  1. Thing is, I cannot think of a single reason why an investor would take them on. The Bury/Bolton thing would surely put investors off investing in lower league football teams.

If you could get a decent Championship team with a good catchment and infrastructure at a reasonable cost (Charlton? Preston?), then maybe. The only ones you would really want (big gates and infrastructure, e.g Wednesday) are probably too pricey (and also not for sale).

Cannot think that an insolvent third level team, doing it’s best to get into the fourth level, with pitiful (and shrinking) gates, crumbling infrastructure it doesn’t even own in a large catchment that is already largely committed to the other local team, would be attractive to anyone other than a very wealthy fan of said club. It is certainly not a business proposition.

    A theory however.

It may be that the AlQ’s bought Rovers on the understanding that the stadium at UWE was a ‘done deal’ and they are hoping to pull the same stunt on some other poor numbskulls.

  2. The irony for me in their ‘world’s best fans’ claims are based on numbers and the claims are so easy to disprove. If I was them, I’d go down the

”easy to get 20,000 in a nice stadium in the Championship, getting 7,000 to go to a terrible stadium each week and seeing poor football is not easy and requires proper dedication” Route.

    Still, each to their own.

My memory is probably wrong, but I thought the first year of the play offs saw a 'to be' relegated side playing a 'to be' promoted side.

I would love to see this revived. Bottom two go down and op two from league below go up. Third bottom in the higher league plays third top in the lower league home and away two-legger for the third spot.

We mustn’t forget that their away support is way better than ours. Ok, the tickets might have been cheaper than we had to pay up there last week BUT  the pay on the day option will have put thousands off as being able to turn up and pay cash at the turnstiles is a real inconvenience. Also, don’t forget they have another game next Saturday and thousands more will be choosing that one instead.

    Plus, balloon festival...

Absolutely no way whatsoever do we loan anyone or anything to those scumbags.

I wouldn't even lend them the cheese off the end of my knob or the steam off my piss.

Plenty of other options for our up and coming youngsters.

    F#ck 'em...

    Clearly a Gashead ??

Not me I'm afraid. A very dear friend died yesterday, one of I have been meeting up with at Rovers for 30 years or so, the way he was in the past week means it really was a happy release. I will admit to being extra pleased that we won and you lost yesterday, he was a big character and going to games will never quite be the same again.

He was very loud, a bit of a pain and very funny. He hated the colour red & everything about City with a passion! I will be doing my bit to be a bit more insulting to you lot in his honour from now on :)

Sorry for your loss Miah. RIP passionate Pirate.

Okay, it's the component parts of Bristol Sport that could be described as such then, in fact I think I have even heard Lansdown describe them as such (albeit things like the basketball) City may or may not be a franchise, and if I were a City fan, I probably wouldn't give two ***** whether they are or not. However, if calling City fans 'Franchise' is known to annoy some City fans, I'm sure you will hear a lot more of it!

Miah, 99% of us on here enjoy the ‘bants’ with you, please do not stop.

Everyone else, Rovers are technically incorrect as BCFC is clearly NOT a franchise, but Rovers are not ACTUALLY Gypsies, sister sha&&ers, inbred etc etc.

If a same town rival finds a name that irritates t’other lot they use it. How to take it’s power away is to appropriate it. ‘Gas’ was originally our insult to them but it has no power because they adopted it. Likewise them calling us ‘the shit’ doesn’t work.

Suggest we get past the ‘but we aren’t actually a franchise’ stage and move swiftly onto the ‘whatever’ stage.

  8. This is a ruse, he’s tryibg to do a Dunceford.

    1) Get PP for a 25,000 seater stadium but dont start building it.

    2) Sell the mem to get some money back

    3) Move the gates (it’s ONLY the gates that are a Memorial you know) to just outside a landfill, sorry, re-purposing plant somewhere

    4) Sell the club as the best “supported outside the EPL, in a huge potential catchment area, with ambitious plans going forward”. Easy.

.It seems to me that at best a company whose only asset has a charge on it is going to face punitive interest rates on any loans it manages to raise.

Well, no. The bankers all agree that Rovers are a brilliant club and that they like them wayy more than da Shit and there will be no need to even pay the loan back, never mind interest, because they are so brill.

Amazing that even when presented with the latest reincarnation of their never ending story, all they can still think about is that it will annoy us.

Simple question, they cannot get 10,000 for home games in League Division 3. If they go to League division 4 (or worse and it looks like they’re going to try) what possible use would 25,000 seats be?

Things not going so well for Hollowhead.

Over the summer is failed to get as many jobs as Rovers have failed to sign players.

His regular column in the EP, reportedly where ‘The former Bristol Rovers and Blackpool manager gives his insight into both camps’ is all about him, him, him.

    Still an enjoyable read though...

Wow, I thought you were exaggerating, but no!

    1) A dig at Darryl Clarke

    2) An ad for Blackpool B&Bs

    3) A paragraph about Rovers

    4) A paragraph pretending to be about Blackpool but actually about him

    5) Hollowhead not getting a job

    6) Hollowhead not getting a job and it’s not fair

    7) Hollowhead not getting a job yet I’m really good

8 ) Hollowhead losing out on  a job to someone who can coach

    What an ego!

  11. Interesting. On gaschat there is a thread about Bury and Bolton. On here, there is a lot of sympathy for those teams’ fans. On Gaschat, the prevailing view is “kick them out of the league”. This will make me less sympathetic when the same thing happens to them.

I know we don't really like the truth getting in the way of a good story and all that, but that Torquay game was an away game and it was in the preliminary round of the Leyland Daf cup :)

Miah, I think it’s more that you couldn’t get 10,000 for a local derby, yet people on Gaschat still say you’d get 30,000 every week if you had a new stadium.

When I was involved in kids football it was always Southampton snapping up the best kids (Brian Tinnion was involved with them).

I always thought it was a crying shame, these kids who were half decent , getting picked up at ridiculously young ages and in many cases their parents encouraging it.

Let them play with their mates, if they really are good enough the clubs will get them when it matters.

We used to live in Southport and my daughter grew up with a group that included Jack Rodwell. He had been signed to Everton at a very early age. He wasn’t allowed to play for the school football team and was exempted from a lot of games lesson activities. Consequently, never experienced the joys of a kickabout with his mates.
