Reckon they would do LJ until end of season haha

And if they get rid of Tinnion (Wont happen)

The Technical Director Role (if they surprised us and did -  really wouldn’t surprise me)

  2. Fair play @Davefevs for nailing your colours to the mast regarding making a decision on LM

big big spotlight on Tinnion right now who , if remotely professional, should be assessing every aspect of LM right now and the indicators going forward

People say ‘Don’t want to be a Club that sacks it’s managers every few months’ etc etc

We are not , we are probably the other way and not ruthless enough,

But I’ve always believed that far,  far , worse is hankering down on a bad decision and compounding it

(ie For example burning money on a coach who you don’t believe in)

Good decision makers also realise when they’ve made bad ones and put personal ego or face to one side and rectify them

As I’ve said before ........  Over to you Brian

But if ppg over the last 6 is superior to that over the last 12 then surely momentum is going upwards?

I'm not arguing this is the case by the way, but it ably demonstrates the absurdity of an arbitrary selection of a single set of matches in an attempt to demonstrate any kind of meaningful point.

As @TheReds says...why not go for the last 13, 14, or 15 games...oh they were all wins and gives us 1.2ppg over 15. Not play off form, but we'd be far above 23rd in the table.

I'm not happy, but the debate and conversation needs to be based upon consistent measurement of delivery if it's to have any meaning or interest.

Certainly the attitude that the EFL takes.

If we are squabbling regarding what period of games

Let’s keep it simple - his record since arriving - not good is it

And , putting stats aside it’s about watching and listening to all the surrounding indicators as well

I must admit I do find it confusing from Ian.

if you have a club source who would rather be anonymous (BT) then defending them blind saying they had no involvement with the LM appointment is completely bizarre. It’s as though he doesn’t realise people have sussed out who it is giving him information and instead of now balancing it out and at least attempting to make it seem as though BT is not the source he’s doubling down and making it worse.

It’s like some sort of Alan Partridge skit

It was both completely hilarious and completely cringeworthy as he squirmed and sighed desperately trying to absolve Tinnion of any blame

    What a Clown

I’m not sure we did either - it wasn’t really a marked change in style, it was more containment (and don’t get me wrong, it worked well). I’ve put on another post the “biggest bit” was again the lack of game management and adaptability has been my biggest concern since day one (one day I’ll pull all my post match comments under Liam - there’s a theme!) - we set up pretty well and contained them, the issue was that when Ipswich changed tack - mainly the added pace - we didn’t react.

And to be clear, that’s on Liam - a blind man with a bag over his head would have known a not fully fit Pring would either need changing or additional support against Burns (harsh on Mehmeti to take him off maybe but Roberts being brought on post Conway goal if not earlier would have made sense)

Better performance - expected, we had less of the ball. Fatal flaw of game management remained.

Very much in line with your thoughts and posts SD , as normal

As each game passes it becomes more striking that not only is he a process coach - ‘keep doing these things and it will come together’

But he’s a planner planner , a pre match planner,  as I’ve highlighted by his immediate acquisition of Krause in a pretty unusual dual role (Of which I can see some sense tbf)

His (LM) influence or impact appears diminish or dissapears at that point

In game tweaks , reactions , absent

    Trust the process’

Its almost akin setting your side up pre match in a computer game , scheduling & pre planning substitutions , pressing play and then just watching what happens

Not only would I suggest his pre planning successes are ‘mixed’ but in honesty his in game management looks woeful right now.

I'm sure he can deliver good ‘technical’ sessions on the grass  , putting together a winning formula on a Sat afternoon , being smart and adaptable ‘on the hoof’ , and getting the best out of players and man management are all vital assets and skills if you want to be a HC and certainly at this level or above.

Being brutal , I can’t see where he’s demonstrated any great ability atm in these key areas and I’d be interested for any who believes he has to explain where.

The signs are not good and comes back to the question of whether you back him and whether he justifies , and actually deserves , the nest egg and a squad rebuild

Lee Johnson’s four year tenure saw a significant shift, from the club being a yo-yo Championship relegation/L1 promotion club to being an established mid table (even, dare I say it, top half!) Championship club.

If we can get a similar degree of shift out of a four year Liam Manning tenure (to yo-yo PL/Championship) then I for one will be happy.

Leaving us with a completely dysfunctional squad and significant FFP concerns for the forthcoming years

Another HC you backed heavily and continually , even against the overwhelming majority towards the end . as you are laying out battlements for LM

Yet you were anything but supportive of NP

With the miles you do you absolutely have the right , more than most of us , to have your views  - but I do find it , from clearly a passionate supporter of the Club , very strange

No signs at all? To start with we kept the ball more which I think was overdue if we were going to progress as a team. Watford away, West Ham, Forest away. Then the Southampton game, 4 games ago, was the best performance by a City team I’ve seen in a good while, regardless of how we played tactically and similarities to NPs. Certainly the most convincing performance against an ex Prem team given our record has been appalling against them in recent times.

Look last few games are concerning, I’m not glossing over the big issues we have. I just don’t think it’s been nothing but decline since he took over 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Resilient in the cup games and Southampton was our best all round performance probably for years , but an outlier right now

We are 22nd in the form table since Boxing Day , not over 3 games

    Only doomed Rotherham worse

I think we will be fine, but we need to be a bit more patient....it's not as if we are getting stuffed 4 or 5 the REAL problem is out misfiring strikers. If TC was on form we would be having a very different conversation.

