Wycombe being trodden on because they're not one of the big boys.  Standard EFL behaviour -  disgraceful.

I reckon they should "sell" their ground to themselves and see what the EFL does.

Who is the bigger disgrace - Derby or the EFL?

A close run thing. I have no doubt that the EFL under Harvey positively encouraged favoured clubs to be reckless.

It remains to be seen if Parry is made of sterner stuff but I'm not holding my breath.

So why haven’t derby been sanctioned at all yet? Didn’t they fail to pay their players at one point this season? Should have been an instant points deduction. Could derby still gain a points deduction at all and still get relegated?

Not likely, Wayne Rooney is their manager after all, which would be grounds for giving them a points addition surely?

Yes, that was a ludicrous appointment.

He was a back office boy who tried to manage like you play Championship Manager: buy young players who, fingers crossed, will increase in value, set the team formation and style of play and then simply sit back and watch.

Great in theory on the whiteboard.

Doesn't work in the real world.

I think they will take another couple of seasons to undo the damage he did to their squad with his acquisitions.

The mighty Tisdale's biggest career mistake was accepting that job without properly assessing the squad first:

"Why don't you have any strikers?" would have been a very sensible question to ask at interview and would have saved him from taking on an impossible job.

According to the Totally Football League Show there was a bust up because Tisdale didn't have the final say on recruitment (sound familiar?).

Allegedly he wanted to sign Stockley from Preston but was overruled.

Some possible good news on the horizon, hopefully anyway @Davefevs @Hxj @downendcity @chinapig @Coppello

Well overdue this. Gibson and Lansdown maybe can drive change here? Embargo or Points deduction best bet? Interested to know thoughts of @AnotherDerbyFan with respect to this too- I think that Good Governance in these scenarios does require stringent measures.

Maybe Transfer Embargo to begin with, escalating to a points deduction over time. Assume this means publish to Companies House or on website- EFL surely have some kind of idea or they should both be under a rolling Embargo and maybe more- if they don't submit to the EFL then maybe even suspend membership.

Well maybe not the last bit but the EFL or more likely the clubs, need to up the ante with this issue.

As usual I will decline to hold my breath waiting for the EFL to do something about this. Given that sanctions for late accounts should have been in place from the outset.

Your gas mates are telling fibs again. Cardiff beat them. But they did play Cardiff off the pitch so they say.......which was a big confidence booster going into today!!

Yes, I know, I was kind of satirising their take on it. They seemed to think it was some kind of 'moral draw '.

Though the two mates I know to be Gasheads haven't talked about them for years. Can't think why.

  7. Interesting piece just published by The Guardian, covering Wigan and Wednesday:

    https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/aug/16/wigans-former-owner-kay-asked-about-administration-before-his-takeover

We already know about Wigan's former owner but quite how Wednesday officials backdating signatures on legal documents doesn't merit more severe punishment is beyond me.

The EFL remains incompetent and weak it seems.

    THIS could be interesting.

    https://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/football/up-nine-championship-clubs-lend-18713049

Seems up to NINE Championship clubs are backing Charlton on the points deduction being in the wrong season for Sheffield Wednesday.

    @Davefevs @chinapig @downendcity @Hxj

I would also ask significantly why this was NOT the case or seemed not to have been the case when Gibson wanted an investigation there and then into Aston Villa, Derby and Sheffield Wednesday's finances in 2019.

This is what we have needed since at least January 2019 though when it became clear that Aston Villa were likely to blaze past FFP. We need the clubs to act as one here!

Because Ashton wanted a role at the EFL so didn't want to upset big clubs perhaps?

As a club that plays by the rules we have been disappointingly unwilling to put our head above the parapet.

Reading on asschat some of the comments on the “Ashton Gate revised design plans” thread, things like they would rather be in their position than ours, calling us plastic and can’t wait for Steve Lansdown to withdraw his support and leave us in trouble.

    Jealous or what

They have been saying that about Steve for years, it's just a desperate hope, in the absence of any hope for their own club.

The question they should ask is: In 5 years time who is more likely to still be in place, Steve or Wally? Indeed, which club is more likely to still exist?

Another point worth making/asking is do Championship sides actually want to play in the PL?

Currently, the gulf is so great that most teams end up coming straight back down.

Take Bournemouth for example.  Their turnover last season was more than twice that of Villa's - This being achieved on gates of less than 12,000.  This has been the case for the past 3 seasons so times that wealth by 3.  Even with a summer spend of way over £100,000,000 (by Villa), Bournemouth are still above Villa in the league.

I would imagine that most of you hold high hopes of gaining promotion via the play offs this season?  The overwhelming chances are that should you achieve this, you would go back down the following season, probably finishing bottom.  Where's the fun in that?  It is certainly short lived.  All hail the saving grace though - You gained promotion whilst not losing more than £13,000,000 per season.

My feeling is that instead of beating this tireless FFP drum constantly, Championship clubs ought to be focusing on ways of giving their sides a fighting chance should promotion be achieved.

I read (or possibly heard on one of the many football podcasts I listen to!) recently that TV money provides 89% of Bournemouth's income. They could be in big trouble if they are relegated.

I liked this response. At least one of them knows they are being fobbed off.

I have lots of questions in my head & behind the scenes I am thinking of more, but to speak publicly about my questions would give others a commercial advantage. Other questions I have are subject to confidentiality & I have to move a question on before I can think of a new one.

That moment you describe there was reality crashing through the reinforced concrete walls of lies, certainty and delusion. Decades of it. Momentarily, a (small) crowd of poorly dressed people collectively see themselves for what they really are. There is no hiding place. No delusion to escape to and bask in. At that eerie, silent moment, none of the usual lies, the bollocks, the bullshit and delusion work anymore  - all that was swept away, leaving only truth and reality. This is what we are: non-league shite.

    Positively poetically put!

Sadly, or hilariously, the delusion has returned in an even more virulent form than before. In evidence, I offer the fact that they believe what Wael tells them and that, despite the chasm between the clubs in every respect, they really think they are coming for us.
