I haven’t read the replies to the OP’s question but I’m guessing as there are nearly 300 replies, none of them are yes or no?

Tomorrow’s games have all been postponed, which is as clear an indication as any that Saturday’s will be, as well.

Man in the middle has nailed it for me.

Come back recently from watching my boy play a friendly up at briz juniors. Her Majesty passed away during the game.We didn’t know but after all watched the tv in the clubhouse and paid our respects.

She was an absolute legend .For me play the game and a minute silence along with the national anthem.

God save the queen?

Tour of Britain cycling event planned for Glos & South Glos on Friday has been cancelled.
It’s sad news, as the kids in our school have spent the week making flags and banners for the cyclists as they come through the village, so they will be disappointed.

Why are you awaiting anything ? There will be the usual national grieving period that any nation goes through when a monarch or head of state dies.

I'm not. I was referring to the official EFL statement on this matter as per Fev's post earlier. Unless I misread it the EFL stated they were awaiting the guidelines

Yep, had plans for this, and as opposed to any weekend postponements, no chance of this being rearranged. Huge shame Harry

To me, this is relatively simplistic.

Football is an industry/entertainment/work for the players.

There isn’t a mass shutdown of other workplaces. Tomorrow I have to work as do most, and there is no expectation of not working because the Queen has died. Pubs, shops and other areas where people gather won’t close on Saturday. So, football, if it closes, is being made an exception.

I totally agree with closure on the day of the funeral. But the country will not come to a standstill for life until that point and people will still need to work, engage and socialise. Cancelling football two days after the Queens passing is unnecessary and as has been said will cost people and companies money.

There is only one rational decision here.

Spot on

if only the world would see sense and actually do it, I highly expect them not too

utter, ******* madness.

I'm thinking we might not play again until October 1 unless one of the next 3 games is rearranged for Tuesday 20th or Wed 23rd.

I make this assumpton as the country is in mourning until 19th

That won’t happen due to international break release timings.

Realistically cancelling Saturday also means cancelling Weds and next weekend. The most logical one to cancel is Burnley as it’s the weekend of the funeral AFAIK, if not on the day.

That's my thinking too, if the state funeral is Saturday the the game will be moved to Friday or a Sunday, with the possibility of a bank holiday

No worries, thought I was creating an argument I wasn't really looking for . Had a soft spot for old Queenie.

Me either . Was arguing with the toss pot too much . Still , some people are just morons.
I sort of agree with many. On one hand I get the protocol & history in a ten day mourning of a monarch .
I’d also love to be at Ashton gate Saturday singing the national anthem with everyone & cheering the boys on.
It’s been a tough few years for everyone & football is a release

There is, counter intuitively, no provision for a Bank Holiday in Operation London Bridge.

To put my cards on the table, I won’t be mourning the Queen - i have immense sympathy for the family but she means nothing to me. I’m not going to throw my toys if we get cancellation, enforced mourning period and no bank holiday, but what I would say is that there will (as the thread shows) people who will be very aggrieved if that ends up being the case.

On a broader point, Charles does have a difficult PR position to be accepted. He (or more pertinently his advisors - I think he should be concentrating on himself and his family) can help him get off on a good footing with the immediate decisions here.

Thanks for the update.

I was planning on riding up to Stinchcombe to watch it.

A great shame for everyone involved and no doubt a not inconsiderable amount lost to local traders and eateries along the route.

What happens on the 10 days of mourning?

According to Politico, the day the Queen died - September 8, 2022 - will be referred to as D-Day.

Every day afterwards will be referred to as D+1 and D+2 and so on.

D+1

The day after the Queen’s death is the start of the ten days of mourning.

The Accession Council will meet at St James’ Palace to proclaim King Charles the new sovereign.

Hundreds of people will be in attendance, including the Prime Minister and senior government ministers.

Later in the day, MPs will then have their chance to offer tributes to the Queen in the House of Commons.

D+2

The next day will see the Queen’s coffin returned to Buckingham Palace.

According to Politico, there are numerous plans in place to facilitate the transportation of her body – depending on the location of her passing.

The Queen passed away at Balmoral in Scotland.

But reportedly plans were in place in the event of her death at other stately homes including Sandringham and Windsor Castle.