If you actually think your last paragraph (The REAL problem) is in anyway accurate and the simple issue

    I simply despair

We could have Harry Kane up front atm and he’d hardly see a chance or decent ball

And the AF bit 🤣 One that was rolled for Johnson Jnr for 4 years

Manning , Johnson CVS v Ferguson pre United    🤔

My default position and the one I’ll always fall back on is I support Bristol City. Not Liam Manning, not Brian Tinnion - Bristol City. Now that does mean that the clubs success happens to people I don’t care for, but I’d rather see the club do well than not.

So for all I think Liam and Brian and Jon need to go for the good of the club, I’d much rather we won the remaining 11 than anything else.

That being said, I totally get the logic. And if you work on the basis we’re going to be patchy at best until seasons end, it’s better to get the defeats done now and what looks the inevitable to happen.

So, I’d much rather we won. But I wouldn’t in some ways be heartbroken if what you say did happen and it was the catalyst for change.

A 7-0 humiliation live on TV

    To Ipswich ?

Couldn’t even consider it for a second , SD , even if we had appointed Barton

Wingers by nature can be very inconsistent, a winger for us wouldn't last half a season with the AG fan base

    What a strange view

    Crap ones wouldn’t no

Half decent winger and the fan base - hmmmm

you clearly don’t have a , or a poor memory of our history over the last few decades , and wingers

Agreed! this season must be putting City fans off wanting promotion. Burnley exceeded 100 points, did the double of us and always looked a different class. Then they have really failed this season with very very few highlights - which shows how tough it is, even with quality management

Sheff Utd were workmanlike and I would say 'bang average' - they won twice the number of games Pearson did, were never good..but it wasnt a good league standard was it? We managed 14th even with Scott and Semenyo so imagine how we would have done under Pearson with our current lot. I recall Blades got more than 30 points more than us and tonight they dont have a  single corner nor a shot on target. Football could get depressing unless you hit the 'Three Cherries' and get lucky like Luton did.. There is only ever one place up for grabs going up from The Championship which means if you get lucky, like Luton, you still have to win the lottery of the P.Os

Yet another post about nothing so you can include various digs at Pearson

You are not only embarrassingly clueless ,but a bore

No, there's plenty of sensible voices out there but I don't believe they phone-in/want to appear on pods. Not for everyone I guess, but when you see some giving pelters to others for being on shows then it seems a bit hypocritical.

It’s not as easy to get on KITR as some may think

I used to ring up regularly and they’d take your details and say they may call back , but wouldnt

One day they put me on and there’s no doubt there’s a period where you are undoubtedly on a mini probation period,

GT certainly recognised and facilitated callers he thought were ok

Not sure what it’s like now Its certainly not as easy as ‘ring up and you are on ‘

Without a Pep to guide him he'd be coached out of existence by an English manager

I certainly think Pep was his perfect mentor, not every players but Foden certainly

In Bellingham And Foden we 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 have two players that already are as good if not better , as any we’ve had in my lifetime

Both good pros and lads too , and importantly, really hungry

Andy Llewellyn once famously said that in all the time he played under Joe Jordan that he never lost his temper once, he said his look was enough.

I suppose starting off by being a scary bloke who also scored in 3 different World Cups & played in Serie A for AC Milan is a bit of a head start, but I doubt losing your temper is ever likely to achieve much.

    🤣

    Isn’t that the case !

I happened to have pretty regular reason to be visiting  the inner sanctum (ie a corridor under the Williams) during the week and players would be fart adding around and messing around after training and you’d suddenly see them scatter out of sight into the changing room or gym , like schoolboys at a boarding school when the headmaster appeared , and you’d then notice Joe had arrived

    Incredible presence / aura

Helped by his natural growl and an accent that meant most of the players caught about every tenth word 🤣

    * And he was as fit if not fitter than any of the players , always led the run and finished first , always in the gym after his ‘work’

Really like Foden but what shocked me when he played against us was how fast he was. Knew he was quick but not as fast as he was that night.

Yes , not only in mind and over those first few yards

I go back to his balance , he’s always totally nimbly balanced ready not only to change direction but to accelerate

Every player that’s ever come into a debate about the greatest ever players had one thing in common - excellent balance ( and something I first look at in every footballer especially ‘prospects’)

    His close control is sublime

And he uses his body brilliantly

    In summary - decent 🤣

I appreciate all of that and it was an observation applicable to the host as much as the guests.

I just think if Steve L is listening to that tonight over on Tracy Island he'll be quietly satisfied that once again the head coach is acting as a lightning rod for criticism.

    Totally agree

Im not sure whether they don’t gauge the mood of the fan base and the hot subjects , or would rather steer away from anything too ‘controversial’

Id strongly suggest the latter , especially since GT went

Its all very beige if they can keep it that way

Funnily enough, I wanted to bring them up on SOTC tonight re City’s way of playing over the years.  At times, especially that team, we did play great football.  But the question didn’t come to me, so didn’t get the chance.

    Probably my favourite team.

    Spooky ,

Absolutely true - as the discussion came to creating in the final third - I nearly texted you to say

    ’Chris’s 89/90 squad didn’t find that an issue’ !!
