedule even more hectic having to rearrange said fixtures considering it’s broken up by a farcical World Cup.

Really surprised by this.

I can understand if games are off today, just over 24 hours after the event, but the whole weekends program seems way over board.

Exactly this. I'd totally understand things being cancelled yesterday and today but I don't feel it at all disrespectful to go ahead with a game of football.

I've also seen the Last Night of the Proms has been cancelled. To me, that feels even more appropriate to go ahead with it in the circumstances.

It’s not policing. If it was that then the Prem and Champ may be off but Stevenage against Sutton wouldn’t be.

Its just a ridiculous decision to pander to people who think we should all wear black and mourn for 10 days, yet still work.

I understand it from a respect POV.

I do not understand it from an economic POV. We are in a cost of living crisis, and we are stopping many many businesses generating much needed income this weekend.

It'll affect a huge amount of low paid workers who won't get paid for the loss of football.

Not a very nice man, perhaps, but I'm not sure he has ever been convicted of racism.

In January 1999, Sinclair was convicted of causing criminal damage to a car, following a night of drinking with other West Ham players at the club's Christmas party in Romford.

In November 2017, Sinclair was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, common assault and criminal damage after a woman was hit by a car in Lytham St Annes. On 2 January 2018, Sinclair was convicted of drink driving, urinating in a police car and racially abusing a police officer by calling him a 'white c***'. He was sentenced to 150 hours of unpaid work, disqualified from driving for 20 months and ordered to pay £500 compensation to the abused police officer.

You’ve quoted it right there ?‍♂️

I don't see how it is disrespectful to be honest. You might even find the crowds stand together to show their respect during the games.

This forced mourning will just piss people off - and we have another 10 days of blanket coverage. Totally OTT.