The PM and ministers will attend a reception to welcome the coffin into the capital.

D+3, D+4

On D+3 King Charles will receive the motion of condolence at Westminster Hall.

After duties in London, Charles will embark on a tour of the UK, visiting Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

In the capital, there will be a rehearsal for the procession of Her Majesty’s coffin from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster.

D+5

The Queen’s coffin will be taken from Westminster Hall and travel through crowds of thousands of mourners by gun carriage to Westminster Abbey.

A service will follow.

D+6 to D+9

The Queen’s body will lie in state in Westminster Hall until her funeral.

The coffin will be on a raised box and will be accessible to the public for 23 hours per day for three days.

D + 10

The state funeral itself will be held at Westminster Abbey.

There will be a two minutes’ silence across the nation at midday.

Processions will take place in London and Windsor, with thousands expected to attend.

There will later be a committal service in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle before the Queen is buried in the castle’s King George VI Memorial Chapel.

I read that the funeral is 10 or 12 days from the day after the death.

If that’s correct the funeral will either been on the Sunday or Tuesday, I can’t imagine it will be the Sunday. So potentially Monday the 19th or Tuesday 20th.

PREMIER LEAGUE chiefs will decide on Friday whether to cancel this weekend’s fixtures following the death of The Queen.

But while there will be no order banning sport, it is thought likely League bosses will agree calling off matches is the right decision.

It comes after Friday's racing programme and the second day of England’s final Test against South Africa at The Oval, last night’s Premiership Cup match between Northampton and Saracens and tonight's two scheduled EFL games were postponed, although Manchester United, Arsenal and West Ham’s European games all went ahead.

An EFL statement read: "As a mark of respect, following the passing of Her Majesty, The Queen Elizabeth II earlier today, the EFL has confirmed that its fixtures scheduled for tomorrow evening (Friday 9 September) – Burnley v Norwich City and Tranmere Rovers v Stockport County - have been postponed.

"A determination regarding the remainder of this weekend’s scheduled fixtures will be made following a review of the official mourning guidance, in addition to further consultation with DCMS and other sports on Friday morning. "

The Government is not planning to enforce a shutdown in sport as the UK enters 10 days of national mourning following the passing of the longest-reigning Sovereign in British history.

But Prem chief executive Richard Masters and his board are aware of a potential backlash if they play the weekend’s matches as scheduled.

And another factor is the potential drain on police resources as towns and cities up and down the land pay tribute to The Queen after her 70-year reign.

A final call will be made by lunchtime with Premier League chiefs aware that clubs will be setting off for overnight stays ahead of Saturday's games and that fans also will need to know if they are travelling.

But while there will be no Government action to block sports fixtures from taking place, football, rugby and racing in particular are thought to be leaning towards postponements, while there is speculation that the entire Test might be cancelled.

So far there has only been a brief statement by the ECB, which said: “Following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Friday’s play between England and South Africa men at The Oval, along with all scheduled matches in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, will not take place.

“For fixtures beyond Friday, updates will be provided in due course.”

Matches are still likely to take place over the coming 10 days after this weekend although sports bodies will be expected to mark the passing of Her Majesty at the age of 96.

That will see fans and players asked to respect one-minute silences before games, the national anthem also to be played and black armbands worn.

If the weekend’s football matches are called off it will be a break with precedent from the last time a monarch died in the middle of the football season.

A full Football League fixture list, including the North London Derby between Spurs and Arsenal, took place on Saturday February 9 1952, three days after the death of King George VI.

The Government has contacted sports bodies to make it clear they have the final say on whether fixtures should be played - with a green light if there are suitable marks of respect paid.

MInisters accepted that it would not have been feasible for the games at Old Trafford and the London Stadium to have been postponed when thousands of fans were already at the ground when the confirmation of The Queen’s death came last night.

But it is expected that no sporting events will take place during the Queen’s funeral parade and service, expected to be on Monday September 19, although any night matches would be allowed to get ahead

Just in purely football terms, Fridays match between Burnley and Norwich is off. If other games are on, we play Preston on Saturday and Norwich on Wednesday. From this very narrow perspective, it would be better for us to have at least Saturdays games pulled.

Trivial in the great scheme of things, no more than an observation.
